  1. I had the trunk (in Harley-Speak "tour pack") off of my '86 for some R&R and kinda liked the look, just didn't like the loss of cargo space! I called it my YamaGlide Ultra. You could probably find a fender for it on-line or at Northern Tool or Tractor Supply if you have either near you.
  2. It all depends, as others have said. Of course it wouldn't be a straight trade! How much cash do you have to put with your RSTD to get the '86?
  3. Better keep Eck away from that Alabama Fire Water until after he gets the carbs synced, he might think he's working on a gOld Wing and slow even a 2nd gen down!!!
  4. Their website is kind of poor in regards to finding them. Without GoogleMaps one would have a hard time. They should put a map with recognizable land marks/area!
  5. Great!! Look forward to seeing you again. I hope you can make Vogel!
  6. That is a really easy fix, David. If you can get to the 5th gear light, all you need to do is to pull it out and clean the connector really well. Next, clean the bulb socket really well , then remount the light.................. ...................... in a 1st Gen!!! After all, look where you posted .
  7. I ordered mine last week and they came Sat, really quick shipping. I had the bike apart for some other stuff so I put them on yesterday. I used a round file to enlarge the hole for the wires and a flat file to make it fit fush. I had the left side faring off, but did the right side thru' turn signal hole. I used bullet connectors for all the connections. Not quite as convenient, but still dis-connectable. I was wiring running lights into the lower "chin" so I ran that wire down with a female bullet connector in the middle and lower end of the wire. Turn signal wire I ran to the reflector. I put a ground for both lights on a spade connector under the lower radiator bolt. It looks like you side cover is smaller than stock.
  8. If your (next) phone is an Android (and heaven forbid you should buy an Apple phone! ) you should look at downloading "Where's My Droid" and/or "Lookout Security". They can both help you find your phone with a computer and gps.
  9. It's not really too tough...........the 2nd time you do it! Just kidding, it's really pretty easy once you know how to get to it, and you know that now.
  10. If you still have things apart, this would be a good time to dry out the desiccant for the class system. It is in that silver canister under the trunk. Disconnect the air and bracket. As I recall there is a spring clip in the top, push in on the center and you can remove it. Pour the desiccant into a bowl and microwave it, I do it in 30 second increments. It will turn from pink to blue or visa versa. Keep microwaving until it is a uniform color. Yamamomma recomends replacing the canister every couple of years, but this works just fine and will remove the moister associated with compressing air.
  11. I was thinking the side markers were amber! Had to go look at the bike! NEVERMIND!
  12. Yeah, Patti, I've already posted (and talked to Lewis) that I'll be there! Looking forward to seeing you and "DAD"!
  13. Hmmmmmm.............."an old greybeard biker was returning from a trip to Mexico" I think I'm seeing a pattern here......
  14. Good lookin' "car" you've got there , Mike!
  15. I see that you used red LEDs on the rear light mod, Vito, which I understand is the best color to use behind a red lens. What color did you use for the side lights?
  16. Hey, Skid, I told Bubba what you said and he got ALL upset ; started yelling at me and everything! Until I told him you said cross county not cross-dressing! Sometimes that boy just ain't right.
  17. . Nah, Tom. That's just tooooooo easy!
  18. Darn! Lewis is retiring and I'm making a career change! (That was written by the Dept of Redundancy Dept!) Oh well, at least I'm not an old fart like him!!! I'm still with FedEx, but last Monday I moved from the Alpharetta station to the Atlanta airport ramp station to move into the 18 wheelers. I won't be going over the road, but rather driving the containerized freight out to the local FedEx stations and dropping/pulling trailers at customer locations. I'll be a swing driver, so I will be running all the different routes. One upside is, instead of climbing in and out of a delivery truck 60/80 times a day it will be 8/10 times a day. A lot easier on the knees! For the next couple of weeks I will be riding the different routes, then 40 hrs practice with a trainer b4 going to Memphis for 3 weeks of tractor-trailer school. School starts Oct 6th and, as I say, I will be there for 3 weeks so I will be looking for some riding/eating friends on the weekends! I'll do a M&E post when we get closer, but if you live in that area, keep me in mind. Oh yeah, after 6 years as a Tues - Sat employee I had the option to go Mon- Fri! Now I can start making more of the Saturday M&Es!
  19. I have to be in Memphis for training starting the week of the 5th, so I might as well start it out at St. Jude's! I've always had to work in the past so I'm really looking forward to this.
  20. It turns out that I have to be in Memphis for training the week of the 5th so it's perfect timing!
  21. I would love to join you dude! But I heard that the plane's owner's family is going to contest the will! ( And Bubba knows them personally.)
  22. So, what was the cost? I took the MSF Advanced Rider Course, and found it to be $100 well spent.
