Went to the docs' office today, and x-ray looked good, so the doc agreed to remove the cast on my right leg, so I can do what I need to in Sidecar Class tomorrow. It was taken off one week early, but...it appears to be fine. First thing I did when I got home today...jumped in the Hot Tub.

RR, good for you. It is always nice to get in that first ride of the year. Here's to many more miles, and smiles for you this year.

Don, you are 100 % right. I know that, and will keep my mind open.
-
Jeff, that is easy...simply put an 80 pound bag of goat feed in the sidecar:rotf:
-
Come on, Bob, you already knew that NY does things backwards from all the other states:rotf: Yeah, In Washington we can get a Class 3 endorsement...for 2 wheeled motorcycles...or a Class 5 endorsement...for trikes and Sidecars...or a Class 7 endorsement...which means I can ride 2 wheeled bikes and trikes and sidecars. A Class 7 covers it all.

Those tires may be good for slow...off road duty, but I doubt they would hold up to high speed, high-speed cornering on asphalt for very long.
-
Jeff, that is a very nice sidecar to attach to a newer Wing. I wernt with the Legend model from Champion, because I wanted an older look, retro, to look like an old Indian style sidecar.
-
Okay, since SilvrT deleted his post, I guess I have no need to respond. BTW, the answer to your question was...135k miles.

Jeff, we are getting the Champion Sidecar Co...Legend Sidecar, in all Black, to match my '06 RSMTD. I am even going to supply a 16" front wheel from a RSTD/Venture to be used on the sidecar, so that all wheels match. http://www.championsidecars.com/products.asp?scPage=3&catID=3&itemID=18 I won't get it until this next late Fall, so I can install in late Fall, and then ride it next year.

Despite my attempt to avoid going to any kind of motorcycle riding school...because I could foresee serious conflicts between my experiences, and what the instructors would be teaching in class...I now have to go to a special class that teaches people how to ride a Sidecar/Trike. In Washington State, the law says that if you want to operate a 3 wheeled Trike or Sidecar rig, you have to have a special endorsement. It is a different endorsement than for 2 wheeled motorcycles. The only way to get this endorsement for Trikes/Sidecar rigs is to attend a 2 or 3 day class, both written and riding skills tests, and if/when you pass this class, then the class will give you a certificate to show to the Dept. of Licensing, to have the endorsement added to my drivers license. I have had a motorcycle endorsement for 43 years. I have ridden sidecar rigs several times, and most recently from Prince George, B.C. up to Prudhoe bay, Alaska, and back. But I did not have the endorsement for it. That was not a problem in B.C. or Alaska (as far as I know). But in WaWa State, I have to get this endorsement. They have beginner classes, and advanced classes, but to take the advanced class...you have to supply your own rig...either trike or sidecar rig. Since I do not have my new sidecar YET...I elected to sign up for the beginner class. So, it is seriously...honestly...no joke...going to be painful for me to sit there for 2 full days and watch these instructors attempt to educate newby riders as how to ride a trike or sidecar rig. I have been practicing...not riding...but practicing keeping my mouth shut...and listening, rather than making strange faces at them. I think I am ready for this painful ordeal. I will find out Saturday morning. It is just far enough north of me, and starts at 8:00 am sharp, that I will go north tommorrow evening, stay at a motel for two nights, and attend the class all day on Saturday and Sunday. I am 100 % confident that I will pass the class...no problem ! I did not say I would ace it, but I will pass it. My only trepidation is whether or not I can keep my mouth ****, keep my opinions to myself, and be a good little boy. This same motorcycle safety instruction class has tried for many years to get me to be an instructor, but as I have told them, my experience of riding more than a million miles on the road will be much different than what they teach as riding skills, so I can see a conflict, and I choose to avoid that. This is going to be hard:depressed:

