XL...XR... You must be talking about the legendary Hondas. I've owned both. Used to ride the heck out of my XL500, on the road and off. Same with my old XL350....my first street legal bike. Started riding the Yammy TTs for hill climbing. I liked the feel of the Honda's a little better, but the Yammys had stronger clutches and chugged just a tad better. I've an old TT600 that I fire up and run through the woods every once in a while, but I'll never be able to ride it to it's potential again...too scared of getting hurt.

Wife keeps telling me to go ahead and find a Spider. I've been holding off...got too many scoots already, but I do understand her reasoning. I'd feel safer on 3 wheels, especially with her on the back. I'm attributing it to getting old.

Yup...I've tried mulching, but you gotta understand that I'm talking a LOT of leaves here. I can run the mower over them and bag if I do it daily, but miss a day, or if it rains, I'm done. The mower can't handle it. The blower works pretty well, and I can miss a day, but if there's a few days of rain in a row, it gets tough. Last Fall was probably the easiest I've had as it was a dry Fall. I'll blow them until the pile's 2 + ft high, then I have to either drag them off with a tarp or plow them into the woods with my 4 wheeler with a snowplow on it. Like I said, I'm only dealing with an acre or so, plus 700' of driveway that I have to clear daily before the leaves get smashed into the gravel. My yard and drive are COMPLETELY surrounded by woods. 15 wooded acres and the house is just about in the middle of it.

Contacted the seller this morning and told him I'd stop by this afternoon. He lives a little over an hour away. He texted me a couple of hours later that it'd been sold for $550. Dunno if I'm happy or sad. Could have been nice, but one more thing to store and maintain. I guess I'll just stick to the leaf blowers...at least for now.

Sorry for your loss. It's hard to think of it this way, but he truly IS in a better place, and you'll get to see him again.

Been thinking about picking one of these up for a while now, but didn't want to spend the $$$. I found a pretty fair deal on one, but before I pull the trigger, I wanted to see if any of my Venturerider friends have had any experience with them. I live on 15 wooded acres with only about an acre around the house cleared, and with 700' of driveway, leaves are a real problem every Fall. I've been kinda handling it with a Stihl backpack blower, but it's an all out effort for a month or so every Fall. Usually, when the leaves get piled too high to blow anymore, I plow them into the woods with the 4 wheeler. It gets that bad... Anyhoo, any input from anyone who's used one of these would be appreciated.

I skipped over most of it and just watched the results. It swelled up his arm / wrist / hand pretty good. He lets himself get stung / bit by all kind of nasty bugs. Like the title says....What a dumba$$

A simple handful of bolts in the tank, shake it some to knock off the stalagtites,, a quick rinse with vinager and rinse with water, I did the nuts and bolts thing....shakie, shakie, shakie.....plugged the outlet and put 4 gallons of white vinegar in it and now I'll give it a week, then off to the paint shop. I really didn't get anything more than dust out of it. No rust flakes or chunks. It really isn't bad at all.

One of the other bikes in my stable...rarely gets ridden...is my 85 Honda Nighthawk CB700sc. She hasn't been out for a couple of years now and I'm figuring that I'd better go over her soon or she'll start having bigger problems. About 6 or 7 years ago I'd dropped her on the trailer, severely damaging the tank as it slammed against the angle iron railing. So...I replaced the tank with a used one that had a leak. I silver soldered over the leak(s), then filled, sanded and coated the inside of the tank with Kreme. It was good for a few years, then started leaking again, and that's when she last was on the road. I must've done something wrong for it to leak again, but I remember when I did it that I wasn't very comfortable with where the fuel petcock and strainer that goes into the tank were. I had to plug the threaded fitting when I used the Kreme, and I didn't feel I had very good adhesion at that point, as I removed some of the coating when I took the plug out, right around the edges of the threaded port. I figured gas probably got between the coating and the metal and eventually ruined the coating....??? Anyhoo I found a decent replacement tank with nearly no rust inside, and I'm going to have it painted and have the oem decal put on then clear-coated. Considering that the inside of the tank is in pretty good shape, with no signs of rust / leaks where these tanks usually go bad, I'm thinking that it'd be best to go ahead and paint without trying to Kreme. If I'd had better experience with the stuff I'd probably just go ahead and do it,.,...but I'm thinking not. Opinions?

Just found out that I'll likely be going back to work on Monday. I can't say that I'm excited about the prospect. Haven't had more than 2 weeks off at a time for over 30 years and I'll tell ya...it was pretty nice. Oh well....gotta get back to the rat race and start rebuilding this retirement fund. If this is what retirement will be like....I'm gonna LOVE it....can't wait...but will have to wait at least another 5 years....maybe more.

