87 Royale Carbs
Patch replied to Poppa Phill's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
At the back of the manual you will find ELEC chapter 7, the chapter has diagrams and procedures, at the bottom of each page you will see first the chapter # then the page # That said and referring to the test in question there is a simple gadget available thru most auto centers call a "spark gap tester" less then $10.00 or use a screwdriver grounded to the engine then placed in front of the cap as you spin the engine (set to run) guess at the length of ark jumping to ground... The easy way is to use the tester gadget I mentioned.. It quickly proves the ignition system! Keep in mind this this bike is setup with a wasted spark ignition when firing compression stroke it also fires one of to exhaust stroke, save on parts but, pairs the firing sequence, wins and losses just like the rest of life Dust off the multi meter change battery... you will likely need it -

A couple things I'd consider: First remember seafoam in the tank, in a bike that hasn't run, with some unknowns; is a slower burn, when it comes to cold ignition.. 1150 rpm then stalls: from here it sounds like she is firing on 2 jugs only. I am a believer in the spark gap testing before playing in the carbs; it simply helps me put together a better overall plan! You can use a grounded screwdriver if you haven't the tool.. Compression on a long time parked engine will not be all inclusive yet is sound practice. I very rarely do a wet test anymore!! We have a thread which gives some of my old projects tricks, even if the test shows low do not give up or lift the heads until you at least try the ( a case for fogging ) tricks.. Expect of course some rust on face and seats, but remember they rotate at rpm so with some luck they will once again seal after the heavy lifting is completed We'll stay tuned in to the project and input as wanted, if you suspend the project then please let us know. -

OH Brothers, leave it to the Canadians to forkup a perfectly fare question/opinion request:duck:

I shave mine, it has been freeing! The girls often ask this of me, "can I touch your head" being a gent I wait shyly to see what they reach for. I figure if girls can brag about being bra-less I can chill and stay hairless

Doing some proofing and what I enjoy about this version is the sound quality... Others may see something else but, it is Sunday after all

If I may on more for the seed and that next bend in the road:
-
I have been collecting new clips for the thread, just been a touch buys of late... But seeing as it is Sunday how about a little gospel inspiration in the form of what caring for another is when expressed by King Elvis

How about we sweeten the words a bid Carl

Was just sitting back enjoying the peace and quiet that seems all around me today. Man is a strange creation. Seems to me there are times we evolve rapidly, times when we just coast and times when we become destructive. The moments we live in and through are often filled with noise, kayos, confusion, doubt, violence, and plain old ugliness. But those moments when viewed through the eyes of history seem to educate those that dare to look back enhancing strengths. That hidden seed that when faced with few alternatives some how forces us to dig a little deeper, join forces, pull together and make right the wrongs the best we can. It takes thought and coming together, just as import to understand the why's that bind or divide. Similar beliefs are not uncommon though often times lead to apposing outcomes so why? And time has a way of smoothing the wrinkles out true but at what costs. I remember some very dark days, I was for all intensive purposes between some wear and nowhere: and, someone said to me "you are exactly where you are suppose to be, at this time in your life". Tho I was completely stunned at the time in hearing those words, that person was right! These days I take comfort in Newton's 3rd Law, though, not written for personal balance I have accepted that he and his gifts were given or meant to be applied in times, where light is a hard thing to find. It has become my fallback rule, just believing that there is a natural Law that says things will balance, a correction is always going come, works for me The spooky part though is knowing history tends to repeat its mistakes when vigilance sleeps... We must first remember to think before we cheer agreeing to preaching from slick fork tongues. It is an opinion of what I have encountered most when reading history, they follow the wrong leaders and stop thinking for themselves; moving as a collective yet not fully understanding why. Hope this sharing wasn't too deep... Better days just around the next bend in the road.

For what its worth maybe future members reading thru and from here anyways, emulsion tubes gummed up Sea Foam is a passive product when it comes to carbs, works very well tho in the crankcase. -

While reading the forum I found another thread of yours where you mention misfiring. This answer would help us better understand what is the problem at 65. Take it to 4th, and ride it to the 65 MPH, hold it there in 4th a couple of minutes, how does it behave? Next see if she will go past that 65 to whatever you feel most comfortable at, for a couple minutes then note that. At both marks note the position roughly as it pertains to throttle twist. Do you know how to do that? 2 pieces of tape, one fallows the grip, the other is stationary on the grip mount. Make one mark throttle at rest, the second one, throttle wide open, find the middle make a 3rd mark, and that is all you need to do! Then report back with the throttle position you noted (approx) at which speed you develop the issue and in which rear... (we are looking for 4th gear results) That will at least inform us at what angle the throttle plate is and which circuit may be the issue? It could also direct us away from the carbs? -
I think insurance here In Canada would go nuts, if that were the case

Hi Phil, Thanks for finding the post glad you mentioned your situation. If I ted last week if you haven't found may suggest you repost this in the thread you started last week if you haven't found the solution here in this thread. I know OP here still has some questions to post/work thru it could get confusing You could just use the cut and paste short cut... or maybe Marcarl can wave his wand and POOF? -

Perfect timing! The other day I dropped my marbles (actually my brother cut the seam and they just fell out!) So lets deal with 5th gear: if you are shifting correctly then you power on in one gear down regardles of which ever gear you are cruising. 5th is an overdrive or final gear, if you go past 5th then of course you will find the elusive reverse gear! Here's the important piece of information: Yamaha did not miscalculate the 5th gear ratio; it is set for lite acceleration but primarily for distance/range which translates to miles per gallon or H.W. tank rang! When you are running all 4 Jugs within there specified bench marks then the contribution per cylinder will provide the torque thru the crank output - to leverage the 5th gear! That assumes the bike/mass is traveling at the correct speed for 5th, above 55 MPH. If on the other hand one or more cylinders is not contributing enough to crank torque THEN you will see its effects as the 5th gear ratio reverses effort or becomes dominant! That is how it works to dispel the myths resounding 5th. "then when I go into 5th it runs like it's starving for fuel!! 65mph is top speed! " this has nothing to do with fuel pilot/mixing screws! BUT it may have to do with throttle position sensor? It is possible the unit has a flat spot. If the bike is running out of fuel then the bike should kick a bit in high gear! I tired to keep it as simple as possible it is what it is, Carl! Let us know if you need more help Flash. cedoo post is on the right track but if as he mentions you can sustain rpm in 4 the then likely the problem lies above as mentioned! -

Patch replied to Jr Rides's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
red blue wire from the class connector - read the voltage 12 ish? w/b & y/b same thing look for 5 ish Volts Page 7 - 111 -
You might consider bring it to a small machine shop for repair.

This reminds me of the Grandmother thread when Puc and I started debating religion...lol (remember Dad?) Anyways it was to ask the question of what stories were told to you by your Grandmother? Mine told me a lot about her time and her husband away in both wars...

Class system, compressor not coming on
Patch replied to Jr Rides's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Know its a pain but, I would run 12 volts to the compressor directly to see if the motor works! if so then you know there is a broken wire or connection. But check the class fuse first -
