Those are for mounting GPS etc. They are called "Snaggletooth" mounts after it's inventor. Several of us have them on our 1st gens! Skydoc_17 has some light up aircraft lights in his "holes..."

Well then a valve adjustment won't hurt it for sure, but sounds like it's nothing that has to be done immediately from what you describe... Yes, the carb boots can eventually cause vacuum loss. They are not that costly to replace. Pay attention to the mating surface on the heads, they will probably need a good cleaning up.

BTW unless it is hard starting, running rough, maybe backfiring it probably doesn't really need a valve adjustment. You can but it probably won't make a noticeable difference if it is already running right...

OK thanks! Our anniversary falls in the middle of the cruise and they were made aware of it by the AAA travel agent! Yes we will be arriving in Kahului at 8:00 AM and doesn't leave until 6:00 PM Monday. I'll check it out!