At the time, I was concerned that flipping the ring gear would weaken the transaxle, which was going to have to endure the increased HP from the Corvair motor. I seem to remember seeing a number of 170hp listed with the cam setup I put into it. So, I replaced the cam with a reversed rotation cam, I believe I had to flip all the rods and change the distributor gear. Really wasn't that hard to do. Confused the heck outta the guy who did the tuning. That was my last rail buggy and I felt that setup was too much power and weight to be used off road, at least for what I was doing. If I ever have a buggy again, it'll be a stock VW setup. Simple and relatively trouble free. Like a big lawn mower. I'm gonna have to see if I can find some pics of that old buggy. It did sound mean though.

Never had a Corvaire, but I did have a Corvaire powered rail buggy. Had to reverse rotation on that motor, but it was a solid motor. The only issue I had was the spider intake would frost on cool days and make it run poorly. The crazy belt setup was never an issue. The extra weight of the motor kept breaking the stock VW trailing arms though.

Friends and I have Had a tradition for nearly 40 years now of going up to the cabin every Spring to do the stuff that brainless adolescents do for fun. That adolescent mindset hasn't changed much over those years, except that now I like to try to get some work done while we're there. Went up with the buddies last Wednesday and came home Sunday night. My older brother showed up Friday to help out. We did get a lot done, and still had time for some adult beverages and spirited debate around the campfire. Put a new roof on the shed....replaced the air conditioning......installed a new cooking grate I built over the fire pit. My brother Lenny did a bit of fishing in the creek out back, brought 'em back and cooked them up immediately for a nice lunch. Nothin' better than fish straight out of the stream. Next trip up for me will be either with wife and friends, or with the guys on the cycles. Depends on how all this corona bullcrap plays out. Anyhoo, ...had a fun, productive trip.

Great video. I never really thought about it much, but I never really thought of Canada as a different country.....Our commonality of geography, culture and (mostly) language make it seem like more than just our neighbor to the North. Glad to have such a fantastic neighbor.

My $1200 ended up being $684. My unemployment is not quite half of my normal income. I've heard about the extra $600 weekly, but haven't seen any of that yet. Not sure if I ever will. Having said that, I have a sugar mama (wife) who has been working her a$$ off in one of the grocery stores she typically serves. She's corporate, but they put out an "All hands on deck" call because of the heavy sales at the stores. I'm fortunate that this will not quickly hurt me financially, but I'm sure my pension has taken a significant hit and I'm getting close enough to retirement that it may not have time to recover completely. Plus....if I'm off for an extended period, I'm not adding to my retirement fund and stand the risk of losing health benefits. So far, I'm loving this layoff thing. Last time I was laid off was 1988. But if it lasts too long, it will become an issue for me, and potentially could put an end to the company I work for. I'm hoping for the best, but am preparing myself for the possibility of having to work elsewhere. Shouldn't be too much of a problem....I've a pretty good rep, so someone will pick me up, but I really don't want to go through the change. Been at the same company for 22 years now and I'm an old dog that doesn't want to learn any new tricks. I'm pretty settled here, and I like the folks that I work for and they like me and the kind of seniority I have offers perks that I'll lose if I go elsewhere.

I'm insured through Progressive....as of now, they're giving us back JACK CRAP....Guess they need the $$$ for all those commercials.

You'll notice that on a really hot day, after the bike's hot, it'll sound like it's not going to start....barely turns over then fires....I've never much believed in putting heavier cables in, but just about the time I bought my second gen, I had bought a starter off an old V-Max....still need to install it. You'll probably end up having issues here and there, but you've found the right forum to help deal with them as you find them. You may want to upgrade at least the clutch springs....check / replace carb diaphrams.....change brake and clutch fluid.....maybe replace front shock seals / springs.... Once you give one of these old gems a good going over, they'll give you years and years of reliable service, (with a little love required from time to time)... Welcome to the forum

Your writing style doesn't lend itself to easy comprehension of your points....especially for a dolt like me. Anyhoo. My takeaway is that I'm a conspiracy theorist. That may be somewhat true, and I'd take it as a badge of honor, as it requires free thought, logical thinking, and (arguably) a healthy distrust of those in power. I don't believe this situation is an actual conspiracy as much as a gentle nudging of a willing and gullible populace. Certainly the virus is real, but my contention is simply that it is unworthy of a response requiring the shutdown of a booming economy. The damage done by that will be real, and holds the potential to be more damaging, even from a health perspective, than the virus itself. The people who are least able to rebound will be on the bottom end of the economic class. The benefits of our Capitalist economy have lifted countless people across the globe..not just here, and when that system suffers, the benefits world wide will suffer as well, but it won't be as evident worldwide as it will be here. What it will do is create a situation where people will clamor to the gubment to save them.....more gubment....less freedoms. Remember: A gubment big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take everything you have. From what I can glean from your points, you rely on this very system to form your opinions. Good for you. You're mainstream, whereas I'm the denier, which makes me the nut. Been seeing bits and pieces on the news of people pushing back on the "social distancing". They're only going to put up with this bovine excrement for so long. As for me ....this has been frickin' great. I'm getting so much done at home that I'd feared I'd never be able to do. Money's not looking like it's going to be an issue. I do need to get back to my regular job though....I need the break...Lost 10 pounds in the last 2 weeks.
