  1. Check out the modification that Gary (Dingy) did to his kickstand. I did the mod and it worked great, I never have to worry about it again. If you need a hardened nut and bolt, I have a couple left and can send you one. PM me your address if you want to do the conversion. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=48342 Jim
  2. You can buy Yamabond 4 on Amazon............about $13.00 a tube. Didn't check fleabay, but should find it there, also. Jim
  3. My o-ring on my bike always leaks in the Spring when I first start up the engine. After two heating and cooling cycles, it always sets up and then never leaks again. It has been doing this for three years now. Only three or four small drips. BTW, the knob should be turned as shown in the above photo. The word "off" should be in the 2 o'clock position for normal running and "on" in that position is to bypass the thermostat and for draining the system of coolant. I'm not sure if you are aware of this, hence this note. Jim
  4. If you are talking about the "drain" on the bottom of the radiator, that is not a drain but a bypass valve. It is a black plastic knob. The drain plug is on the bottom of the water pump which is located on the right side of the engine. I have an extra o-ring repair kit for the bypass valve if you want it. PM me for my address. Jim
  5. Welcome to the best Forum on the Internet. I live in Rochester and have an 89 VR and would be happy to help or answer any questions. Pay the $12 to become a member. It is the best money you will ever spend on this beautiful bike. It is perfect for long distance travel. My phone number is in my Profile. Call if you have any questions. One of the members here sells a stainless line kit with all necessary parts. It makes a great difference in the braking. There is also a delinking kit available for the brakes. See member "Skydoc_17" for parts. IIRC the R1/R6 are a direct swap, but I'm not sure. Some of the other members know more than I. Also do a search for "R1/R6 calipers" on this forum. Jim
  6. Dave: I am not an IBMC member but will camp at Lake Snowden / Pickerington. Middle to late July will work for me as I am planning on camping in Ontario, Canada with the Ontario gang in early July (see Calendar). In any event will see you in Oberlin for MD at Freebirds. Jim
  7. CLASS = Computer Leveling Air Suspension System. System only works with key in ACC position. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?114508-Air-ride&highlight=class. for more info. See also: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?114778-Class-Air-Pressure&highlight=class
  8. Earl: Jeff B (Flynfool) lives north of there. About 30 - 40 miles if I remember right. Of course, if you let him store it for you, you might not get it back. He might keep it in his shop. Jim
  9. Happy Anniversary, Ben and Marita! Hope you have many more years together.
  10. Here are two videos of a seafoam test. Interesting results. He also did a test using Lucas cleaner and Techron cleaner, but I have not reviewed them yet. Jim
  11. You might try to super glue the key together and pull the broken piece out. Just don't use too much otherwise it will glue the tumblers together. As mentioned above, epoxy will work, and a bulb or hair dryer for heat will accelerate the cure time to less than 5 minutes.
  12. Yes, I know, but I am there for the views, so, I will avoid that area.
  13. Bob: I am riding thru Letchworth Sate Park on Monday with two other riders to see the foliage. Which way are you going? Jim
  14. Thanks Dave, for a great weekend! Rode some fantastic roads and saw awesome scenery. Great friends, great roads, and great food. Looking forward to next year. I really liked the spectators along the parade route you arranged for us. That was awesome! Really enjoyed waving to the kids. It was great to see old friends. Jim
  15. Yep! I will be there and am bringing a friend along that has done a lot of camping on his Vstrom. I plan on being there on Thursday afternoon. Jim
  16. I went on ebay and searched for "Yamaha Venture right hand controls"....and found several used sets of controls. Not sure about the condition of them, but might work for you. Not sure where to find a new switch. Jim
  17. Ooops, two minutes late...........story of my life...A dollar short and a day late! LOL
  18. The battery indicator light is indicating the electrolyte level is low, as stated above. If the sensor is missing , there is a work around for AGM type batteries that do not use a probe. Go to this link below and read thread #2 and click on the link indicated. It will explain how to take care of the problem. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?76880-about-battery&highlight=battery+probe Jim
  19. Orlin....Late August for the WI rally will be a problem for the members that attend the Western New York Mini Rally. It is usually held in middle to late August. I never miss the WNY Rally and really look forward to it every year because it is always a great time, so, the Rally in WI would not work for me. Also, as mentioned in a previous comment, families with children may not be able to attend due to school starting in late August. Jim
  20. Canaan Valley looks like it has a nice Hotel -Lodge but concerned about having a shooting range on premises, not sure I want to listen to shotguns all day long. Jim
  21. With all those poles, it will take two days to set up. Jim
  22. OK Joe, sounds good to me. Do you want me to send you a Paypal or check or pay when I get there? Jim
  23. Okay, the caves and a steam show has clinched it for me. I'm in. Save a spot for my tent! I will probably stay over on Sunday night and leave on Monday, so I can spend some time at the steam show on Sunday. See y'all on Thursday afternoon! Jim
  24. I'm so old I can't remember what y'all are talking about! LOL Jim
  25. Now I have a problem....do I go to this campout or to one in Alleghany State Park in PA, on the same weekend? Decisions, decisions! Jim
