Could a few of you with the Mk1 (early model) Ventures, please do some electrical readings at the headlight plug. What I am trying to determine, is mine the only one with power on the low beam, in addition to the high beam. With my results below, no wonder my high beam is so bright. I want to install a headlight modulator / relay on my 83VR. It works great on the low beam side, but have nothing on high beam due to excessive low beam voltage also present, shutting the unit off. I have tested the unit on another bike (83 750 Maxim) & it works great. My Voltage readings was as follows, at the bikes headlight plug. Switch on Low Beam Low output 11.8V High output 3.58V Switch on High Beam Low output 10.54V High output 11.49V I probably should look inside the switch, as well, to check things there too.

Hi, Headlight on 83 VR used to work ....both high and low beam, stopped working on high this fall , therefore high beam warning lite stays on.... I'm assuming switch on left handlebar might be bad... Not the greatest light beam now..., but I am going to look at painting inside of headlight cover as suggested and I'm replacing driving lights soon too... Still a well functioning high beam would be nice... Anyone had to replace switch???? Running wires as well as choke cable look interesting ..... Clay

I need some suggestions.......I wish to install a passing light kit or lights or whatever on my bike. I normally do not use them as I run on high beam with a modulator during daylight hours and in most states to have the passing lights on with the high beam is illegal. But I do get caught out after dark on occasion.....and would like to know.....what lights light up the road? I want something that will light up a football field!! I do not run heated clothing...and will have only one other accessory, a GPS.......So what lights are the most powerful......and where can I purchase them. Thanks

The Yamaha passing lamps were already installed on the 05 venture I purchased. I have some questions still after reading previous posts. 1. The lamps have a toggle switch to kill them completely if desired but are on when the high beam light is on and off when low beam is on. My mechanic just told me that this was illegal in VA. Do you run the passing lamps at the same time as the high beam? or Should I rewire them? 2. One of bulbs is burnt out, what is the best replacement bulb? Is there one brighter than stock and where is the best place to get them? Also, is there a brighter alternative to the headlight bulb while I'm at it? 3. Where can I find a spacer for the passing lamps to get them out from the fairing? I followed a link in a previous post and it said none were available via the classifieds. Thanks

ADJUSTING THE HEADLAMP 1. Put yourself on the scooter and position it upright, i.e., riding position. Have the other person measure from the center of the headlamp to the floor of your garage. 2. Measure off 25' from the front of the lamp and draw a line (horizontally that corresponds to the floor to lamp center point) on the wall. 3. Turn your lights on and put them on high beam (not low beam). First, adjust the vertical (with your weight still on the bike) so the light is even above and below the horizontal line you drew on the wall. Then adjust the horizontal so you have an equal amount of light to the left and right of the center point. This should put you "almost perfect" on high beam and low beam. Good Luck.
