DMW Posted March 7, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2015 I have used the pureone PL14612 filter for 5 years. Chanced oil and filter this week cranked and let it idle for a minute or so, saw no leak at first, then oil leak at filter. Was tight, found that the filter was bottom out and not sealing. Removed and noted that the center was not concave as previous was. Went to parts house and checked the others in stock. They had the same problem. Went with the fram for now, no leak. Be cautious!! N3FOL Posted March 7, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 7, 2015 Hmmm. Sounds like Purolator had changed the design of the filter? Am I right?
seabeetom Posted March 9, 2015 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2015 Howard, For your consideration; I have been using Purolator PL14610 for several years now. Have also used Amzoil EAOM103 and Yamaha 5GH13440 on my 08 RSV. No problems. For oil I use Mobil 1 15-50.
aharbi Posted March 9, 2015 Share #6 Posted March 9, 2015 That's all I use on two of my bikes. I have three new ones at home. Never had a problem. I'll look at them and post a picture.

Du-Rron Posted March 11, 2015 Share #12 Posted March 11, 2015 They are both the same except the yellow filter has a silicone anti drain back valve. L14612 = Nitrile PL14612=Silicone ... both short filter L14610 = Nitrile PL14610=Silicone ... both long filters
eagleeye Posted March 11, 2015 Share #13 Posted March 11, 2015 They are both the same except the yellow filter has a silicone anti drain back valve. So, is that a good thing? And do I want it for my bike?
djh3 Posted March 11, 2015 Share #14 Posted March 11, 2015 Well needed to get oil and filter for scoot. I was looking up deals as I got a new e-mail from Autozone. They have rotella t6 @ same price as wally world. So I went there and got my oil, and picked up a bosch filter too. Oh and there is a $5 mail in rebate to boot, so its even cheaper folks. Du-Rron Posted March 12, 2015 Share #15 Posted March 12, 2015 The silicone valve would be an "upgrade" from the nitrile, and would last longer for 7500 - 10000 mile oil changes that cars are doing nowadays. The nitrile one will get stiff (stiffer) if ran that long. For a 4K oil change 2 or three times a year on the bike, I think the nitrile one would be fine. If you are just an occasional rider (some folks only put 1K miles a year on their bikes) and leave the oil in for a really long time, then I would get the silicone one because it will stand "age" better. Either is fine really. I myself am driving a lot now and I use the silicone one, just because psychologically it makes me feel better and I have a Parts America 5 miles from my house. I could get my wife to pick me up a Nitrile L14612 when she goes to Wally-World, but she won't get any parts for me anymore, because last time I sent her to the parts store to get "Spark Plugs" for my diesel. They all had a good laugh.
