Boring rainy Sunday. Decided to look into repairing the plastic tabs that break off so easily when you remove the plastic chrome fairing trim that covers the windshield screws. I think I may have read about some other methods. This was so easy I just had to share my method. Take an aluminum butterfly molly. You know the mollies you put in dry wall that open up on the other side of the wall. One side of the butterfly is slightly wider and that wider side fits almost perfectly onto the base of the broken tab. Just cut it to fit and use some JB Weld epoxy to glue it in place. See pics and you'll get the idea. With a Dremel it took maybe 30 mins. to make two. It was my top two that were broken off. See pics and if you have any questions just let me know.

Well, my new slip on's were supposed to ship Monday May 20th according to the email I got the day I ordered them which was Monday May 13th. Just got an email from Cruiser Customizing they are telling me they are having a delay getting them in from their supplier. New estimated ship date? June 21st. I've been doing business for years with Cruiser Customizing and have always been satisfied with them but this is just weird. I've visited 5 other web retailers that actually have them "in stock" not just stating available or usually ships in 2 - 3 days. Heck Sears even has them "in stock" (of course it ships from a third party). J.C. Whitney specifically lists two in stock and they are $80 bucks cheaper. I did email CC back to see if they could maybe do better some how:confused24:. We'll see.

I just got my Butt Butler seat mod back from Rick too. He shipped it back to me fast so I was riding when I got home from my trip. Excellent workmanship and the comfort is great. Rick is a class act all the way around.

Well I decided to give em a try. I know they are pricey but they just seem so cool. I ordered the National Cycle Peacemakers for my RSV today. They won't ship till next Monday so I'll have them by the 22nd I hope. I love how quiet the RSV is and it's great to be able to hear the stereo but there are those occasions when you just want to have some rumble. This just seems to be such a cool options. I haven't found much on this site about the Peacemakers so when I get them on I'll do a write up for ya'll.

I appreciate your advice and experience. I actually am in the market for new tires. I have looked at the Avon Venoms and the reinforced ones at that. I also notice the rear Venom 150/90 15 size is just a tiny bit lower profile than the Dunlop which would also help take some of the geometry back after the front fork lowering. As I said I like the lower but thought maybe 3/4" might have been better than the full 1". I just don't want to go back through raising them for that little bit. So the Venoms might just be exactly what I need. I'll give them a second look. Thanks again.

Please help us pray....

Prayer is powerful. When God's people pray He answers. I am praying too. -
I like the 1" lower forks but thought maybe I had lowered it a just a tad too much for me. I'm 5'11" so lower was more for handling but I do notice the bike is a bit touchy at high speed. Not a lot so I'm sure I'll get used to it. I've only been able to ride maybe 40 miles on the highway since the front was lowered. I think I'll leave the back alone for now. I like the look of the bike lowered both front and back. I'm not an aggressive rider so I'm not concerned about the occasional scrape. Thanks for the kickstand advice in case I do decide to go that far. My seats were just a bit wide so I sent them to Rick Butler. He has a great price for what he does to make them even more comfortable than they already are. Can't wait till I get the seats back on and get to feel the bike with the seat mod, the fork mod with the risers and my new Baggershield. So much fun modifying / tweaking for the perfect ride on such a great bike.

Okay, I decided to just do the Baron Risers vs. the Flanders mod for now. Just got them and had them on in a about 30 mins. or less. Then spent an hour getting the rubber bumpers between the bars and the inner fairing in place. I saw a post here where a fellow used the original bumpers and just turned them upside down. I did that but needed to cut them down at an angle just a bit and then snugged them in nice and tight. Worked great. It's a bit hard to be sure I got the height adjustment on the bars just right since my seats are in TX with Rick but that's easy enough to change if I don't like where I put them. The cables came up with enough slack to mount without too much trouble. I do notice that my throttle at full tilt to the right does not return to idle quickly. It does return slowly. It has to be cranked all the way I mean all the way hard for there to be this influence on the throttle. Just a hair less crank and it's fine so I'm good with that. There it is, another mod completed with all the experienced advice on this forum. Next up? Saving my money for new Dunlop Elite 3 tires and a set of Nationalcycle Peacemakers. They look to be really cool.

Has anybody had any experience with the Nationalcycle Peacmakers? Or maybe opinions?

Got my Baggershield today and installed it. Only took mins. to install. Tried both low profile and quick mounting hardware. I like the quick mounting hardware best. Low is nice too but I like the convenience of the quick method and it looks just fine. Haven't had a chance to ride with it yet my seats are on their way to Rick Butler's. I'm out of town next week so I'll give ya'll my impression of the ride difference late next week.

