  1. WOW....looks fantastic my friend. I wouldn't actually ride it anywhere. Maybe just sit it in the living room.
  2. Good for you. I know it's hard. I need to do the same thing but just haven't found the will power.
  3. That is what most of us suspected I think. I doubt that he knows where or not second gear has been repaired. If it has, it is probably still worth looking at. If not, I would keep looking.
  4. This is one of the coolest conversions I've seen anybody here undertake. Love the idea and looking forward to watching your adventure.
  5. No I haven't. It is something that I may do later. Loved it on the '99. Here's the thing, after riding the Harley for about 3 years, the RSV seems geared very LOW. LOL....I know it's not but compared to the Harley it feels wound up. I'll get used to it for a while before changing again to the VMax. I'm sure I'll want to at some point. Probably the first decent trip pulling a loaded trailer. Of course you are talking about the first gen. For the second get, ALL the gears get lower.
  6. I was swapping some emails with Nanci at Ace High Leathers, @Luvdaleather , and she mentioned that she has a hard time getting the hole to center perfectly with the button on the saddlebag. She asked what I thought about removing the black plastic surround and putting it on top of the leather or vinyl. I once had another set of covers and remembered that they were done that way. Nanci asked if I wanted to volunteer to give it a try so sure...why not. Here is a picture of the end result. I think that it gives the lid covers a more finished look. I sent her a couple of pictures and she likes it also. If you have her lid covers already, this is simple to do and I think worth the effort. You don't cut out any of the material, just punch a couple of holes for the screws to go through.
  7. I think I'm finally done with the Midnight. Since Maintenance Day, I added the chrome passenger and rider floorboards and the chrome oil filler cap. I think that finishes it up. Yes, I know there are still some bits and pieces out there but nothing that I really want to add. I'm not that wild about the chrome battery covers and though I was thinking I would add the crash bar mounted wind deflectors, I remembered that they sort of got in my way when using the highway pegs. When I feet are on the highway pegs, that is MOST of the time, I just shift with my heel without taking my feet off the pegs, the wind deflectors got in the way of me doing that. So I think I'm done now. Well...there are TWO more things that I will get to at some point. The Stebel or Wolo horn and possibly the SpeedoHealer. Now I just need to get the bugs washed off from our last ride and get some nice pictures out in the sun.
  8. I tell you what. No explanation was needed because a man or woman should ride whatever brings the biggest smile. That being said, that was one heck of a nice explanation. Very nice.
  9. If it is an '83 - mid '85 with 70,000 miles on it, second gear has either been done or very likely will need done any time now. It can be repaired but you need to be a decent mechanic on have pretty deep pockets if you plan to have it done. It does require pulling the motor and splitting the case. It is sometimes hard to even find a mechanic that would do it for you. If you did, be prepared to pay more for that repair than he is asking for the bike. I'm sorry, but that one just scares me a bit even though it has a certain coolness about it.
  10. Enjoy...I recently did just the opposite. Sold my '13 Road Glide and went back to the Yamaha.
  11. Something is screwed up about that. I think he has the year wrong. That is certainly NOT an '87 trunk and it would not be a 1200 engine.
  12. Thanks. That was the information that I was looking for. I had the Flanders on the '99 and liked them. It's just that I had read that the OEM RSTD bars would do the same thing and you can pick them up for much less money. I have a set of RSTD bars on the way already so will give them a try first.
  13. LOL....Highway Peg....now that is pretty darn cool.
  14. Freebird

    Vmax

I've go no problem with it if there is enough interest.
  15. Just a quick update. I received the second chrome cap and it works perfectly. Screws in easily just like the stock one did. No doubt the first one was plated too thickly.
  16. No, probably not. He does a great job on the seat. He relieves it in the tailbone area so that you don't have the pressure points. It does not change the riding position however. Some people love the "feet under" position that the first gen puts you in. Others of us never liked it and prefer the feet forward position of the second gen.
  17. I don't see the issue here. She is a very cute young lady. I would just ride along in the back seat with a shotgun.
  18. Sounds like fun. I wouldn't mind doing something like that. Be safe and enjoy.
  19. No problem. Sorry for the wrong info the first time.
  20. Weather is supposed to be perfect tomorrow and Monday. May as well go for a ride.
  21. Makes it easy to remember your name or where you live?
  22. Thanks. It already has SS lines on the brakes and though I don't know how long they are, there appears to be more than enough slack. Throttle and clutch is all I'll have to mess with I think.
  23. No, your not stupid, I just told you wrong. Click on "settings" at the upper right corner of this page. Then you'll find "signature" in the left menu.
  24. Just to clarify....the left horn is inside the left LOWER...not the upper fairing.
  25. Signature. If you edit your profile there is a place to create your signature. It is where the maps and etc. are shown in peoples posts.
