  1. Honestly, it went very well. Low angle of attack seems to be the key. Tried a few times previously from both sides, and gave up. Ridin' from Santa Monica CA to DC with a few friends for Memorial Day. My wife's uncle was KIA in Korea. I'm carrying his Purple Heart to the Memorials. 6,500 miles round-trip, returning to SoCal through Milwaukee, Deadwood, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Mesquite, and Lake Havasu City. Needed the brighter light, and my hand survived unharmed. If you see a red 2nd Gen Venture, chirpin' like a bird, throw me a low-sign. Thanks for the jab! Jeff:rotf:
  2. Thanks to all on this thread for the information on replacing my 2nd Gen headlight bulb. As described above, I: 1. Turned Fairing all the way to the right. 2. Got a bunch of light on the area from above. 3. Sat on the floor, feet pointing in the direction of travel. 4. Pulled big 4'' rubber cover off. (Has a tab marked "Top" at the top.) 5. Pushed IN and UP on right side of retainer spring. (I had to adjust the drop light lower to see the retainer spring, which crosses the bulb at about 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock.) 6. Since the socket came off when I removed the 4'' rubber cover, I simply pulled the old bulb out, and as mentioned above, no turning or rotation required. 7. Put it back together in reverse order. Total elapse time........8-minutes. I have GIANT hands. Only met one man in my 55-years with bigger hands, and he was 6ft 7in. Again, many thanks to the contributors above! So glad I joined the Forum!
  3. I noticed some folks run 48 PSI in their rear tire. My Dunlop D404 is rated at a maximum of 41PSI for both the front and rear. Any pointers here for a 6,500 mile highway trip, California to DC and back? Many Thanks! Jeff
  4. Not sure. Even though the bike tries to move forward as I slowly release the clutch handle, I'm still sitting sitting there at Zero MPH, the Gears aren't turning. There is a load on the gears, but they are not rotating. My Chirp is clearly there as I start to release the clutch with brake on. P.S. I just changed my 5W-40 Rotella T6 Synthetic, and opted for the Castrol 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Oil. I thought the heavier Viscosity Oil would mask the Chirp to some extent. Sadly, the Chirp is way Louder on the Castrol. Gonna change back to Rotella 5W-40 tonight. Thanks! Jeff
  5. So, since my 2nd Gen Venture chirps at zero MPH as I let the clutch out, doesn't that mean my Jetson Chirp is NOT related to Gear-Mesh? The Jetson Chirp is RPM related, even as I let the clutch out, thus all in the Clutch Basket I'd think? Your Thoughts?? Jeff
  6. This is my first post since joining VentureRider.Org. I have 700+ miles on Rotella T6 5W-40 Synthetic from Walmart. I also used about 6 Ounces of MotorKote, based on some threads I've read here on the VentureRiders.Org site. I'm thinking my 2nd Gen 2000 Yamaha Venture Chirp is louder in low gears compared to regular oil, but completely gone above 60MPH in 4th, and 72MPH in 5th. I'm learning to ride at slightly higher RPMs than I did on my '05 Ultra Classic. Higher RPMs which seems to reduce chirp substantially. Rotella 5W-40 may be a bit thin for my riding, but it seems there are no other Rotella options. Amsoil 20W-50 perhaps? Hawk-19 USAF
