Hello all, I am a new member and looking for some help. I have a 2005 Royal Star Tour DLX. Love this machine just looking for more POWER. I have been told I can have the engine pumped up to the VMAX power. Can someone please advise me as to what has to be done to do this and a ball park as to what it would cost and a good place to have it done around the Toronto Ontario Canada area or anywhere near. Thanks ever so much in advance.

Yes the upgrade can be done but is very expensive.

 

First question; Is this bike new to you?

 

Are you getting the power out of it that is already there?

What speeds are you shifting at?

 

It is very common for new owners of these bikes to complain about lack of power, usually it is because they are trying to ride it like a Harley. If you are not hitting the rev limiter, your not making power.

Dave,

As Jeff mentioned engine upgrades will be expensive. I know of a few 2nd gen Royal Stars that have gone to the expense of installing Vmax cams in their engines, but thats not cheap. Depending on how your shifting, you might not be getting the most out of the engine.

 

These bikes like high revs, the factory rev limiter is at about 6500 rpms. This can be changed with the install of a Dana 3000 ignition which will allow you to raise the rev limiter to 7500 rpms and advance the timing curves. Depending upon how you ride the bike and if you'll be pulling a trailer a Vmax or FJR 1300 rearend will give you a bit more off the line performance.

 

Making absolute sure that the carbs are set up properly and tuned right will make a big difference. Just a couple things to think about before you start jumping into the engine :2cents:

If you do the Dyna 3000, (or is someone else has it), let me know what you think. I'm thinking I might do that before summer just to get more revs out of it.

 

I've had the Dyna installed for 4 years now in ours. Wouldn't look back, I'd be doing it again in a heartbeat. Changes this machine big time......literally walks over an identical venture without it. Yup, buddy of mine had the same bike and he couldn't believe the difference between the two after the Dyna install in ours.

I'm curious. I've been thinking about installing a 3000 in the '99... as soon as I come up with some spare change... :) I've looked at Dyna-Tek's web site, Ebay, as well as others, an keep coming up with two different pics for the 3000. One has a two port plugin and the other has three. Yet they are both listed as fitting the RSV. Is this just a case where one pic fits all, and what I'd get will be right?? Or.... have they changed configurations?? The reason I'm a little gun shy on which one is correct is I remember one of our members buying a used TCI off an Ebay seller and it came with two ports and he needed three... or visa versa.

Usually the seller on e-bay will say up front which model fits which bike. There are modules for just about every bike out there. I'll go out to the garage and see if I can find my old one....the one in my garage is the 3 port, and my venture is a 2004...I am assuming that yours will be the same, as they changed the model in 1999. Someone else will jump in and verify this I'm sure.

This sounds like a great start can anyone advise me as to which Dyna I wouold require for my 2005 RSTD. And thanks alot to all of you for your kind help
