I lost one of the clips that hold the side panel in place. The rubber and metal thing that holds the side panel down??? Does Yamaha still have this things listed?? Can they begotten?? Or has someone come up with a better way to secure these things. Any Ideas? joe:fishin:

You can still get these from Yamaha. I personally use Partshark for a lot my parts. But Rick at Buckeye Performance also has Yamaha parts. Here is the part number and prices from Partshark.

one of mine broke so I inststalled a zip tie. Started off doing it the inconspicuous way by wrapping it around the tab and keeping it hid from sight, now I just loop it over the outside. Unless you are looking I doubt you'd notice.

sounds better than the solution the guy I bought my 83 from was using....he had the side cover and lower faring taped with clear tape!

If the bike is well shined you can hardly see it!

I'll be ordering a PLASTEX repair kit and trying that out to replace some of the tabs and grommets on the plastic.

One of my side panels is missing the rubber thing too. RandyA suggested to try using industrial strength velcro and it worked great. I'm also using it on some of the panels where the tabs have come off. They've held great for about 1500 miles so far.

Talk about helpful. Thanks to all. I started out with Rick at Buckeye. Found out that I have a credit that I forgot about. When you send the old stator back, don't forget about the core credit. I had enough for two. One to replace and one for later. Thanks to all for the help. joe:bluesbrother:

I used nothing when mine broke and got lost,,,,, so now it's easier to remove the panels,,,, and so far I have not had an issue with them flapping or threatening to go for a hay ride. But that's just me and my scoot, and I only have one,,,,,,,

I lost one of my bands.

I found it wedged between the engine and exhaust pipe. I do not think there is enough room for it to possibly fall out of where it was. It took a lot of looking with a small inspection mirror to spot it. It was not visible from any direction without the mirror. I had to use a bent up coat hanger and the mirror to fish it out.
