  1. Thought some would find this amazing. At about 2:45 into the video the sound you hear is just the starter for the engine
  2. I have tried your suggestions. The key does turn and have sprayed in numerous lubes with no luck. The cap will turn to the right about a quarter turn but I can't get it to come off.
  3. I have an 89 that was I guess a running project. It ran fine but cosmetically was in poor shape. I got an 86 in better shape but started the 89 a couple time a week. The starter died back in March. Well long story short I just got around to replacing the starter. The bike runs pretty good fotr sitting so long, but now I can't get the gas cap off. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks
  4. Needs a sticky or moved to tech section.
  5. The parts illustration show 3 different frame part numbers 83-85 http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/p/yamaha/41r-21110-00-33/frame-comp-26h-21110-02-33 86-87 http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/p/yamaha/1nl-21110-00-33/frame http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/p/yamaha/1nl-21110-00-33/frame 88-93 http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/p/yamaha/2wr-21110-00-33/frame-comp
  6. I have an 86 and 89. I took a look at the linkages on both and they are physically different. Take a look a parts illustration of the 2 and they are different. I thought my 86 sits high but it has the correct linkage, any thoughts. 83-87 http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/50042b00f8700209bc78972b/swing-arm 88-93 http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/5107f839f870022108d6577b/swing-arm
  7. I also have a spare set for an 83 and is done the same way.
  8. After reading one of warnings awhile back I went to see if mine was tight and it snapped with very little force. I check mine now at oil changes.
  9. Did you bleed the port near the steering head?
  10. SCI sells this kit. This is the most complete kit I've seen and not much more than gaskets and o rings. When I do my carbs next time I'll go with this and just change jets and all. http://www.siriusconinc.com/pro-detail.php?pid=&product_id=120729
  11. I believe that is an aftermarket setup. My 86 has one and they are actually turn signals and the center red is a running light.
  12. I chased this same problem for a year and it turned out that the run stop switch wasn't making good contact and needed cleaning.
  13. Check on the carb where the choke cable is secured. The metal end at the end of the black cover should fit in the cable retainer. If the end is out the choke won't stay engaged.
  14. I had owned 2 new 84 (83.5) and never got less than 40MPG.
  15. I have an 18 inch Cee Bailey windshield that I bought last year and used about a week and didn't like it, its been in the box ever since. I will part with it if you're interested, pm mail
  16. I guess you could connect the pump directly to the battery and see if it happens then. You also might want to test the boost sensor.
  17. The brake fluid light on the CMS is on, fluid levels are good and the floats move freely. In addition the icons on the CMS are very dim at night but look fine during the day. Any thoughts?
  18. Have you tried to check the voltage at the fuel pump when it bogs down.
  19. There should be enough wire to relocate it to the top of the air box.
  20. Got excited to soon. Went for a ride today and the bike stumbled when giving it throttle. I got to my destination about 6 miles and checked the pipe of the cylinder that wasn't firing before and it was barley warm. Looks like those carbs will need to come back out, looks like I did something wrong.
  21. If those are US miles you are getting less than 30 MPG. Check your rear brake caliper. Sometimes the pads wear a groove in the caliper and the pads get hung up on them and drag. If this is happening the pads will be worn uneven.
  22. When stopping and slow speed the front feels like it wants to turn on its own,not stay straight. Is this my imagination or do I have a problem?
  23. It might not be a bad idea to pull the TCI and open it to check the capacitors. Many folks here relocate them to the top of the airbox to keep them dry.
  24. Yesterday I put some Gunk fuel system cleaner and filled up and drove home about 15 miles. Today I went for a ride and still runinig the same.. While going 65 there is a slight hill. I give it a little throttle to maitain speed and bang the engine came to life with the exceration I was use to.
