  1. Ya that's my pic. Taken at Star Days in Chattanooga in 07. The guy built frame brackets out of 1/4" steel then chrome plated them. They are similar to the HD brackets just fabricated to fit the Royal. Cant recall if the tank was from a 1st gen royal or something else. He said it was very solid.I only shot this one pic ,wished I had shot more.I made up a scaled example of what it(RSTD) might look with a Glide faring. see attached pic
  2. Top speed on my RSTD while on a 2 mile 3% downdrade was 114 on the GPS . I also have my DK3 rev set at 7500rpm. This pig is slow!!!
  3. Holy catfish! That more like a freshwater shark I guess!!
  4. That sounds about right. Anyone getting higher mileage is running this bike with an easy hand.
  5. ...some 40 years ago we called these Tote-Goats, any body remember them?
  6. Locally here they were having demo rides. I couldnt resist riding it. For ove a half hour.Very comfy ,great protection from the elements, and controls are great. It looks like it would be a decent ride and it was. For a twin that is . It would make a great highway bike I suppose for the ride. Not a lot of low end power though. Flat in the midrange. The weirdest thing about it was the windshield . It must have been 3 feet away from my head , real strange. Its electrically adjustable but better in low setting. While the looks are ,well "unique ", I expected it to be a better ride. Maybe I'm just partial to my RSTD but when I got back on mine I was convinced it was a better bike. ...just my own opinion.
  7. I know what you mean about group riding in heavy traffic. I'm the road captain and with the tail gunner we should be able to hold our own in traffic. But when on a ride to Longmont CO a couple of years agowith a small group, we entered on to Denver Rush hour traffic heading south. Before we got on the interstate I tried to encourage the group to merge as though we were 1 block. I said we needed to "get up to speed" on the on ramp so we could tie into the fast traffic which was doing around 75-80. But some of the riders absolutely refused to go faster than their "norm "which was well under the current flow.Well as you can expect we got scattered over a mile and half. The CO. drivers I've found are pretty good at letting merging traffic in so there was no problem other than spooking the slow riders. But used to live In Vegas for 10 years (not with bike)and I've seen some nasty turf wars over personal driving space which led to nasty accidents. I would never think of taking an inexperienced group into that traffic. Lesson learned.
  8. ...well let me clarify that question a bit. And ya, I do have bias to a particular answer. Really what I dont understand is why some drivers seem to have control over traffic like on secondary 2 lane roads or even two "controllers" on an interstate. I cant help but think that a few of them get some sick satisfaction for regulating the law or forcing people to drive at their speed. I am a commuter and see this happen too often. I feel that it safer to go with the flow at a safe distance rather than be an obsticle.
  9. I have a question for anyone interested. If you could , would you make everyone drive "your " speed? That is if you were that all-powerful or had the authority. I'm just being curious as to why some people drive the way they do.
  10. I had my Panasonic dv camcorder mounted to my crash bars. The end was slowed down, trying to be funny about a little dead bunny.
  11. Its so cold outside snow and lows tonight in the single digits with more snow coming. I've still got a few hours of late night work left slapping on some polyurethene on some leftover work ,now I am bored and tired but I remembered this and thought I would share it .......A while back when I was tired of working and eating sawdust I quit working and went for a ride. Thats what its all about , Right? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pp2_sLAXfE]YouTube - Old Hardin Road part 2[/ame]
  12. Man , I cant believe how far these post's have gone. I finally did put the Dyna3k on my Tur'd and while the weather here in MT hasnt been nice enough to put in a real good test, the short trips I've taken have shown an improvement. At least near bottom to midrange performance. I have tried the 7250 rpm with curve 3 then bumped it to the next setting7500 at curve 4, much better there.I can probably live with that now. But I really need to take it out on a long ride to find out for sure. I really can't go more than a couple of hundred miles (round trip) for a test . Because getting caught in freezing weather sucks. My only other option it seems is gutting the engine and , well , MAX' ing it out. I would then have an 800 pound rocket or gorilla ,I guess, with a fuel range between 120 and 150 mile's depending on wrist action. But in a vision I had while contemplating the overhaul's expense and results I realized what I really needed was an FJR 1300. So , I think that I'm going to save up my sparkle bucks for a sport -tourer deluxe. with a range of 250+ miles and topped out at 160 mph I should be able to go to the moon and back!!
  13. Well I think this RSTD is a fantastic bike for me, I just want to squeeze the best possible performance out of it that I can. The V-Max doesnt suit me that well. And since I cant have my FJR for a couple of years, I plan to make this a go-fast bike for now. You know, new bike, might as well use it. Incidently I went for a quick ride (120miles) before a cold front came in and wanted to finaly see what my GPS would register the max speed as. While coming down a slight grade with a tail wind I hit the Rev-Limiter at 114 mph while the speedo was buried a little past 120. I've already ordered the DK3!! HooHaa!!
  14. Thanks for the info Pegscraper, I think I'll start with the Dyno first. That may be enough to satisfy me. If so that'll save me a couple grand. And I agree it is a detuned sport bike engine. I remember hearing about what the first batch of V-Max bikes were doing. "Too much power in the wrong hands can be dangerous- look at Oprah."
  15. I cant recall if that was at the crank or wheel . I'm assuming at the crank. And he was not talking about a stock V-Max cam but a Hi perf. cam including re-doing the valves ,springs etc. And bumping my redline up to 7500. Is the V-Max rear a lower gearing? Also what are V-Boost cams? He's fairly well known for the Old Royal Star modifications, cant remember the specifics though. Thanks Eric
  16. I may have the chance to put some teeth into my 05 RSTD By changing out the valves ,cams ,timing curve and possibly changing pipes. I had been talking to the owner of a local Yammie shop who builds speed bikes for Bonneville. Cliff Gullett, Owner of Team Bozeman Motorsports has set several records himself. http://www.team-bozeman.com/custompage2.asp?pg=BonnevilleRacingTeam For about $2300 he says he can get 115 hp out of my Turd De Lux. Yes thats an expensive mod so I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience doing this and if so what results? And to answer the inevitable next question ,No, its not fast enough for me. Its a great improvement over my 04 Roadie but this bikes performance flattens out after 80-90 mph. Ive already changed to K&Ns and rejetted for my altitude . But I'm looking for more mid range - top end performance. Any opinions would be appreciated. Eric
  17. The bikes are fine if that what floats you cork. I'M just a little tired of the "ride, image and the attitude "of the Harley Fashion. And I'm looking for a better design that isnt 20 years old. I'm not really into the retro thing.
  18. Thats right I forgot about the corbin , will check it out. Thanks just checked it out ....still looks like a damn HD ...Bleghhh !
  19. Has anybody ever heard of a fairing for a RSTD that doesnt resemble anything like a Harley? Other than the Roadglide but thats a frame mounted job .