I finally decided to replace the tires on my Subaru Forester...not because they were worn out...not at all...but because they were 10 years old. I had these Toyo Ultra 800 Plus tires installed in May 2003. They have been driven for 110,000 miles. They still had an average of 4/32nds in the center tread, but...I decided to have them replaced, and bought new ones today. Now, to be fair, I should explain that I have driven this Subaru Forester 135,000 miles in the past 10 years. I also have separate Winter tires, on their own Winter wheels, so I can swap them out in my own shop usually around mid November, and then swap them back to my Summer tires and wheels in early March. But I have recorded how many miles were actually done each year...on my so-called Summer tires. And the tires I took off today had 110,000 miles on them. They were rated at 80,000 mile tires, with a treadwear rating of 700, a treadwear rating of A, and a traction rating of A. Yet, I was able to pull 110,000 miles out of these, and they still had an average of 4/32nds in the center tread. The tire store I deal with even commented that these tires were still good for use for Spring, Summer and Fall, until I pointed out that they were 10 years old. So, how did I get 110,000 miles out of a tire rated at 80,000 miles ???? I am soooooo picky about my air pressure. I rotate my tires often, and swap out the summer and winter tires as they should be. And, the vehicle is properly aligned, both front and rear. Despite the fact that 99.314159 % of all Subaru Forester's in the Great Pacific Northwest run the same tires during the entire year...and do not swap out their summer tires for winter tires, because...the Forester is an all-wheel drive vehicle all the time. But I like driving like a maniac in the snow, so I install serious snow tires, to avoid drifting...in the snow drifts. Now my new tires should last me another 10 years. The new tires have a treadwear rating of 780.

Kevin, I agree with most others that I would not worry about the mileage on it, as...that is really only equivalent to one year of serious riding. I also agree that the price can come down a little, since...as was stated, the bike has been for sale for some time now...the owner has another bike already, so he wants to unload this one...and cash in hand is always good. Offer him $ 4,500.00 cash...see what he says...and be willing to go no higher than $ 5,000.00 cash. Be firm. But...ride it home.

Barry, that is a nice idea, but here is the fly in the ointment: The MD is being held on a Saturday, and most bike shops are open on Saturday, which is a busy day for them. That means, there is a 93.14159 % chance that this good service manager is going to have to work that day. Secondly, the owner of the dealership may find it a conflict of interest to have his own service manager taking the day off of work to go help a large group of riders...away from the shop...and offer mechanical advice and assistance, whereas those same riders could bring their bikes to this owners dealership. (not that we would, but the shop owner sees it that way) Advice for Don...as a way to "sell" this to the good service manager, and to the bad dealership owner, is to convince them that this could bring better community relations between this dealership and local riders. This could be looked at as a maintenance conference away from the dealership, that...if handled correctly...could entice other riders to "some day" bring their bikes in to this dealership. Reality...all you want to do is possibly get that good service manager to attend the MD. Quite frankly, my dear, we don't care if none of the riders ever take their bikes into the dealership. So, Don, how good of a salesman are you, eh ? And Barry, still a good idea.

Barry...Hah ! Born there, lived there...don't need to learn that fast talking, yadda yadda yadda lingo.

There had better be some other riders coming from West of the Rockies, or....else:stirthepot: I would not like to be the only one there that can speak West Coast talk, and have to listen to all those Easterners...yadda yadda yadda. Is there anyone else registered to go to Freebirds MD, that is from West of the Rocky Mountains ??????

Don, are you aware of the latest national news to come out today about...Oberlin, Ohio ? Here is the link: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/04/oberlin-cancels-classes_n_2805573.html?1362500175&icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl4%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D278741 It appears that some person walking around the trails of Oberlin College was wearing a KKK outfit, and there have been some issues during the past month. Like the movie, Marathon Man...Is It Safe ?

Thank you all that have answered so far, BUT...I would like to find someone closer, as I do not like to inconvenience other people. I am funny that way. I will ride 1000 miles to help someone else, but I can't ask others to do that for me. Just color me odd. And a person from NY does not want to go down to that state beneath them to check out a bike. That would be...beneath them. (ha ha ha) Maybe I should just use icons like everyone else does... I will continue to look for someone close. Wellsboro is really in the north/central area of that state. Slightly east of central, in the woods. I will continue to call the bike owner...