I've shipped my seats off to Rick. He's a very nice fellow. I'm so looking forward to his mod. I've always had my motorcycle seats reworked. The Venture seats come as close to good as I've found for any stock seat but I know with Rick's skill it will be even better. I'll let ya'll know how it works for me.

No I'm not. My front tire is stock. I talked to my local shop and they feel if go with a 150\80 15 tire on the rear it will only make a few millimeters difference which is what I'm hoping for. Just a little lower. Now I'm told I might feel a bit more of the road vibrations since it doesn't have as much cushion as a 150\90 15 but I think it will give me the best of what I'm hoping for. I like a lower look and just a little in the back will offset the full inch I lowered the fork just enough without going to far. Whatcha think?

I have used RideOn. I wonder if Dynabeads are better? RideOn will also seal a puncture in the contact patch as well and it is water soluble. I had not heard of Dynabeads until this moment. I checked out their websit. Cool product.

I don't have any itching in the nose. I have a model with a water tank (use distilled water) and I'm able to up the moisture as needed as humidity changes in the house during seasons. I use nasal pillows vs. a mask. My hose runs up between my eyes and over my head so I can turn side to side freely. I can tell you sometimes I have congestion so I have to lay on my back with my head tilted slightly back on my pillow until my head opens up. Once it opens the moist forced air keeps me open so I can turn on my side. I love being able to breath with my mouth closed. I had apnea bad enough that my oxygen level would drop dramatically when I slept which is dangerous. Of course no more snoring. I hope you get used to it because it does improve your life's longevity.

I'm sorry to be so needy but I count on ya'll for all my answers. I had my front fork lowered 1". It was a bit of task so I don't really want to go back through that. Here is my thinking. Low speed is great with the 1" lower but at higher speeds it is just a touch too responsive. I could probably get use to it but tweaking for perfection is what we do right? I don't want to go back to original geometry by lowering the rear with the Baron lowering kit. Soooo.... my tires are old enough that I should replace them. What if I put a 150\80 15 on the rear vs. the 150/90 15 which is OEM? I am not an aggressive rider. I think I've scraped my boards once since I've owned my 2008 RSV. How much would this idea lower the rear and would there be any other considerations on this tire size change I should be aware of?

Just subscribed to this thread. Can't wait to hear how this turns out. So cool you guys never cease to amaze me.

Deepforkriver: I did read those. Thanks for the links. I think I'll buy it.

I've read a bunch about replacing my shield. I had sort of decided on the F4 Customs but I see Baggershield is having a sale (ends tonight). With 30% total including our 10% member discount I'm thinking hard about the cost difference and being able to go between short and tall in a flash. My wife will like the extra bubble from what I've read. I'll like the air on those really hot days here in NC. Before I pull the trigger I'm going to ask what's been asked before on this site.... do I buy one? Is the extra thickness going to give me any problems installing with my shield tool bag tucked down in between fairing and shield? Any thoughts at all from you guys is valued highly by me. Thanks in advance.

Can you put your bike in the bed?

I installed a small red led into the black plastic ignition cowl on the tank and tied it to the passing lights power wire coming from the battery. That way I can easily see if my passing lights are on. So I knew immediately during my test ride that something happened because it was on then went off. I got that idea from this forum too. I do not like extra light indicators from all these accessories shining in my eyes during night driving (which I do try to avoid). So, I put a light coat of black paint on the LED then on one side put a small scratch to remove a little paint. Now I get just a glint of light from the scratch to the right side (not facing me) so I can see it during daylight hours and I can see through the light coat of paint at night and the scratch doesn't face me so no problem. I installed a chrome three toggle power block on top of my right front brake reservoir each toggle has a little light to indicate it is on. Bright little suckers. I bought a left handed one so I could mount it with the toggles facing forward. I know they make ones without indicator lights but I liked the type of toggle button these had vs. others that were more like a switch. I even put window tint (60% dark) on my Kuryakyn voltage meter. It dims at low light but not enough for me. Pics attached: And yes I know smoking is bad for you.

Okay, got her home. Had the shop do the full 1". Ya'll described the difference quite well. She feels lighter, she handles easier at low speed and at high speed she is stable and responsive. I like the change. They angled the fork air valves toward the outside so I can still use them if I load her down. All is great. Thanks again to all who contributed about this mod. The shop did pinch my light bar wires putting it back together. It's easy to do, I've done it myself before. Caused a short so I had to fix that after my test ride but I figured it out pretty quick. I attached a pic of the fork for ya.

Hmmmm.... in earlier posts in indicated that after install Adobe Reader it now opens (just having the Windows Media Player popping up too). I'm confused why it opens after installing Adobe but says it can't open it. Oh well, glad you can workaround it and use your purchased file. Good luck with the repair.

Not quite some of us old techs are still hanging around on the forum just in case one of you guys need a real file and print environment.
