LOL....didn't even see that. Pretty well centered huh?

There is something that I have been thinking about for a while but haven't done anything and I should have long ago. I am always saddened when I look at our memorial page. We have lost some great members here. Such is life and though I personally feel that they are in a better place now, we still miss them. Sometimes they leave behind spouses that were also a valuable part of our group. We should never forget about them either. What I want to do is offer free lifetime memberships to the spouses of any of our deceased members. They can set up their own usernames if they don't already have one or if they get some kind of comfort in using the username of their deceased spouse, that is fine also. What I'm asking from you is that if you know any of these ladies, please contact them and let them know that they always have a membership here. Just have them send me a message if they want to use the old username or create an account and then send me a message letting me know who they are just in case I miss one. I feel that this is the very least that I can do to honor those members who have left us too soon.

Saw this in a Walmart parking lot today. Thought it looked pretty cool. It is a Harley Sportster with a Liberty Sidecar. Looks like a fun little ride.

I see that the Magnum Plus mirrors are available with flat or convex glass. Which do you have? I assume that the convex gives somewhat of a blind spot advantage but haven't seen any in person to confirm.

I don't think I've seen one on the market. You could just cut the back part off. You are new here so please don't take offense but this area is for POLLS...I'm going to move this to the Second Gen Tech Talk area for you.

I don't know. Some type of railroad signal lantern?

I've done the Dragon a few times and the some of the BRP. Would like to do all the BRP. I was born and raised in Texas and have done a small part of the Twisted Sisters but not all of it. I really want to get down there and do it all.

2nd gen center stand
Freebird replied to bikerjohn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, I used to convert first gen stands to work on the RSV. Just a matter of fabricating a bracket for it. Probably built and sold about 150 of them. I don't mess with it any longer but here is a thread that shows how to do it with all dimensions and etc. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?1427-Freebird-Centerstand-Installation -
Login to PayPal. Click on the little gear icon beside "log out" at the upper right. That is "settings". Then click on "Security". That is where you will be able to deactivate the key and also activate the new text message system if you want to.

2nd gen center stand

Rivco was closing them out a couple of weeks ago. They were listed on Ebay for something like $160.00 while they lasted. -
I do watch "Walking Dead" so was familiar with Norman and his character. I knew about this show but it didn't look that exciting to me so I had never watched it. So after reading the posts here, I went to "On Demand" with my TV service where you can watch back episodes. I've watched two of them now. The first covered the Dragon and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the second the Twisted Sisters between Austin and San Antonio. Much to my surprise, I actually enjoyed both and plan to watch the others as I have time. Actually makes me want to get on the bike and do some exploring and that can't be a bad thing. I will say this about the bikes he rode in these two episodes. That Confederate Hellcat in the Dragon episode looked cool but VERY uncomfortable to me. Would hate to ride it very far but would love to ride it. In the second episode he road a Triumph. It looked like a nice bike but you talk about a WHINE? WOW....I think it is much worse than I've heard on ANY Venture.

I never felt that it was a matter of HAVING to go to church. Most Christians go to church because they WANT to. I hope this conversation doesn't get out of hand. We all know the rules here, including me so I probably shouldn't have said anything at all.

But do you use the security key? That is what is causing issues. It is a key that gives you another level of protection. It was on my keychain. When I sign in with my name and password, I just a button and it gives me a code that I have to enter before I can log in. That is what they have discontinued and didn't tell anybody. It prevents your account from getting hacked if somebody were to get your password. I have used it for years. It would not have been a problem if they had simply sent out a notification that they were discontinuing it. You have the option to deactivate it once you are logged in. They way they did it though, you couldn't deactivate it because it has to work before you CAN log in. No problem now that I've called them and had THEM deactivate it on my account. The new system, if you want to use it, is that they automatically send you a text with the code to enter instead of using the digital device.

Yesterday morning I tried logging into my PayPal account and was unable to do so. My name and password was fine but I use the security key also and it kept telling me that the number I was entering was incorrect. When I tried "use another way" which brings up my security questions, it said unable to log you in, please call customer support. So I called customer support and after she had me change my password and etc., it would still not work. She then said that she discovered that they are having an issue with the security keys and were working to correct the issue. She asked me to wait a couple hours and try again. This morning I was still unable to access my account so I called again. This time I was told that yes, they are discontinuing the old type security keys and that they would no longer work. I was told that the only way I would be able to access my account was to allow them to disable the security key on my account and did I want them to do that. Well....duh....if it's not going to work then of COURSE I want it disabled. So she did that and I was finally able to access my account. They have a new system where you do not have a physical key but they send you a code via text message that you have to enter to access your account. If you want it. It is an optional second layer of protection as the old key was. I went ahead and activated it but apparently things are quiet correct with it yet because though it DOES text me a code, it allows me to login to my account with just my name and password and never asks me to enter the code. Here's the thing though. Why would they just let the old security keys stop working without sending out any kind of notification to the users? I never got an email, there is nothing posted on their website, there is nothing in the community forum. You know nothing until you finally call and they tell you. Then you are on hold because they say that "call volume is high". Imagine that. I wonder why call volume would be high. You can disable your security key in your account settings. I wonder how much lower call volume would have been if they had sent out a message to their customers instructing them to go to their account settings and disable the old security keys before they turned them off. Whatever happened to common sense. Anybody seen it lately?

Anyone have "little known secrets" about 2nd Gen
Freebird replied to VentureFar's topic in Watering Hole
A lot of people leave the petcock on reserve all the time. I don't. In bright light I often don't even see when the light comes on so the sputtering is my warning that I am low on gas. To answer your question, NO, the light does NOT come on before I have to switch to reserve. It usually comes on just a couple miles later. -
Yes, they are shims. The guy told you wrong. Hard to believe huh? Good looking bike and I'm sure you will work through the small issues. There are some major issues that can pop up on the '83 models though. You don't say how many miles on it but second gear is a bit issue and usually goes on the '83 - mid '85 models at some point. Usually around 60,000 miles or so. Also, the '83's have a problem on some where the frame rusts out. A lot of them on the road still but it is not uncommon. For the backfiring, the first thing to start with would be a good carb sync and then go from there.

Plug the cable from the antenna into the SWR meter. Actually the meter will be between the antenna and the black box.

I've used mine several times now. Love it. Radio Shack had the cables if yours don't come soon.
