  1. If I had this bike when I was 18 I would most likely not be posting this today . I was completely invincible until age 25. At 50 I realize my mortality and have a ton of respect for what liter sport bikes have become. If it doesn't terrify me I'll probably keep it, if it does I'll find some other maniac to trade/sell it off to haha. Just by riding it into the garage I can feel how wicked it is. I've always wanted something like this, I'll bet it's a bit more than I need though.
  2. I've been trying to sell my rock crawling Samurai for a while, never the right buyer. This guy tried to trade me a Harley for it, while I would take a pan or knuck, or most things non-sportster and pre-evo. If I were to take an HD it would have to be one from an era before the culture got so watered down. I mentioned that I would also consider Euro or Jap bike so he offered up a 2009 GSXR1000 in immaculate condition with 14k on the clock. I had to sweeten the deal a little with a boomstick but even though it's a 10 year old bike it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. It has a Powercomander V, Racefit exhaust, some adjustable shorty levers, a DJ tune something or other, Fender delete, upgraded steering dampener, upgraded intake and some other goodies. Just moving it into the garage made my palms sweat. There is snow, and I could not actually ride it but when it ticked over the hair on the back of my neck stood up. It's obviously been pampered and loved, never down or abused. I'm not sure why I figure I'd need a bike like this at my age, I spect' the seller was not lying when he said it is a terrifying machine. I will probably ride it a few times and put it up for sale/trade, we'll see how the first ride on the spring goes. Aside from removal of a few decals I dont spect' I'll do a darn thing to it. Puc is a few days older than me and he got an R1 awhile back IIRC, so maybe it'll be okay . Counting the days until spring!!!
  3. I'm pretty sure he meant $800, which would be a very good deal. I'm giving him/her credit for not allowing his or her spouse to dictate vehicle sales and purchases, which might be optimistic on my part. Maybe he means 8k Pesos? It's only got 37k on it
  4. I'm a huge BMW fan, both cars and bikes. They are more expensive regarding service and parts. When buying German anything the service history is vital. Without it the value plummets, which might be good for a buyer if the seller understands this. Maintenance is critical, so the service history that proves it was observed is also critical. There were issues with final drives on some of those, where others seemed to be fine. Stock BMW seats suck ass, budget for a seat. German stuff is generally more advanced and sophisticated than anything else. Over-engineered many will say. They can be finicky and require more love than their simply spectacular Japanese counterparts which are by many measures less exciting but so much more trouble-free. I say throw a leg over one and if it feels right then you have your bike. Get the seat tailored to your backside and you should be treated to a very nice machine. It does beg to be repeated that the cost of ownership is likely higher and maintenance schedules are not a suggestion. With the K1600 out there circulating around the K1200 becomes quite a bargain. I might be apprehensive about buying one with an unknown past unless it is obviously babied. I would own one in a heartbeat, but I would not pay much for it unless I know it's up on all service and ready to rock. You can invest a decent chunk of change if it needs any "TLC". Check in with the BMW forums and read a bit on specifics. If your cool with a higher cost of ownership and the bike fits you then I say it's definitely worth considering.
  5. It reached a high of 38 here, I think it hit 40 in town, been wet and soupy. Last night there were a few snow flakes wafting through the air. Mostly freezing rain though, ya'll and your 9x degrees, HAH! I'd be happy to trade about 30 degrees with one of you gents.
  6. I'll throw out some food-for-thought just in case the fuel valve suggestions above turn out to not be the issue. 1. That would depend on your level of comfort working inside a carb, these CV carbs are not terribly complicated but still some carb experience or some help would probably be a good thing. 2. NEVER EVER EVER, not even once, use Chinese parts in the carb, means avoid all the unbranded/odd brand Ebay stuff, especially anything coming shamelessly out of China. OEM suppliers besides a Yamaha stealership would be Boats.net, Morleys Muscle (Vmax guy) with tons of OEM items in stock. Many others I cant recall pre-coffee. K&L carb kits are made in Japan and not China, so yea, worlds of difference and they are quite a better bargain than OEM. All should be in the kit unless you need to replace floats, Jet Block Plugs or Diaphragms. Some sellers sell just parts, others kits, look at the complete kit and you will get an idea what it should include. I dont believe it would be cost effective to buy the parts loose and not in a kit unless you only need one or two things. If your lucky you might be able to disassemble the carbs and see what is needed after a visual inspection, my guess is there is problem other than the carbs themselves. If your getting 42 US gal and it's running well it would seem odd that it's rich enough to put that much gas in the oil in only 150 miles. It's getting there somehow. I would suspect a stuck float or something but MPG and performance would suffer. Based on the info given I hesitate to automatically condemn the carbs without looking further. Is there a history of ethanol fuel in this bike? If it was stored with ethanol then you may have some sludgy corn-squeezings in the carbs. Make sure there is nothing plugging up the carb overflow tubes. Do you ever smell raw fuel while riding, or while the bike is sitting, warm or cool? Could read the plugs and do a compression test while they are out, see if all cyl are consistent. Damaged or worn rings/cyl can sure introduce raw fuel into the oil, but with your mileage it sounds unlikely. Still maybe worth a look before starting to buy parts. If you remove the carbs and split the rack they will need to be synchronized after the bike is reassembled. No big deal but should not be overlooked.
