  1. Past hour
  2. I've never done anything like that. Truly impressive. Congrats!
  3. I will agree on avoiding high-output stators. I got like 5k miles on mine. I was then frustrated and bought a 30 dollar one from Amazon and got like 20k or more miles out of it. Now I'm running a Rick's stator. 10-15k miles on it so far and working good. We'll see how long it lasts.
  4. Today
  5. I’ve got 90k miles on the OEM and counting. If it fries I figure one more OEM will last the rest of my life, small investment for that many miles.
  6. So how long did it last? what if any addition load do you have that draws from the battery. (Extra lights, upgraded audio, heated clothing.) I realize that aftermarket in this case is much, much cheaper and OEM is crazy high price but are these aftermarkets absolutely junk but they seem to sell them every day. I am looking at a new stator - gasket - and Rectifier and dealer quote is $595.44 including tax. Don't think i will go that route so looking at aftermarket even if it lasts a few years.
  7. ricks sell alot of chinese parts. i put one in from them and it didn't last very long. FYI
  8. Hey guys! Friday I took off from Omaha, Nebraska and road down Highway 75 to Tahlequah, Oklahoma. I then went southeast to Van Buren, Arkansas, and then from Van Buren to Crescent Iowa on I40 to I49 to I29. (I went to crescent because I was going to be about 8 miles short for the full 1000 miles). I took off at about 3:15AM and got home a little after 10:00PM. It was 102 degrees in Omaha that day, and low to mid-90s in Oklahoma and Arkansas and muggy. I could have done it a little faster, but I took more breaks because of the heat. I had a tremendous headwind going south and an even stronger tail wind going home. If you've never been on I49 coming north from Fayetteville, it is a beautiful stretch of interstate. The 1988 Yamaha Venture, of course, performed flawlessly. I got poor mileage on the way down and great mileage on the way up! My start mileage was 104,331.8 and my ending mileage was 105,344.4. I still have to get the paperwork sent in to be verified
  9. Rick's was a good choice as well. Know that the present stator will fail sometime down the road, especially if you load it with more than stock or run the battery down regularity.
  10. RM? I see a lot of Ricks, some OEM and some OEM used. Caltric seems to be all over the place...(cheap) Cheap seems nice as an emergency spare, but I've been burnt by Mr. Cheap a few times. Again, just as an emergency spare I don't know if I should spring for the extra $$$ just for the piece of mind. I'm so confused....
  11. I asked a Yamaha rep about those pieces one day at Bike week in Daytona Beach, he told me the left one was designed to deflect gas away from the hot exhaust in the event the tank was over filled. He got a little upset with me when I pointed out to him that their display bike had the left and right sides swapped. He scurried right over to bike to confirm and then found a tech to fix it. Anyway I see no reason why you cannot remove it if it bothering you. I remember burning my legs on those round guard rails they had on the original Royal Stars heads.
  12. RM stator used to have good reviews, don't know if they are still around though. https://www.rmstator.com/
  13. Never mind, I thought of that first!!
  14. Looks to be a heat deflector, but seeing as you are now old enough not to be producing as much heat as to when you were of a younger age it probably won't effect the engine at all. Or you could just cut part of it off and have a unique look to you machine.

  16. This has been bothering me since I bought the bike and now is the time to address it. Left side of seat there is a bracket that extends past the base of the seat. This bracket is a pain in my thigh.. Can anyone tell me if it is required or can i remove it? It is mounted with 2 screws that are removable and aren't holding anything else.
  17. Bought a used 2007 rsv and there are some parts that are missing that I am looking to put back on it one is the stereo controls that mount to the handlebar previous owner removed tourpack cut wires off that went to your pack and apparently removed the stereo controller as well just seeing if anyone out there has one sitting around from a scrapped out one maybe
  18. I can supply you with an 86 if you want to try it. 🤣
  19. Here is a link to one article about one of the converted Royal Stars, but not a Venture model. https://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/custom-yamaha-royal-star-with-heart-v-max-from-archives/
  20. No, I will stick with this.
  21. I would stay away from the high output stators, I put one in my first 1999 venture. I replaced the engine after only about 10,000 miles and when I checked the stator it had burned half of the stator, looked as bad as the one that I replaced with at least 70,000 miles on it. Higher output equals more heat.
  22. Last week
  23. In the 80's, I had the magazine containing the article with the first conversion that I had heard of creating the Venture Max. Unfortunately, the memory chip in my brain has deleted what magazine issue it was from. Can anyone help an old guy out?
  24. stay away from the chinese crap! your better off to pay a little more for us stuff or mother yamaha stuff. i've not had much luck lately with china crap! just my opinion!🤔
  25. Ya don't see that everyday. Someone had a first gen and too much time on their hands. Not diggin' it.
  26. Truly unique.
  27. Nope. I don't need a stator, at least not yet. I was thinking of getting a replacement stator / gasket to keep handy in case of failure, which seems to sometimes happen, and usually at a bad time. I see there's stators readily available online, but prices are all over the map. What should I look for and what should I avoid? Opinions appreciated.
  28. Hmmmmmm. Not even sure what I think.
