september ride

hi folks

back at the '09 international rally i meet two new vr riders from baton rouge,la. deeta & joe. i told them about a ride i had been thinking of, to the tobasco plant in new iberia, louisiana, where the hot sauce is made. it is about a 4-5 hr trip from houston. i have only been there by tugboat to pick up salt for barges for the winter road use. i thought this would be a great way to have a m&e with our fellow v/r riders from the great state of louisiana. i would plan on this around the 26'th of september '09. i'll put this out there for everyone's thoughts. on their web site i saw were you can buy a GALLON JUG of tobasco sauce, just found out they now offer a tabasco brand soy sauce, hot da--. :witch_brew: www.tabasco.com.

Make sure you folks bring your appetite.....The food they cook there is pretty darn good I garontee! Authentic Cajun cuisine at its finest.....at least it was when we spent the day there a few years back.

Boomer.....who knows good Cajun food will give you miles of extra "gas". :rotf:

hi dale

been looking forward to meeting up with you. i know this is sort of back to back, but not everyone will go to both. this is after the cody roundup also. but i have not seen anything for a m&e in louisiana before. so its time to plan something. i plan on doing both, good lord willing & the creek doesn't rise.

Thanks for the offer gunboat but I have my own stash of that great hot sauce. I may be miles from home but relatives do send me "care packages" from my home State.

Those two things dont get mixed much when it comes to cajun food done by a real cajun............I know, my wife and I are from S. Louisiana and she dont cook nuthin bad............

There are many good things to see and do while you are down there, wish I could make it but I am out of vacation time. You will really enjoy the tour of the Tabasco plant. I saw it many years ago. Its off the beaten path but well worth the ride.

About 18 years ago, I had to make a pickup there, it was a load of Tabasco going overseas to the Middle East, the Gulf War had just started and they were shipping it over for our service men and women. It was aprox 24,000 lbs of that sauce. I got a personal tour of the facility while I waited for them to load my truck..........very cool place.

Hey Gunboat.

Are you still working on the boats? I've made that salt mine trip a few times myself back in my younger days. Now I work primaryly on the Mississipi River. In fact I am in Davenport IA now, heading for St Paul where it is getting REAL cool...:bang head: :bang head: :bang head:

I would like to come down and make that tour with you. I've seen the pepper fields, but never the production plant.

Go figure, you would remember my wife's name - lol. :stickpoke:It is Joe not John. No worries, you are not the first person to get my name wrong. :puzzled: Looks like it may be a fun trip. At work presently, need to check the calendar and with the boss about the date. Look forward to it.

Not a prob Don. It was good for a laugh for Deeta and I :hurts:. We are going to try our best to attend, but we may have a chance to see our youngest niece and nephew (twins) that weekend. Don't get the chance often enough, so that is the priority. But, and we have our fingers crossed that they are going to do that a different weekend.

Don wish I could make it but I have to sit this one out. My left knee is still swollen like a grape fruit from the ST. Jude run and being that far down there for me, I dint see it happening anytime soon. Sorry maybe next year if you have another run or something I'll have more time from work and my Knees wont be so bad?

Taking a pill and try to get some sleep.

later Don Take care, hope to see you soon:).....