  7. an A1C of 12.4 is very high, 4-5.5 is normal-ish for non-diabetics. I'm sure your new Dr. is taking it slow because if he tries to lower your sugars to fast it can bottom you out and a low blood sugar can turn into a medical emergency right quick. Now that your on meds for it you may get a little low. Slowly they will come down as your sugars begin to normalize and you/he sort out what works for you. If I may suggest one of those medical bracelets, it could be a literal life saver. Your healthy weight is going to work in your favor. I linked a little reading from Mayo Clinic because they are a good source of reliable information. Do some reading if you have not already, it's good stuff to know. Very glad that your on the right path, sounds like this physician is a little sharper than the last one .
  8. I'll throw my hat into the ring, I live where there are still a lot of open roads, most of my riding is gliding down a rural byway or interstate. She is happiest at 3000-4000k, its where the power seems to really start working. I think if it were geared any higher the power band would be harder to match to road speed. I wont lie, I would take a 6th gear on anything I own that doesn't already have one, but on the Venture I'm not even going into 5th until I'm already at speed. Another consideration for the bikes final gearing has to be the bikes immense girth, many more taller gears would probably be to much for the sheer weight of the bike. It takes A LOT of torque to move a 900lb bike at highway speeds, and again up hills and against the wind. If it had a 6th gear I suspect we would be doing a lot of downshifting back into 5th. Sounds like your scoot is doing exactly what it loves to do!
  9. 35 lbs in 40 days is pretty excessive. IIRC 3 lbs a week is about max safe wt loss, anything more and there is likely muscular atrophy and extra water loss. I work in geriatrics so my first concern would be dehydration, then on to the other stuff. Age is a big factor too. I agree you will benefit from replacing your physician. He/she should have caught that as just a matter of reviewing your routine blood work, which would be one of the first things he would do when you present with such symptoms, or even just a routine checkup. You might want to have a look at your A1C which might shed some light on how new this issue really is. It could have been present but asymptomatic for some time. It's alarming that your Dr. blew off some of those things you told him, he's lucky I'm not your nurse or he and I would be having a dialog with some unhappiness. That much weight loss should have been a big red flag for a medical professional to hear. Luckily adult onset/Type II is often treatable with just diet and exercise, maybe an oral med. Did they give you a sit down and cover management of DM? If not then do get one soon. If I may, keeping a food diary if all you eat is an amazing tool for managing DM. Keep that with your blood sugars and have it with you for the Dr to see. The food diary is more for you, but the blood sugars should show a pattern going forward and help you/Dr develop a plan of attack. DM requires a plan of care, if even a simple one with little more than monitoring blood sugars and maintaining your weight, which is probably now right about where it should be. The good news is this is one of the more treatable things of all the neat stuff we can come down with. I'm glad this was caught finally and I hope you get to feeling better very soon.

The weather here in South Dakota is pretty decent, cooling down in the evenings but still darn nice, most of the tourists are gone but still best to avoid Rapid City unless you LOVE people and traffic. I know you've thought of all this but here it goes; Bring your adverse weather gear, this time of year can get pretty nasty with no warning, especially on the eastern end of the state and x2 after dusk. Expect chill. Watch out for the hooved rats (deer), their favorite pastime is trying to spread their insides all over peoples vehicles and annoying insurance adjusters. If you DO end up laying over near Rapid you can call me for a place to set up camp if your camping or lunch meet, I'm west of town in the Black Hills. I assume your familiar with SD reservations... These are not exactly tourist destinations, and for good reason. Hopefully someone in your group has been there and knows what to expect. Be safe and enjoy, you picked a right pleasant time to ride in South Dakota!

