Love the CD 100 LED tail light. Very very bright. You won't regret it. -
LED Light kit Install
hubbsfd replied to IronMike's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just did this conversion on my 2008 RSV. I bought the kit which comes with a Diode Kit which you won't need because you have two turn signal indicator lights. The Diode Kit is for a bike with only one indicator light. You also received two equalizers. Don't bother trying to get the lights to flash normal speed using these two equalizers it won't be enough to convince your two flashers (yes you have two flasher units) that you have bulbs. You will need one equalizer in the fairing up front (yes that means splitting the fairing) and a "Slimline Signal Stabilizer" on the rear. Trust me on this as I have just completed this with much trial and error last week. You don't have to solder the connections although I always do. You can use the PosiLock connectors provided they work fine. That way you don't have to cut and splice stock wires if you don't want to. Send me a PM if you want advice along the way. It's not hard to do but there are a couple gotchas I might be able to help you with. Glad to help a fellow forum member. -
Yes they have.... they will not have a 2014 year Venture. Not sure if they plan to redesign it and come out with an updated version but it doesn't matter really. They are a unique bike in their class and I love mine.

Not sure what to make of these two posts so I have not comment directly on them. I do want to say. I graduated form Jeff City High. I was there during the Pete Atkins reign of terror. 16 years Jeff City Jays were undefeated and held the national record. Lots of pride in having attended such a great school and participated in a great sports and music program. I was the romantic male lead in the much acclaimed musicals produced every year by Mr. Carl Burkel two years in a row my Junior and Senior years. I hear they still do them. My sister had the female lead two years in a row just one year off my performances since she was two years ahead of me. I can remember hearing people asking if there were any more of my family in the wings so someone else could have a chance at a lead role. Oh well, we all moved away after I graduated so I'm sure those who wanted it were relieved since they could have a chance. If your old enough you know us if not disregard this post as a someone who once lived in a most wonderful time in a wonderful place. All my spare time was spent at Bagnel Dam area. Lake of the Ozarks is still the standard I measure all lake experiences by. One day I'll return and bring my children to see the great state of misery as we lovingly referred to it during high school. Good luck on your journey.

Mine too. Just let it hang.

RSV front auxillary lighting mount
hubbsfd replied to ReinyRooster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just get a metric set of round head hex wrenches. Easy peasy. -
I am no expert but have been doing a lot of reading about octane for the RSV. The 91 octane recommended for the RSV is 91 RON not 91 PON. If you look at that tag in the trunk you will notice those letters RON after the 91. This stands for Research Octane Number which is the octane rating tested under very specific conditions. RON is an accurate rating in Europe but for Canada and the U.S. this rating is not used at the pump. At the pump the octane translates to 87 PON (pump octane number) for a 91 RON rating. This is how I've understood it but I'm sure there are lots of folks more knowledgeable about this than me.

Question about backrest
hubbsfd replied to ReinyRooster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I use the Diamond R backrest. It mounts to the screws that hold the passenger seat in place. It swings down pretty flat. Check it out. http://www.diamondraccessories.com/yamaha/proddisplay.php?name=RSV%20Overstuffed%20Backrest -
So two equalizers on the back? In series if so? I'd have to find another spot to put a second one in for the rear. I mean a place to tap into the wire and store the hot thing. I thinking I need to find the happiness that others have found with different fast flashers.
-
I installed the Custom Dynamics LED turn signals in my 2008 RSV. They work fine even the dynamic clusters in the rear. They do flash quickly and I know some like that but I want to use the equalizers to put them back to normal speed. I think I might be doing something wrong cause the lights still flash fast. I put one under the seat tied into the rear at the plug to the lights in the back. Brown and Green wires for the turn wires...right? Up front in the fairing I'm still looking for the right plug or wires... any help where they are or which plug it is? I thought I had it right but might have tied into the wrong wires. It does require both front and back be installed before they will return to normal if they are going to... right? Otherwise if it is all right and the grounds are good then I'll just have to go for a stabalizer vs. equalizers. I don't want to change out my flasher module as I like auto canceling. Any advise anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

All the more reason to put some National Cycle Peacemakers slip ons. Go quiet when you see a cop. It will really confuse them.
-
I love my Peacemakers. They are loud enough but not obnoxious and I put them back to stock quiet anytime I desire. The loudness of open pipes is mostly heard behind the bike so I find that I can even enjoy my stereo while cruising with pipes open. I think they are the best of both worlds.

Hey XV1100SE: I used your write up and did mine very similar. Only I opened enough brackets under the fender to allow enough slack to push the bulb connector into the housing far enough to get my wires in beside it and down the tube. Otherwise great help. I'm up and running. Just need to put the equalizers in and I'm done. Thanks again.

