  1. Gday Yama Mama, kind words, thank you, yes it was slightly surreal !!!!!, but SUPER COOL at the same time!!! If only I was not so ridiculously slow at typing I may have had a very slight chance of keeping up with the "conversation" ha ha. Unfortunatley for me the time you guys seem to be most "active" is the busiest time for me at work, around 2-4 in the afty, however I shall try my best!!! it's Saturday here and we have a huge load of firewood to stack before it starts to rain!!! Great to "meet" everyone yesterday, it won't be the last.
  2. From memory the idler gear can be placed back on the shaft incorrectly?, both "faces" are machined slightly differently are they not? Puc, anyone?
  3. G'day I did the stator on my '83 last year, I "dropped" the gear linkage to give clearance to the cover, everything gently, no need to use force!!! hope this helps. Steve
  4. Good job Eck!!! But PUC there were photos!!! you didn't mention the photos!!!! with your camera thingy!!!!!!
  5. G'day my early '83 has 35000 miles on the clock and not a sign of any problems with 2nd gear (until now I bet!!!!) When it does (probably next week now I have jinxed it!!!) I will repair it as I want my bike to be fully functioning and original as possible (maybe I should'nt fix it then...). Steve
  6. Well, that's me told!!!! Awesome, as per usual Puc!!!!! cheers for that, now... do we have "gremlins" down under...
  7. Ok, I first read this two hours ago Puc, apart from my sides hurting!!!! I have still not really fathomed out weather you are muckin with me, though that "story" seems well written... You see as an apprentice printer quiet some years ago I remember "almost" falling for the old "go to the engineer and ask for a LONG WEIGHT (wait...) routine... Ya not going to get me that easily mate !!!!!
  8. Ok at the risk of severe mocking... WHAT IS A GREMLIN BELL!!!!????
  9. One of these days mine will say GONE TO AMERICA WITH MY '83 (oh and my darling Tanz!)
  10. Haha I like that Clive, all good!!!
  11. What's a keyboard? So "last year" HaHa You guys are priceless, I have never smiled/laughed so much with some of the stuff you come up with here!!! Randy that head banging emoticon is fantastic, you use it perfectly!!! Sorry this does not add any real value to the question, I just had to say it!!! Please don't stop. Indebted Kiwi
  12. As an ex printer... Unfortunately there are a myriad of shades of the " colour " black, problem is, most are simply called...black!! I like detail too, but black over black in a different manufactures "tint" will be different. Yeaup I know, that was useful...

Well, on your profile pic, there's a couple of places it dont shine... just sayin LOL
  15. Good on ya Puc, kinda been missing the "lop eared varmint" line!!!!! HaHa
  16. G'day I have been using this, CRC808 silicone for years on my dirt bikes plastics, rubbers, radiator hoses, outer electrical hoses, also used it in the printing trade to prevent rust on machine beds etc... I also spray around the outer seals on my forks, both road and dirt, keeps the plastic/rubber "supple". The tech sheet states "non teflon" based silicone which is comforting considering I used it for 14 odd years as a printer!!!! (not keen on teflon based products) It sure does bring up the plastics beautiful, don't get it on the seat though or you will slip off!!!!!! Oh and speaking of slipping off, so does the water!!!
  17. Ah sorry Clive I have just re read the threads and discovered your "this is the way I do it" attachment, I see what you mean now, however using my "one man bleeder" set up, I can easily(I am 6'3) squeeze the front brake lever with my left hand whilst loosening the nipple with my long 8mm ring spanner, and yes no good to you if you still have linked brakes, interesting discussion though. Steve
  18. As Great White says, it's a great reason to de-link the brakes, I did with my '83, run two braided lines from the front master, plugged the rear, nice and tidy with a much better "feel" and stopping power both ends. Otherwise I guess it's a two "man" job Clive!!! Or... I would rig a rope around the rear brake pedal, run it under the "crash bars" or lower frame, ( so rope has downward action on pedal when pulled) by simply pulling on the rope downward pressure is applied to pedal, presto!!! should allow you to work the zerk ( sorry couldn't help myself!!!) I just quickly tried it ( rope test) on my '83, worked fine FYI. Steve
  19. Haha mate!!! It does not matter where it is situated!!(yes I have used it numerous times) the fluid is UNDER PRESSURE hence it will flow OUT of the nipple with either air bubbles or hopefully not! Forget about where the bottle is attached too, when you are holding the lever in and you tighten up the nipple that's it!!!! DONT LET GO OF THE LEVER UNTIL YOU HAVE TIGHTENED THE "valve" (nipple in my land) back up!!! If you like I will try and post a video for you? Steve
  20. G'day again Adam, here is the pic of the one man bleeder. I like you gain so much knowledge from the fantastic people on this forum ( I am a relative newbie here), this is just an easy and very tidy way for me to bleed my fluid lines, and as has already been stated, do this every year if you can, it really does get neglected on bikes and cars alike. I have not worked out how to add text to each photo (knowing this lot though someone will tell me on reading this!!!!!), anyway the first pic is as I brought it, complete with attachments and lines, the second pic is in in situ, I attach my ring spanner to the nipple (zerk, or whatever you call it in your land) then attach the line, a magnet attaches to the rear of the bottle, brake rotor holds it well for me, you know now how to do the rest. What I like about this method is that I can see the bubbles or NOT as the fluid flows down the transparent line, I can also see the change in OLD FLUID TO NEW if I am flushing an old system. Oh and I attached this to my bike for your photo, otherwise I would be very worried about all that air in there!!!!
  21. You wont be alone VR's when you visit NZ!!! right back at ya Puc, if you guys want my shirt it's yours !!!!! I will even crank up my BBQ to cook up those hot dog things you goin on about!!!!!
  22. Haha makes Eck's electric bike look positively bare doesn't it!!!!!
  23. FYI, A couple of pics showing what I installed, the cover plate can be seen in the pic with the old burnt out stator (note up turned flange facing "in"), the stator plate affiixed to the new "Ricks" stator, and the original and new "drilled" bolts.
