  1. Hmmmm, not the first time an ignition switch has failed on a 2nd Gen!! Unfortunately, a common problem well documented on this site!
  2. Yup!! MK2 rears are 4 piston calipers, same as the MK2 fronts... PS you can swap MK1 rear to MK2 rear IF you use the appropriate rear caliper bracket, AND the appropriate mounting spindle on the swing arm!
  3. OK a couple of responses were more geared at the 2nd Gen, like in the picture. To make sure your bike is level, put it up on the center stand, something 2nd gen owners can't do because stock has no center stand. By your edit I assume you found the sight glass! Well, as far as being 3/4 up, chances are the worst thing is the engine will blow the excess oil out usually through the breather into the air cleaner box. Rarely, it could cause a gasket to leak due to excessive crankcase pressure. 3/4 is not as bad as waaaay overfilled...
  4. For the VMax heads you don't need anything more than with the Venture heads... EDIT: Oh, never mind, figured out you meant you couldn't find a set of VMax heads! Duh!
  5. What Orlin said!!! Folks, as an event planner myself I can not express enough just how important it is to sign up on the calendar!!! Even if you're not sure whether or not you want to come you can always check the "MAYBE" box, and if something comes up later you can CHANGE it to the YES box or the NO box!! This has been a public service announcement brought to you by the Joint Commission of Venturerider Event Planners...
  6. Woo Hoo!!!!!
  7. YAH!! It's almost 8:00 and STILL no picture...
  8. Great!! Now that it's inspected, why not plan on coming over to this side of the state and attend the WNY NE Regional Rally the last week in August??
  9. Why yes RR, that is also a good reason to come! I'm not done with this thread, there are many more reasons to come that I will be listing, as well as possibly comments from others as why to come!!!
  10. See what ya get for getting rid of a perfectly good bike?!!?
  11. First of all, besides it being a Super Great time, there is NO Registration fee!! All you have to do is sign up on the calendar! Secondly, absolutely NO charge for camping!! Plenty of nicely maintained grass to camp on, and indoor bathroom (Washroom for you Canucks) facilities, both men and women's room. There are two modest motels within walking distance from the event grounds! There are three eating establishments very close by, one being practically next door to the event grounds! Several other places to eat well within a mile radius! Parts, accessories, and service (if needed) for your Yamaha as well as Spyders and several other brands across the street from the event grounds! Can't say enough about the WONDERFUL people at Pioneer Motorsports, our sponsors! This is the only Venturerider event that I know of that has a live band!! Saturday evening's concert is also free, but we may or may not have to pass the hat for voluntary (not mandatory) contributions to help pay for the band, depending on how well the raffles and 50/50's go. Last year we did NOT have to pass the hat! Plenty of fun games, raffles, and events!!! More to follow, here's a link to the official thread! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?115244-WNY-North-East-Regional-Rally-Aug-24-Aug-28!!! Please Please PLEASE sign up on the calendar and PLAN on attending this year's great event!!!
  12. ...also it might produce too large of a volume of air per second making it possible to over-inflate the front shocks and blow out a seal. Probably OK for rear shock.
  13. Yup! You're a good guy Mike and hate to see you go!
  14. Hmmm, I remember there being a thread about paint codes several years ago, try doing a search using "Paint codes"
  15. Try Ebay, they come up all the time...
  16. They are starting to become a little rare, but as you found, are still out there! Good thing all years are the same!! The usual issue with them is either they will not adjust any more, or they are loose and won't stay in adjustment...
  17. Hmmmm! You unfortunately have to have the motor running to test the stator dynamically! So now I'm a little confused here, you say you are reading 12.9 volts, is this with the bike running?? If so, you need to disconnect the connector at the voltage regulator and read the AC voltage across all 3 combinations of the white wires at both idle and rev'ed up past 4000 RPM. At idle you should see around 15 volts AC an all 3 combinations, and around 70 - 90 volts AC (voltage increases with RPM's) at higher RPM's. All 3 combinations (A and B, A and C, and B and C) should be very close to each other. if one set (or more) is extremely different, your stator is toast! If you have good readings from the stator, then I would suspect the Regulator/Rectifier is bad, but some regulators may regulate at a lower voltage, I have one that works but regulates around 13.0 to 13.1 volts. Out of spec but it still regulates! Now, is this 12.9 volts at idle, or at higher RPM?? You will have a lower voltage output at idle than at RPM's...
  18. Ahhhh!! Does it have a stripe on it?? It may be for the battery acid level sensor, and the PO long since removed the sensor itself when replacing to a newer battery, and did the resistor mod to keep the battery light off... Sorry, haven't looked at my 1st gen in several years, just taking a stab in the dark!
  19. Ya know, MY riding days are numbered too!! Hopefully I will be riding for a couple more years yet but who knows what tomorrow holds. I pretty much plan on staying a member here regardless as this site is FAMILY and I value each and every member here and have made many friends for life!!
  20. Yah!! Pretty much an unheard of problem!! Sewing machine oil might be a little better than WD40 if you are looking for something a little thicker and more permanent than WD40 but it works! Worst case senerio find a motorcycle boneyard closer to you for a used one. As stated, this is not something that commonly fails so you should be good with a used one! Not the kind of replacement job I would like to do on the road but hey, whatever...
  21. What Gary said!! The screws that hold the mechanism have a tendency to loosen...
  22. Soooo, did you rebuild the forks while they were off??? Some people are satisfied with the Sonic brand of springs just as much as the Progressive brand on 2nd gens...
