  1. yup it is the super cooled water thingy. But then it is pure water that freezes at 32°F or 0°C. Well water and spring water are anything but pure. If you want to know what pure water tastes like, get some distilled water and drink that, it is about as close to pure water as you can easily get without spending a lot of money. You keep your freezers pretty warm, my freezer on the fridge is kept at 10°F and my big freezer is kept at -10°F
  2. Yup, they lied, AGAIN! We only got about half of what they said we would get. This storm was no fun so I shipped it off to the east..................
  3. These bikes do not need premium. When traveling I will sometimes find ethanol free only in premium then I may splurge for a tank. Otherwise, you are just wasting money.
  4. That same storm is dumping here right now. It started last night and I woke to about 7 inches. Expecting another 4-6 inches today. Another 2-3 inches tonight. and another 1-2 inches tomorrow before I am all done with it and send it on to the east for you folks to enjoy..................... I do not believe the weatherman with his total guesstimates. they always guess way high so that people are relieved that we did not get as much as predicted. People get POed if we get more than expected.
  5. Weather is looking good for Saturday, 45°F and sunny. Good time to get your RSVP in on the calendar.
  6. Check the date code on the tires, if more than 7 years old replace even if the look good. While bleeding the brakes for a fluid change also bleed the clutch for a fluid change. When you change the oil, only fill to the bottom line on the sight glass, any more and it will end up getting sucked into the carbs and make a mess. As for the K&N air filter. these bike do not like the air box or filter to be messed with, if the PO rejeted to make the K&N work good then you want to stay with the K&N. If not then it will probably run better with a stock air filter. Good call on not using the 200A boost charger, it would fry the regulator rectifier. I do not remember the filter number, I just go into NAPA or Oriles and ask for a filter for an 88 venture. (same as your 87) The fuel pump will only click if the carbs need fuel. as soon as the float bowls are full the pump stops. When you turn the key on there is a timer that will only run the pump for 2 seconds until the engine is running. A good starting point is to set the front forks at 5psi and the rear shock at 40. This should keep you busy for a while. ANd welcome
  7. It sure sounds like an intermittent connection to the dash. Possibly need to resolder where the connectors are. Check the grounds to.
  8. When you add in the additional frame rails you will want them to go all the way front to back in one piece, each side. You sure do not want to create a stress riser in the middle of the trailer.
  9. Looking good.................
  10. My mattress is now nearing 40 years old, still feels the same as the day I bought it. I have a hard time sleeping on any other mattress because it just don't feel right. The only time I wake up with aches or pains is when I did something dumb the day before and earned those aches and pains. I expect this mattress to out live me. Yes I am old school, I have a king size waterbed. Water just does not wear out, It will have the same properties a thousand years from now, does not get depressions, it is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Yes you have to add chemicals once a year to keep it in good health. I will have this water bed until I can no longer get sheets and chemicals for it.
  11. Absolutely, If you do this we need a LOT of before during and after pics. If you do not post enough pics we will sic @cowpuc and the on you.
  12. Any issue can be overcome. Just trying to be sure that you are aware of ALL of the potential issues before you are at the point of no return. Do some more careful measuring of you 1st gen. Mine is more than 8' long. I park it in a 8' metal garden shed. It has to be at almost a 45° angle to get the door closed. Measure the exact inside dimension of your trailer. Now lay that out on the ground and set up some boxes or sheets of wood to simulate the walls and door width. See if you can get the bike thru that without touching the walls or door, and close the door behind the bike. You may have to make the door wider than what you planned. As for loading, I would strongly consider using an electric winch like Rbig1 did in his RV build. If after considering all of the issues and you still want to do the conversion, we will still give you all of the help you need. As for total weight, there is a lot more "stuff" than most people realize, you have to figure in the pots pans silverware, dishes, cleaners, toiletries, food lawn chairs table all of the little stuff that individually weighs almost nothing but adds up to several hundred pounds if you put it all in a pile. For measuring the tongue weight, you can use a bathroom scale, since the weight will be a lot more than most bathroom scales can handle, make a lever to get your reading. Take a piece of thicker plywood about a foot square and put a dowel or rod across it to put on the scale to spread out the load so you do not damage it and get killed by wife. Make a support that has a narrow top that is the same height as the scale + ply and rod. Get a lever arm that is a little more than 3 feet long. Put a mark near one end, then an mark 1 foot from the first mark and then another mark 3 feet from the first mark. Set it up with the first mark on your support, centered on the support that you made, Then the second mark will be under the coupler on the trailer. The third mark will be in the center of your scale + ply + rod. Use a pipe or 2x4 or something similar to reach up to the coupler, its length should be to match the ball height of the tow vehicle when the trailer is attached. Now when you lower the tongue onto this contraption and read the scale, you will have to multiply the scale reading by 3 to get the actual tongue weight. This way a 600 lb tongue weight would read as 200 lb on the scale. Set this all up on the scale to get an idea of how much your contraption weighs so that you can subtract that from the scale reading. You can use this same theory to weigh the whole trailer using your bathroom scale. You will just need a longer lever arm, maybe a 5 : 1 instead of a 3 : 1 for the tongue. PS Do not let the wife see you make off with the bathroom scale............
