Maybe they'll come out with a tour pack for it in a year or so. Nothing a $1000-$1500 can't take care of. If Beemer is doing their homework and going to offer lots of accessories ( Chrome ) they might have a hit. The bags look a little shallow !? But what's with those massive mufflers, I've seen smaller pipes on semis.

I don't know if anybody has posted this yet. BMW has built their bagger from their concept bike from about a year ago, built by Roland Sands. Any takers ? I don't see a price. They're calling it feet forward design, but the pegs are to far back for my over grown legs! http://www.bmwblog.com/2016/10/10/bmw-k-1600-b-makes-world-premiere-today/

Seat option RSV to sit back further
mabeline replied to Lug Nut's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
For myself I like the Russell day long. My seat wasn't custom made for me and I might like it even more if it were. They have you take a pic with you on the bike, so you may be able to get them to customize it for you. Do suffer from over grown syndrome like me ? I'm 6' 6" -
Just got back from a 900 km (450mile) ride with my daughter, and a friend and his son. For the locals here, went from Stettler to Nordegg to Sask. River Crossing then on to Lake Louise, Banff then Cochrane and back to Stettler. My butts numb!! But a fantastic day

I did more less the same as Eck. Except I hid the opener under the ignition cover. I think someone on here said they drilled a tiny hole in the cover and put in a tiny switch like Eck's.

Clutch lever doesn't fully return
mabeline replied to Stache's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had the same problem last year. The lever would stay in just far enough so the resume on the cruise wouldn't work. -
I tried the window tint but it didn't work out very well. Apparently window tint only stretches one direct. With the concave shape I couldn't make it work. I was told maybe vinyl might work better. Maybe someone with more experience or more patients might have more luck. Did you use any special paint to do the lowers?
-
I just curled it over the back side about a 1/4 of the way. That painted plastic isn't to forgiving if you heat it much or to many times. The paint tends to crack and split.

Thanks can't take total credit for the gauges thou. This was an excellent thread on installing gauges. Somewhere in the 21 pages of the thread I think there's a template for making your own. I know that's what I used. chttp://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?32675-removed-cassette-added-gauges-done&highlight=gaugesredit Sorry I tried to copy and paste the thread so you could just click on it. Guess I'm not quite puter savvy enough.

A few months ago I got a bunch of broken pieces back from my local dealer. Here's what I made from them. In pic "1" I started off with this. It looked OK but it was way to heavy looking. I felt like I was going to be like Arte Johnson with his tri-cycle on Laugh-in. In pic 2 this is what I came up with. A bunch smaller and just enough room to put the garage door opener button. In pic 3 I color matched the dash behind the guages and made a strip under the dash to hold the thermometer and a few other ideas for later maybe. In pic 4 I made a tach holder for the little tach we were buying here a bunch of years ago. I think it was from Dingy?? I don't use the tach to often but it's kinda neat to have once in a while. It still has the original battery so it's not too hard on batteries. In pic 5 It's just a backed up view of my goofing around. In pic 6 I borrowed an idea from Jonas when he had everybody drooling over his pics a few months ago.

I've got a Russel Day Long on my 08 and really like it. It pretty much tripled my saddle time before I start to squirm. Myself, I'm partial to white walls. Gives the scoot an old school look!

Dunlop has the D404 in wide white wall for front and rear i run an Avon Cobra A71 , 130 wide white wall on the front and an Avon Venom AM42 black wall on the rear
-
Did you possibly have a bit of a cross wind?
-
I was told once ( possibly on here )that Avon doesn't mark their tires because they're balanced from factory. I put on a tire a couple years ago. Removed the old weights and did a static balance. Turned out the weights went back to the same place the old weights were. It appears my wheel is out of balance by about an ounce.

Thanks for the comments. I'll take a few more pics when I'm done if it looks it should be there. I'm going to steal a couple of ideas from Jonas' Red Baron too after I saw his pics.
-
Well I did a little more playin around with the broken pieces and came up with this. Got some cleaning and filing up to do, but not bad if I say so myself.

Thanks, can't take credit for the gauges thou. It was in the removed cassette and added gauges thread. I'm going to try to put a color match piece in there next. Not a lot of flat pieces on the inner fairing. If I would have made the radio control piece a 1/4" longer, I could have put my thermometer in there.
-
No not stuck, just some ideas I came up with to use some of the old parts. I made the piece over the handle bar clamp from the top of the inner fairing. I might mount some toggle switches later.
-
The local dealer here in Stettler fixed my bike after my wreck about four years ago. I saw him the other day and he said he was cleaning up the shop. He was wondering if I wanted the old parts, the insurance didn't ask for them. I said sure, if I cant do anything with them I'll take them to the dump for you. Here's a couple of things I did with the old dash. I like the way it turned out over the handle bars. The piece over the radio controls I'm not to crazy about. The paint cracked when I heated and bent it. I'm still working on it. Might box the end and mount some toggle switches. Or I may cut it down to the same length as the controls. (edit: spelling correction only)

2015 riding season, what did you do for milage this year?
mabeline replied to Brake Pad's topic in Watering Hole
I'm sitting at about 13000 kms (8000miles) for the year. That's about average for me per year. Just rolled over 100,000 kms this yr on my 08, got her new in May 2008. Man! Does time fly. -
I'm really sorry I missed it this year. I had a really great time, and met a whole bunch of fantastic folks last year. Work or I should say lack of kept me from going.
-
Toss a VMax 1700 in there (no watering down, full hp), take some styling cues from the 83-91 bikes (just cues, not a rehash, kinda like what Ford/Chevy did with the mustang/camaro), give it some nice sticky (but decent lasting) radials, top grade adjustable suspension, some decent comvieninces like heated grips Bluetooth integration and such, make it so it looks good with and without the top trunk and set it loose on the public. I totally agree, an excellent platform to work with. I'm no engineer, so I don't know what kind of retooling would be needed to make it work. So with that being said, and it's been said a hundred times before. Why doesn't Yamy fix what they have, ABS, fuel injection, and few more up grades. Sales must have been fairly good in the first 10 years or Yamaha would have trashed it early. They don't need to reinvent the mouse trap! Harley has had a beautiful bike for many years, they just keep tweeting to make it modern. They aren't fixing what ain't broke. Same thing with the Gold Wing. Then again I don't make the big bucks the CEO's and CFO's make in these big corporations, And the decisions they make may not be what I like or make since, but they have their reasons.
-
Main reason being, the major trend in the touring market being the huge draw to much lower powered, belt drive V twin motors. I have to agree with that statement, somewhat. BUT !! Yamaha built a really good touring bike in the 80's that went after the Gold Wing. I don't know why exactly it didn't become the household name that the wing did. It handled better, it looked better in my eyes. ( I had an 83 and an 86). Isn't that what BMW is doing with the GTL and the RT, and Triumph with the Trophy? In IMHO I think that's what Yamaha should use the V-max motor for. Build a touring bike that goes after the Gold Wing. And with a few tweeks Yamaha could make a cruiser to go with it ,like BMW's concept bike!!

Has anybody tried : Leg Up Landing Gear. Might be a good alternative if you still love the twisties, but have trouble with parking lot speeds! The price is a lot less too. $3500