I do the same thing at my house. I love working on my bikes so I spend a lot of time in the garage every evening tweaking and cleaning, listening to music and generally enjoying my hobby. My wife is also very supportive of my motorcycle passion. I do have a couple fans in the garage and a couch and chairs so I can have company while I work. Just don't clutter up my work bench with family stuff and leave my dang tools alone. If you use them put them back! That's pretty much my only rule.
-
Thank you but I had a 5% discount from a previous order. Appreciate it though.
-
Yes I got the 100 LED brake light first. Love the brightness. Thought I should do the Dynamic Clusters to add more running light to the rear and bring up some more light in general.
-
Hey y'all. I just ordered the Custom Dynamics Yamaha LED turn signal conversion kit. Front Amber LED's rear Dynamic clusters. Comes with the two load equalizers for front and back. It also comes with GEN-MDK. Anyone know what that last thing is? This is a pretty straight forward install so I don't anticipate any issues. I'll have to find a good spot for the load equalizers as they get hot. Any advice is always welcome.

I have never messed with the forks much before. That's why I had my favorite shop lower it for me. Had them lower it 1". So you're talking about the big bolt on top just under the bars? You know I need to take the bike in anyway soon. I'll ask them to see if they see what I see and hear if they have thoughts. Thanks everyone for chiming in. All good thoughts I had not thought of.

I was just there last week. Wonderful riding in the Smokey's. Did you do the Moonshiner 28 run? I loved it even better then Tail of the Dragon.
-
That would make more sense than anything I had tried to think of. It has been trailored and yes the bars were used. Luckily the amount they are crooked is only very slight. I've been riding it since last trailored for 8 months and I just noticed it. Of course, now I'll notice it all the time dang it. Is there a good way to bend them right?

Interesting product. I did a bit of research and found that during the second part of the application it will dry to a milky looking film. So not for use where it will be seen but under the bike might help keep it cleaner. Of course I'm the only person my bike shop has ever met that keeps the underside as clean as the top. The research indicated that UV will break it down and cause it to flake off. I saw nothing about soap and water though. I can see it would have some good uses just not sure how much use it would get on a bike.

I noticed the other day sitting on my 2008 RSV that the handle bars look to be slightly out of align with the tree. I have had the front lowered and put on a set of Baron's 1.5" risers. The bars are centered left to right pretty good but the left side seems to be slightly higher than the right side so it looks like the bars are pointing a little to the right of center. How is that even possible? The holes to mount the bars would dictate the bars being the same. The only way it seems to me they could be off would be left to right in the riser mounts but they are pretty close to perfect. Is it possible that when the shop lowered my fork they didn't get something just right?

I actually did move down. I'm out of Raleigh NC now. Easy ride over to the west side. About 5 hours for me. My father-in-law trailered his bike up from Orlando FL and we road together over there for 4 days. First day we did the water fall run (don't ask for the roads I'd have to research it on the ride map to remember). Second day we road the Moonshiner 28. Third day we hit the Blue Ridge Parkway (long road). Fourth day we did Tail of the Dragon and the Chilahala Skyway both. Our motel was located in Maggie Valley (had a covered area right out side the motel room door for our bikes) so we were in the middle of the runs we wanted to do. Worked out very well. Had some good food and met some nice folks but best of all the ridding. We have the rider to rider intercom so we were able to enjoy the ride with comment. I filmed the Tail of the Dragon run from my bike but I couldn't ride like I wanted due to a cager. I let him get ahead and still caught him. Then it started raining right at the end of the run so careful on wet roads became the order. We dodged rain that last day some here and there. I agree with others who posted that this is some of the best motorcycling in the country and might rank right up there internationally too.

Well, just returned from 4 days running the back roads of the Great Smokey Mountains. What a great road trip. The Venture performed flawlessly. Grinding the floorboards on the Moonshiner 28 run was better even than The Tail of the Dragon run. I expected no less of my Venture but she surpassed my expectations. Rolling on the throttle out of the hair pin twisties was exhilarating. Felling the power and hearing those Peacemaker mufflers was absolutely a rush. Saw a multitude of Gold Wings and Triumphs and Victories, Boulevards and even a couple Statoliners and many others but NO Ventures. Everyone liked the Venture though. No influence on its running or starting at 6000 ft. on the mountain tops. This girl ran like a scared rabbit and handled better than I ever thought. Had some major thunderstorms on the way home. Put the emergency flashers on and kept moving with the traffic through it all. Had the Bagger Shield on high position so had to sit high on the back of my seat to see over due to cager spray with deep water on the roads. I even used Pledge on the the shield but that spray just doesn't run off enough. No problem in the long run as this Bagger shield is just slightly lower than stock so it was not a problem getting high enough to see over just fine. Absolutely loved having the shield lowered for the mountain runs though. Very sporty feel for a surprisingly sporty bike. Don't think I'd trade her for any other bike I saw although that 3 cylinder Triumph Rocket (saw two) was a damn beautiful thing to see. I've always like the Triumph. Well just wante y'all to know what a great time I had and more confirmation of what you already know.... the Venture ROCKS!!!

F4 windshield performance
hubbsfd replied to orlean1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I was leaning toward the F4 Customs but choose the Baggershield, however, there website insists they have a special coating that repels rain. I was concerned about low speed mist type rain myself. Someone that has one installed will surely post to your question from experience though I'm sure.