  13. I cant even imagine this sort of thing, so very sorry for your loss. I have a daughter about her age, but I still respect that I'm not able to grasp where you must be. I can hear your pain and I have never had a more sincere regret that there is probably nothing I can say or do to help. I'm with Don though, might not be a bad idea to guide your actions according to what would closest honor how she would like you to proceed. Please don't rule out talking to a professional about this, at least friends and family. I'm sending you all the positive energy that I possibly can.
  14. +1 for Rotella T4 15-40. Both Venture and Vmax, and about anything else that doesn't call for synthetics.
  15. Check tires/date codes. Steering head bearings, fork seals and VC gaskets, pretty much anything that can leak or age. I use a service history to help me decide value and show me if the PO has been doing the reqd maintenance. I remove quite a bit of value for an absent service history and add a bit if they are meticulous. Valve adjustment intervals are another thing, if it's about ready for that then maybe you can factor that into the price. I think this one is not due for awhile though. If your not in a hurry you might wait a year. I have a feeling that this coming "downturn" is going to see prices plummet even further on luxury items like motorcycles. You would not believe the screaming deals I got on a couple bikes and a truck when the dotcom jobs all evaporated overnight. All that being said, his price does sound fair if it's really that nice.
  16. Thats too bad, one of the best auto mfrs on earth gets associated with that sort of thing. But I know it's true. I drive an Audi and I can see that people sometimes expect me to do crap like that. There are not many German cars where I live as there are no nearby dealers sans VW so we get dickholed by the folks that drive Yukon and Suburban variants instead. Oh, and the Harleys are by far worse than any cage. No worse dicks occupy public roadway, and by a very wide margin. Just the sound of a Harley makes me wonder what stupid or rude **** is about to go down. When I lived in the Seattle area I definitely noticed a vast majority was rude and impatient, but the drivers of premium German cars you could almost count on it, generally. I have noticed over the last few years, regardless of location or setting, that lots of folks are just impatient and angry. It seems to be more how things are moving in society than traffic related, but what better time to let out ones rage than in traffic where everyone is already suffering. I would say, based on my experience having lived in a metro area and traveled to others, that anyplace so severely overcrowded to necessitate an HOV lane will have these issues. Many many city folks just drive like that, regardless of auto choice, no way around it that I can see. Too bad, I LOVE German cars but also hate the way many folks pilot them. I speculate that the added performance over the average American or Japanese autos inspires spirited driving. It's like paying all that extra scratch for a fantastic performance car just to be a dick about it. I know it's a reality but it makes no sense. I don't understand people.
  17. These CV carbs rely on the constriction afforded by the factory airbox. Without the airbox I'm a little surprised it runs/idles to any acceptable level. You can get the OEM airbox, probably pretty reasonably priced as I'm sure someone here has a pile of then laying around. There are two correct answers here that I'm aware of. 1. Replace factory air box. Should quiet things down a bit too. I run my Vmax with a custom airbox and the correctors, I can hear lots of throaty music that I would not like to hear after hours in the saddle. 2. Use the air corrector jets. Tiny brass plugs about the size of a pencil eraser, set of 4, they press right into the top of the carbs with no disassembly required. They fool the carbs into thinking that the restriction of the airbox is still there so that pods or free flowing setups can be used without going in and rejetting everything. In fact I'm thinking if your riding this thing around it already has those brass doodads added, or the tune was tweaked to make it sort of run. If they are there you should remove them before placing the OEM airbox back on. I'm looking for a pic of mine but cant find it. If you post a top down pic of the tops of one of your carbs we'll be able to see if these jets are visible. (They dont go in or on the barrels, but a small orifice adjacent to the barrel. Oh, and welcome!! Congrats on the fine steed.

