  1. Never bring brass to a lead battle...
  2. On my map... it is anywhere I have ridden a motorcycle... not necessarily mine. For me that would include the southwest states and 10 countries in Europe. But, I do not think anyone should ever count a state that they only trailered their bike through...
  3. I have opened my garage door to find a downpour to start off a road trip. I would call that 100% chance of rain. For these rides... I put on the rain gear. But, if it is just a day ride... I don't really pay attention to the % chance by the weather guessers. I use the radar display on my smart phone. And, if I decide it is a go based on the radar... I check it every stop to decide whether to alter route or not. If it a scheduled road trip to a several day event... I will ride rain or shine most of the time.
  4. My guess is you either ride a trike, sidecar rig... or are trolling. Anyone who has ridden more than 40 minutes knows there is more to turning a motorcycle than just turning the steering bars. I rarely worry about lean angle either as I simply don't ride that close to the limit, but I assure you my and every other two wheel vehicle does in fact lean when you push or pull on the bars.
  5. Canaan Valley area of WV is a decent place to base for some good day rides. I've used the Canaan Valley Resort as a base for several Ride-Ins. Not sure this will work, but I am going to try to attach a GPX file with several routes I used in the past. They should load in Garmin Basecamp software if you happen to have it. These routes are a few years old, and have not been test run in a few years. But they should be pretty good. These routes include: Fridays Ride - Just a long scenic ride. Featured stops are Seneca Rocks, Greenbank Radio Telescope, and Highlands Scenic Byway. If you are a hiker, shorten this route and hike to top of Seneca Rocks. About a mile each way and very steep... but worth the effort. SmokeHole Loop - If you are only going to do one... this would be it I think. Features are a ride on backroad Leadmine Rd (skip to shorten if like) Seneca Rocks, Seneca Caverns, a ride through Smoke Hole Canyon, and a stop at Blackwater Falls. Spruce Knob Loop - This one takes you to the summit of the highest point in WV. Then on to Cass where if timing is right you could take the Cass Scenic Railroad ride into mountains. Then swing by Snowshoe Ski resort, then back to Canaan Valley. You may just want to take these stop suggestions, google them to see if they interest you then build your own route to pick them up. My favorites include hiking to top of Seneca Rocks, riding through Smokehole Canyon, taking the Cass railroad ride, and riding to top of Spruce Knob. I am going back up in September with friends to this area and already can't wait! Seems GPX files are on the upload list... You can download my GPS file here: http://www.macesoftware.com/GPS/Canaan_Valley.gpx Hope this works for you.
  6. I tow a trailer a lot... but I agree. Your video is not a situation I would want a trailer. Any trailer. But to be honest...it is not a situation I would want a Venture either. Now... on my KLR650 that I sold a few years ago... that would be perfect. But my wife would only take short runs with me on the KLR. Impressive! Ride on...
  7. Another consideration. Do you have an aftermarket centerstand? I do and it damned near lifted me off the ground one day. I modified it slightly so it stays a bit higher than it was designed, but I still have ground off the corners of the feet pads.
  8. 36 degrees
  9. I opted for Keltec PF9 for my carry. Very small, single stack, double action 9mm with 7+1. Not the most well made or fancy weapon out there, but one of the smaller 9's you can get. For me... if I cant pocket carry easily.. I probably would not carry it all the time and then it would be useless. I just hope I am like the majority of those who carry and never even need to pull it. But if I do, I'm sure I will be glad I had that option.
  10. +1 Good idea!
  11. I ran the small flags on my antennas for 5 or 6 years with no issues. Then one day while riding in the rain the flags got heavy and the radio antenna apparently had enough.... SNAP! Have used the fold down flag mounts ever since.
  12. Yep. Me too. It is these times that I really appreciate the six horns I have on my RSV including two air horns. The reaction is always priceless. It is not always the teen girls, although they seem to be the worse. Couple years ago I watched a sheriffs deputy almost rear end stopped traffic while texting. I was stopped in opposite direction lane and watched the whole thing. I called it in later, but seriously doubt anything was done about it.
  13. I saw this on local news. They also mentioned drugs were also suspected.
  14. I put in a Ricks Motorsports stator 6 months ago. No whine that I can hear. I also got a HD R/R at same time. The new R/R just failed and I put back in the OEM R/R. All tests I did on the Ricks Motorsports stator still show in spec. Have you run any tests on the stator and R/R using a multimeter yet?
  15. Can't make campout. But live 2 hours away. Might make a ride.
  16. Hello All, In June, my wife and I have a rare week where both our two teens will be away. We want to do a ride and camp. I suggested returning to Myrtle Beach, but my wife mentioned along the gulf coast since we have never spent any time there yet. Looking for suggestions for good places to tent camp. Right now considering Gulf State Park near Gulf Shores, AL and also maybe on Dauphin Island. We would prefer somewhere shaded and designed for tents instead of RV pads, but electric hook-up is a must for a fan. Appreciate any suggestions. Also any good day rides for that area. Thanks.

    Sad News

Prayers for the families. Always sad to hear of this.
  18. Don't forget the discount code... 3939 I am reserved at the campground, but forgot to use code. I need to call to be sure I get in the right campground area. I read somewhere about a event fee. $60/pp maybe? How/to who do we pay that? (EDIT: I found it!) Thanks.
  19. Joe, the HD R/R I got from buckeye last July did fail last week. I finally had a chance to run the system tests found at the other place. All the stator tests come in just fine. But when I did the diode test on the HD R/R, it failed that test. Since I saved my original OEM R/R, I tested it and it showed fine so I put it back in. So far, it is charging steady 13.6. Where yours seem to be overcharging... my failed HD R/R was under charging.
  20. Joe, my bike showed signs of my electrical gremlins returning on a ride past wekend. I have not had a chance to do any diagnostics yet. But I just put a new stator and R/R last August. I'm starting to believe putting higher output stators on our bikes is simply a bad idea. Anyway, have you ensured that whatever meter is telling you that you are overcharging is not malfunctioning?
  21. +1 on the Garmin 660. If you can find a FACTORY reburb at decent discount, that sometimes can be a way to save some. But I would steer clear if not a factory refurb. I know a lot of folks who use the Garmin Nuvi's which have many of the same features as the ZUMO line. But... they are not waterproof and they usually have to throw them in the trunk or put a gadget condom on it when it rains. I would rather just keep rolling without worrying about all that. I like that I can load all my MP3 files on the 660 and play it through my AUX along with the turn by turn when I choose to listen to that. I guess you can also do your phone through these, but I already had a Kennedy Cellset installed so I still use that for the phone.
  22. I now prefer inline splices and solder, but this certainly looks like a good option as well.
  23. That would be the lowest part of your gas tank when on side stand. If there was water in the gas it would sink to that point if the bike sat for long periods. I wonder if the maybe the rust isn't coming from inside out...
  24. Good for you not accepting the first doctors reluctance to take action.
  25. I work part time at Lowes and have written a few install contracts. Just wondering a few things. First, are you a great distance from the store you bought the tank from? Also it seems odd you took the water tank. When we write an install contract, usually our contracted installer will bring what you bought with them whether that is a water tank, dishwasher etc. If you really do have a straight forward install with no additional mileage, I would call Lowes back and make sure they are aware that installer asked to charge well above the posted install rate for apparently no reason.
