  1. Was manager for a car rental agency back in the 70's ... in 78 we had a variety of new vehicles from Firebirds and Camaros to Chrysler LeBaron's and Mercury Grand Marquis.... and 2 Subaru wagons. Those 2 cars were constantly on rent, had the most mileage put on them, and literally had the crap run out of them.... they never broke down once, never had any problems whatsoever, and we had no trouble selling them when we needed to downsize. Almost all of the other cars had been in and out of the dealer shop at least once and some several times. We kept our cars for only 6 months ... except the Subarus ... we ran them for 2 years!
  2. The Wing is such a perfect bike you can't improve on it so Honda had to do something to give buyers choices .... Seriously though, ABS should be the FIRST option, not the last ... geeeesh. But if you look at it from their standpoint (Honda's) .... they make more money the way it is now and that's all they're concerned about.
  3. Only if it IS an OPTION
  4. I agree and let me ask you a Q ... do you feel brake pulsation or shuddering when you grab a fistfull of brakes?
  5. Above? meaning what? They are two different things.
  6. HA! a typical "cop-out" for their lack of control. How can any "average" person determine that unless they repeat the exact same situation with and without ABS.
  7. I have not had actual experience of this situation (gravel, etc) but I've heard of others who have and according to them, this is one of those kind of situations where ABS really shines. The difference between ABS releasing the brake and the rider doing it is the ABS does it very quickly, when necessary, and then applies the brake again whereas the rider would be inclined to release either too long or all together. As for ABS in a cage, from personal experience I prefer it in slippery road conditions, especially snow and ice.
  8. I think it's because they want to be more like a 2nd genner without actually owning one ...
  9. I can't quote anything re: saving lives but I can tell you that ABS on my Wing certainly saved me from going down. When you hammer the brakes HARD, it does not lock up the wheels ... you just come to a stop FAST!
  10. Even mentions Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda ... http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/business/200035711.html
  11. Sorry to hear about this Earl ... glad nobody in the house was injured. I disagree with anyone saying "don't contact a lawyer". This IMO is the first thing that I would do because Ins co's are there to cover their own butt first and if they can see a way out, they will take it. Not sure about your area but around here there are lawyers who will take a case and get their payment at the end, out of the settlement, which usually includes costs (legal fees). If they don't win the case, they get nothing (generally that doesn't happen). I can say the above as I've had first hand experience with this. My ex-g/f would have gotten basically nothing from a car accident if she hadn't contacted a lawyer. Even with that, the ins co tried their damndest to rip her off ... to no avail. Talk to a lawyer ... initial consultations are usually free. Make sure you get one that is experienced in insurance claims. (just my 3.2 cents ... becoz Can pennies cost 1.6 cents to make)
  12. Nope, no cruise, and no reverse either. The bike is not a "Wing" ... it is a bagger with a goldwing engine and it's intended to target a specific market. I also think it's designed to get back that "Valkyrie" market.
  13. Awesome vid & music! Ask them when they're coming to my area
  14. yup, did that with the lights on my Wing in order to "black out" the inner chrome reflector (not the part that projects the light). Bake it at 350 for 5 min ... comes apart easy .... reverse process to seal it back up. Apparently it uses butyl rubber sealer.
  15. Dang... we won't be here for that month ... (kiddin of course) Give us a call Rick, you're always welcome!
  16. I just saw it too and was about to wish you a Happy B/day ... until I saw the original posting date .... oh well, what the heck ... Happy Birthday anyway ... oh, and I'd buy you a beer and bbq a steak for ya if you're in the area.
  17. I have a one-track mind ...
  18. geeesh.. I walked into that one lookin the other way
  19. As I now recall, my son took 'em ... and for the past 11 years I've been wondering where I put the danged things.... (just in case)
  20. I think he switched bikes ... to a Wing !
  21. I had a 12 pack ... 12 years ago ...
  22. Well that's one way of getting an Iron Butt award ....
  23. not "many" he says
  24. Similar situation here. I want to move to a warmer & drier climate when we retire. Wife wants to stay close to her kids ... I say to her that sooner or later, they will move off in different directions ... they're not going to stay here just to be close to mama. They'll go off and live their own lives, time you did too. As it is, one of the girls already has ... she's in Australia LOL
  25. Sorry to see y'all getting so much snow ... we've had a lot of rain but it finally stopped and we got a couple nice days of riding weather in this past weekend. PMS cured for a while at least! Forecast is for more nice weather and hopefully into the Easter weekend.
