Folding backrest for stock seats?

Is there such a thing out there?

 

I sold my RoadSofa and got some pillow tops. I think I miss the backrest but don't want a fixed one. Is there a folding one out there?

Monsta - I'm not sure what you mean by a folding backrest but -- I have the Utopia drivers backrest and love it. It folds forward for easy access for the passenger, is great support for the driver, and with the quick release, it can be removed by simple pulling it out of the sleeve. In seconds I can just ride without.

The DiamondR back rest folds forward so that it is well out of the passenger's way. No quick release. No drilling.

I've got the Diamond R too. Like some people here I had a bit of trouble getting is adjusted back far enough. Also there are two screws that lock the height adjustment that kept coming loose. I replaced those with stainless bolts from the local hardware store and used a bit of locket. Now I wouldn’t trade it for another. It is a good match to the pillow upholstery and sure helps my back.

Just got mine from Diamond R a few weeks ago and love it. Takes 15 minutes to put it on! Good fit and very well made!

Get the one from DiamondR - I love mine. They have a nice one that matches the pillow top seats perfectly.

I looked at the DiamondR one last night. Must be nice to have that kind of money fellas.

 

I almost crapped my pants when I saw how much they wanted just to hold up my back! I only paid $300 for BOTH seats! $200+ is just too much for what you get. A majority of DiamondR's items are overpriced, IMHO. Heck... to be fair, I guess that can be said for most motorcycle accessories, though.

Has anyone tried one of these backrests? Don't know if it folds out of the way or if it's adjustable but the cost is manageable.

the pad is really small and it DOES NOT fold out of the way.

Yes, Diamond R and Utopia are a little too proud of their backrests. There a real nice one from Custom World International too, but it's even more. This one has a lot better price to be sure. I'd like to see more pictures of the thing, one from the back. It doesn't look like it's adjustable either. But I suppose once you bend the bracket or space the pad to where you want it, it doesn't need any more adjustment anyway.

Myself I have the one from Diamond R. Have been very satisfied with it. It's been on my bike since August 04.

Remember you get what you pay for. Diamond R the best for the price my partner has had 2 of them differant bikes (star4772) I think most of you know him.

I have the Diamond R backrest and really enjoy it. The price is not bad considering the prices of other motorcycle parts and acessories these days. It was very easy to install and made real nice.

They are very similar but certainly not the same. Diamond R does manufacture their own.

The Diamond R made more differance in the comfort than I ever expected.I have had several people ask about them.They are expensive but I feel they are worth it.

I have the Utopia backrest and wouldn't ride without it. I don't have the quick release model but I don't plan on taking it off anyhow. It being able to fold down for ease of passenger mounting/dismounting is nice. Makes it much more easy for the Mrs. getting off & on. As to adjusting the backrest angle I do that all the time as some times I like to lean back a bit more or if the back is acting up I might sit a bit more upright.

Bottom line it's worth the costs to me.

I have the saddlemens seat for my 1st gen its is fairly comfortable, but it does seem to push me forward on to the tank after a while. The fold down backrest is nice and comfortable but to be honest I dont use it too much as us old fat guys have trouble getting that leg over another couple of inches of height, so I only use it on longer trips.

After having purchased one of the "garage built" E-Bay backrests for my C90 Boulevard, I decided that my back was worth the extra money so I put a Bakup backrest on my RSTD. I can honestly say that it was well worth the extra $$$ and it will take many miles off my back on the long distance hauls.

Haven't seen much written about the Bakup brand here in the forums so I figured I would throw my 2 cents out there.

I have the Utopia. It cost less than the Diamond. I love it.

I chose the DiamondR because of the way it attaches. No drilling involved. It shares the passenger seat bolts (longer bolts supplied).