  13. OK so where is everyone? Just 1 week away and it is not looking like much of a crowd.
  14. Cool, enter toy shopping mode to celebrate. I am curious, for the live fire tests, what is the target and at what range?
  15. I see the equal pay for equal work thing play out every day at work. There is one woman machinist in our shop. The quality of the parts she makes is equal to what any of the men produce. But she does make a bit less pay than those around her. Her job description is the same, her job title is the same, and her actual duties are the same. The problem that none of these studies takes into account is that she is physically able to only do 95% of the job. When it comes time to lift something heavy into her machine during setup and tear down, one of the men near her has to stop what he is doing to help her do her job. Once this was pointed out to her she was able to accept that she should get less because her "equal work" was only on paper. I have absolutely no problem with equal pay for equal work if the work is truly equal. I also have no issue with pay inequality if the work is also not completely equal. I don't even have a problem with a woman making more if her work is actually better than the mans work.
  16. I work with a guy that is doing just that. He ordered a cargo trailer and had them build in the windows, doors and roof vents, one of which is stressed to support a roof mount AC, to his specs with the interior completely unfinished. He is now in the process of building it out to a toy hauler / RV that will meet his specific needs. He is making the walls thicker than normal for more insulation in them and is also insulating the floor and ceiling so that the AC does not have to work as hard on a hot day sitting in the sun or the furnace can keep up in the winter for deer hunting. His main motivation is that his wife is in a wheel chair and not even the "handicap accessible" campers have enough room to wheel her into the bathroom and for him to also be in there to lift her out of the chair onto the pot. The ramp on the back will also make it a lot easier to get her in and out of the camper.
  17. In addition to the tongue weight issues mentioned above and exceeding the GVW of the trailer and or the tow vehicle. A REALLY BIG issue will be the frame. I really doubt if the frame will be strong enough to hold that much weight. Many campers have frame issues just adding a rack on the back for 2 bicycles. I have seem broken frames from 2 mountain bikes on a rack. Look at your frame and then go to an RV dealer and look under a similar size toy hauler to see the difference in the frame and suspension. By the time you beef up the frame, and suspension and brakes to handle an extra 1200-1500lbs it might not be worth it.
  18. And without men they would not be here either.
  19. I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up..........
  20. I did make a request to have Freebird attempt to restore the attachments to this thread.
  21. I don't know if this site has enough bandwidth to do this............... Sledding down 50 foot high near vertical cliffs. Riding bicycles down those same cliffs. Just for fun pelting the squad cars with snowballs or rotten fruit/vegies what ever was in season as they drove by, they would chase you all night. Old people were no challenge. At the local hobby shop, jumping into a car with a total stranger to go to his house two cities away.
  22. Here is another one that could help with a problem. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?81670-Carburetor-air-vent-system Thanks for all you do for us!
  23. It has been a bit sleepy in there lately. But then you never know when a crowd will show up. I have had some projects going on so I am not getting in there till a bit later.
  24. That black canister on the left side next to the carbs that you mentioned. If it is what I think you are describing then you have a California bike. That is extra emissions crap that is needed only for the Republic of California. There should never be gas in that canister and the canister is sealed so even if gas did get in there it should not leak out. You may have gas dripping onto the back side of that canister and then dripping off the front side so that it looks like that is where it is coming from. I never traced out the plumbing to that canister to see if there is even a place where gas could possibly get into it. One of these days I am going to figure out how to replumb everything so I can get rid of that black canister, it is always in the way when working on that side of the bike.
  25. Preventive maintenance is something you do to prolong life of something. The insurance companies are hoping that you will die of something quick before they have to lay out big money for something. Once you reach a certain age you are more expensive than the premiums that you are paying in. Insurance companies do not like that.