Our Western nation does not really embrace non-Western remedies, there is not enough money in it besides much of our medical community wears pride like a stripe and have a hard time accepting that someone else may have an upper hand on certain treatments. Big pharma and insurance often dictate care just via what they cover and dont. Pharma is still in a panic over the increasing legality of cannabis, as well they should be, although I doubt that would help you with this it's nice to see anything take some wind out of the sales of big pharma. A nodule could be it, or not. It sure could effect the endocrine system being on the thyroid, so to rule it out would be premature from what we know here IMHO. My first suspect would be the BP meds. One of your readings up above is a bit light, might have been during a (probably/maybe) orthostatic hypotension episode, or hypovolemia if your not drinking enough water. If your a consumer of ETOH or caffeine then you will need even more water as those are common diuretics and cause you to void enough that you need to drink more to stay hydrated. If cutting your BP med dose made improvements then consider this. If there has been no meaningful med review with your Dr and pharmacist it might be time for that and to look at specifically at the BP meds. So many meds list dizziness as a SE that it might be hard to know what's what but look at anything else you have been doing differently also. Meds, dietary or exercise changes, even ambient temperature or stress levels are connected and effect everything. Without seeing your chart or knowing your H&P or comorbidities it would be risky to assert one thing over another but my top $ is on a medication assuming your properly hydrated. I'm not a Dr. or endocrinologist I'm putting my $$ on a BP med dose adjustment or med change. If you do any altering of your meds your going to want to stay out of the saddle until you know very well how each change effects you. Dont hang the for sale sign out just yet, if your not making headway with your Dr. then ask for a referral to a specialist or try another Dr. Keep running records of your vitals (three x/day maybe), esp pulse and BP until you have this resolved. Also go ahead and record your fluid intake just for fun, it may be relevant to the Dr. Document what your doing and when you have the dizzy spells. Documenting everything you can may help illuminate a pattern with any professionals trying to help sort through it. Hang in there, I hope/think you will find a solution soon.
  19. Thanks Don for not dragging me over the coals haha. I could ride to Sturgis, view it and be back within about 2 hours with traffic. I very badly want to see/hear/feel this Indian but not bad enough to go to Sturgis during the Rally. I did read in a couple places that it would likely be at Sturgis this year. It would be foolish to NOT let it be seen there where so many of their customers are likely to be! I did not ride the Eluder, but I threw a leg over when I went down to try out the Gen3 Venture (which they did not have). The Eluder is really a nicely made bike, I was impressed by fit/finish but again, didnt ride. Also of note; BMW released a K1600B bagger that would fetch about $20k USD, fairly close to what your looking to spend but you would get that MAGICAL inline 6. Nope, I dont own BMW stock either. Different than what your looking at but a formidable and visually striking bagger in your price range nonetheless. It has dignity and plenty of testicular fortitude to be sure. At 130tq (most of it available by 1500rpm) and 160hp it's no joke but as with anything German, cost of parts, maintenance and ownership should be factored in. The Rocket III comes in bagger form too, thats a love it or hate it machine that needs no introduction. Thats one I did ride and dayum, put me squarely on the love-it list! If I ever stumble across a RIII at a bargain I'll own it for sure, they are simple, I like simple. I dont like touch screens on a bike, seems silly to me but I realize I'm in the minority on that one. The most trouble free bike I have ever owned was a Hinkley era Triumph so I'm biased towards Triumph, and really BMW too but it's hard not to be considering some of their offerings. Please keep us posted on your search and what you end up with. I'm excited on your behalf, it's a great time to be looking for a new steed, there are better deals and more amazing choices than at any time in the past. Oh, I forgot to say WELCOME!!! regardless of what you buy hopefully you will stick around, it's a great community.
  20. Devils advocate here... Please note, I'm no fanboy or shareholder of Indian/Polaris or any domestic motorcycle/car manufacturer for that matter. I know this is a Yamaha enthusiast forum and I stand the chance of stumbling into someones cross hairs but if it were me looking to plunk down 15-20+ large for a twin cruiser/bagger/tourer I would want to know about this too. Google 2020 Indian Raptor, it looks like they are producing a performance oriented big twin for 2020 by ditching the "air cooled" and "narrow angle" parts of the recipe while keeping the big twin part. I know performance is not usually a top priority for twin buyers but if it is important to you then I would be remiss not to at least mention this. I apologize for cluttering up your thread if you already knew about this or it doesn't matter. I'll be backing slowly out of the room now.

  23. I live outside West Rapid but I dont ride during the rally, I dont even usually drive anymore until everyone is gone. It's a good solid two weeks of laying low and enjoying nature/grilling meats. If you need to throw down camp for a night or two I do have room for that. Ironically I pass through your hometown several times a year, I rather like the panhandle. It's almost eerie how nice folks are there. Dont forget your wet/cold weather gear. It's been a fairly damp spring but on the upside everything is insanely green! Enjoy!
