Just refilled my old 83 with gas and upon returning home to garage discovered gas leak. It is a 'pressure' gas leak that goes away when bike is turned off. The bike starts up and runs great but once started gas leaks out below just forward of fuel pump. I checked the pump and hoses and it appears to be coming from up in the upper area of bike around gas tank and carb area. I sure hope the plastic gas tank hasn't cracked, (or) it could be a hose problem. I can't figure out how to check where the output of the fuel pump joins the engine. Anyone else ever have this problem? Just a bit too unsafe to ride to shop, if I can't resolve it, may have to call for a tow..gas hitting those hot mufflers is too risky. Thanks James

Hello All, Iam getting my carbs in shape on my '87. In the process of cleaning, testing etc., I wanted to make sure the floats and needles seem to be working right so I took each carb, put it in a shallow tub and hooked it up to the fuel pump on the bike, with the float bowl cover off, to see that the float would, in fact, float an shut fuel off. OK, I assumed the the fuel pump would just pump, and pump until the float shut the fuel off. Is there any reason why I would have to turn the key off, and then turn it on again to get the pump to pump a little more. It will pump for about 5 seconds and then turn off, until I turn the key off and then turn it on again. If this is a normal function, maybe a safety feature since the bike is not running or something than all and well, but if there is a problem with the fuel pump, or something, I just wan to know. Thanks a bunch D

Well, got my horn installed this weekend. Sounds 1000 times better than the stock. I noticed on one of the install pdf files that someone posted that they say (right under the photo of the horn) that the air inlet (the nipple that you had to insert into the side of the air pump housing) must face to the rear or be routed to the rear with a plastic hose. This is so the dirt and debris can't get into the air pump. This sounds like a very important thing to do as, with it in the position in which most of us have installed the horn, it is very much exposed to dirt, debris, rain etc. How many of you have actually done this with theirs? I've attached a copy of the pdf file.

I just bought a hand pump for checking automotive cooling systems for leaks and I think it could double as a Venture suspension or tire pump with some easy modifications. All that would be needed is a hose end that would thread on to a schrader valve (from an old bicycle tire pump) and a 60 lb. gauge. These pumps are well made from brass and would last a long time. They are a little large for taking along on the bike but it could be done. I got this one at Princess Automotive (Canada) for $59.95 and I'm sure Harbour Freight would probably sell the same one for much less in U.S. $$.

I ordered the CyclePump that is supposed to be the best air pump on the market. It cost me $100.00 plus the shipping. Saturday morning I checked my tires before a trip and I had 35 lbs in the front tire. I got out my cycle pump and was going to increase it to 40 lbs. When I turned on the pump the pressure went from 35 lbs down to 30 lbs. I was checking to make sure all the connections were good when the pump quit working. I plugged it into my car cigarette lighter and it worked fine, so I knew I had blown the auxiliary dc terminal fuse. The fuse for that terminal is a 5A. I replaced it with another 5A and when I turned on the pump it immediately blew that fuse. I got the instructions and read them and it says the cyclepump requires a 10-15A outlet. Would it hurt anythig if I changed the 5A fuse to a 10A? Thanks for your help.

After some help from my brother, a Honda rider (oh well, some day he'll convert) I was able to come up with a new fuel pump. It is made by masters and is item #e8055 . It is available at Advance Auto for $62.00 including tax. It does take some modification to the bracket that it comes with and a little fudging but it is in and seems to work great so far. It looks exactly like the original but it is about 1/4 inch bigger in diamater. I'll try to attach a pic. and see what happens. It puts out 3psi which from what I can gather is what the original puts out. Feel free to ask any questions that you may have and I will try to help. Update by Freebird. The linked information for this was outdated and no longer worked. The only fuel pump I find with this part number is Airtex. I hope it's the same one. If not, let me know and I'll remove this information. http://www.amazon.com/Airtex-E8055-Electric-Fuel-Pump/dp/B002XK172K
