  3. The first thing to check is the battery. Take it to an Autozone or auto parts store and load test it. Even if it checks proper voltage that doesn't mean it will supply a load.

  5. Thanks I've been checking threads here for a little while. Since I purchased the 2008 RSV
  6. I just acquired this bike and it ran last year. Now I hit the starter button (key on) and nothing. Not even a click. With the key on, I have power to all 4 smaller wires at the solenoid. Hit the start button and no change. Something has to ground the relay. I've searched threads and didn't find one that had the location of the starter circuit cut-off relay. A lot of talk about it but no location. From what I've read it may have the fuel pump relay as part of it. I have the manual and the wiring diagram is too hard to follow. I found a simplified starting diagram but can't find a relay anywhere with the wire colors it shows for the cut-off relay. I'd attach a clip of the diagram that I have, but I can't figure out how, lol.

  10. Thank you Ronnie for those kind words. I was the one that benefitted most from the wonderful lunch talk we had. It is great to meet other riders and enjoy the time with them. I am going to try a short ride Sunday to see if I can ride comfortably and maybe be able to ride down to the get together at KenLake. I'll let you know how it goes. Steve.
  11. Looks like a good plan. Let us know how it works! Necessity being the mother of invention and a small budget helps to think outside the box!

  14. Use the spay carb cleaner rather than the stuff similar to sea foam that’s designed to go in the tank?
  15. Will be sanding down the excess cement
  16. Found a replacement Y pipe but was almost $300can. Phantom Wife said I've spent enough for now SO I went to Canadian Tire and picked up an adapter piece 4" long and 1 1/2 in Dia. which I was able to tap into original pipe with muffler cement and seems to be very tight and with where pipes are supported it should be OK. Will wait till tomorrow and put it back together to see if it works. If not will pull back off and try to weld. Thanks for your help, will let you know how it goes!
  17. I am looking for pictures of this adapter/relocation bar etc. These older forums are great to search for newbies as myself, but where the pictures at? Cheers, Eric '05 RSTD
  18. Finally got to meet Steve S today, my plan was to buy him lunch and barrage him with questions about his back surgery experience since I’m facing one soon. Instead he beat me to the register and paid for my lunch and helped me to feel a lot more comfortable about the surgery. He and his wife spent an hour and a half talking about bikes and experiences with me. Another great VR member. Thanks Steve.
  19. If you can find a piece of copper pipe to use as a backer while welding it up it’ll hold your weld. Then pull the copper out when finished.
  20. If you can’t get a replacement part reasonably priced, could you sleeve the inside and then have more material to work with when you weld it?
  21. I've got a left side rear header pipe. Shipping to Canada would be stupid but it's here if you can't work anything else out.
  22. Sorry I left out what I was thinking of writing. I thought I said it was the Y pipe that is rusted off(muffler is OK)just at edge of muffler where it goes into muffler.
  23. If it's the muffler you need I might know one. Even close handie.
  24. Wish you were close by. I have a set of mufflers that came with my bike, too loud for me.
  25. I don't see an issue with welding it, but I'd think there's a pretty good chance someone on this site will have a muffler they could part with. I'd wait and see before going through the PITA of trying to weld a rusted muffler.
