I own a 07 RSTD. I would do what ever it takes to get it running. With that milage I would ride it. I have 124,000 on mine it still runs great.

At 40 years on, they're getting rare ! Wasn't me ! Still enjoy mine. Gotta get that 4 brush starter motor, though. The original just won't spin it hard enough anymore.

Carb cleaning, check tank for rust, check/flush all fluids at a minimum. It all depends on the price and how much work you’re willing to do. Check date codes on the tires.

Congrats to both of you!!

I'm looking at a 2005 Royal star, problem is it has sat a couple of years. Put a new battery in it and it turned over but wouldn't start, we took off air cleaner and sprayed just a touch of starting fluid into it and it started. I'm wondering what problems I might be looking at in getting it running correctly. It has 45000 miles on it and seems to have been taken pretty good care of before he was unable to ride anymore. I'm trying to decide if it would be worth considering it or not. Thanks for any advice

Thanks guys! Yes! Much to his mother's chagrin, I'm already looking at starter dirt bikes for him! Though for now, he's really stealing MY riding time! But it's definitely worth it!

It only takes once!

Hate to be "that guy" but, I have never shut off the petcock on my '06 RSV and never had a problem with fuel smell or hydro lock. Maybe just lucky? (maybe just stupid 🤪).

It is with a heavy heart that I received notice that Reggieman was killed in a motorcycle accident. His membership had expired here but he was well known and loved by many. Please keep his wife and family in your prayers.

Nah, it's the factory one. My silly @$$ trusted Google AI when it said it had a vacuum actuated petcock. Sounded legit for a feature laden tourer from 07, but alas, there is some serious old school tech on these bikes. I did find elsewhere on here the model petcock i can get to add a vacuum actuated one. Its not a big deal to flip the thing on and off, but ill probably have that on my project list. Just seems proper for it to have one. So, proper use of the petcock will likely clear up my gas smell problem, lol. Thanks!

Hey all, I have done some searches on this topic but many are rather old. I am pretty sure what I have here is a stock seat on an '08 RSV. Its showing wear on the seams and I know I'm gonna get a wet Butte eventually. Are there good aftermarkets out there that are good for just the driver seat. Should I just take it to an upholsterer? Its still really comfortable, especially with the adjustable backrest. (Dont get me started on the stock V-Star seat on my 07 1100, those SUCK)

New guy here, but I JUST finished a full rebuild on my 08 Venture due to a leaking seat. To confirm, I pulled the carb set and bench tested it with a test tank in the garage rafters for a couple PSI fuel pressure. Sure enough, one of the 4 started dripping out of the overflow tubes. I wont tell you its fun rebuilding these, far from it. Each carb is relatively simple to clean especially if you have a ultrasonic cleaner OR buy a few cans of carb cleaner! Putting them back together as an assembly, that's the chore! Its nice to have an extra set of hands or some zip ties for temp holding as you need to engage like 4 contact points while getting the butterfly valve actuators under an itty bitty spring. Critical to have a carb sync gauge set too.
