On the right side under the posters information is a highlighted ˆ which when clicked shows the thanks received, thanks given. That's cool. But a minor error? There is also a listing of 'dislikes' received and 'dislikes' given. Should that list reflect 'likes' and not 'dislikes'? There is no 'dislike' button.

front fork spring replacement
Prairiehammer replied to crowrod's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Apparently only one spacer was a common mistake by Sonic back a few years ago. Still is, I see. Here is thread about changing to Sonics. Scroll down to the last two thread posts where the lack of supplied spacers was talked about and the remedy. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?55285-Beefier-springs-fork-oil-change-and-steering-head-lubed!&highlight=sonic -
Back to Red for Default color. Switch to Blue if you prefer.
Prairiehammer replied to Freebird's topic in Watering Hole
Looks like Don and Chris have toned down the red a bit. A bit more subtle. I think I am going to try it for awhile. While the blue is easier on my eyes, it is kinda boring. -
Running Rough, missing/popping

Any 7mm solid core spark plug wire will work, it doesn't have to be 'high performance'. To avoid potential damage to the electronic ignition from EMI, you must use resistor spark plug caps with solid core wire. You should also retain the corrugated wire 'loom' around the spark plug wire. It is necessary to prevent spark leakage. But, before going to the minor expense and moderate trouble to replace the OEM wires, first try simply cutting ¼" off the OEM wires at each end. This action will remove any corroded conductor that may be at the ends. Some have found making an 'X' on the newly cut wire end surface assists with inserting the wire end onto the sharp prong that is in the caps and the ignition coil wire socket. If you MUST replace the spark plug wires, here is a how to: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?81742-Spark-Plug-Wire-Replacement-MK2&highlight=spark+plug+wires -

The pickup coils are in the stator cover, the larger cover on the LEFT side of the bike. The pickup coils look like this: You apparently removed the clutch cover. -

from golg wing to venture
Prairiehammer replied to brian aber's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you retain the stock linked brakes (front brake lever actuates the right front caliper, and the rear brake pedal actuates the rear caliper and the left front caliper), it is not recommended to 'disconnect' the proportioning valve. If you delink the integrated brakes, then yes, the proportioning valve is 'disconnected', but most leave the proportioning valve body bolted to the rear master cylinder and just remove the internal parts of the proportioning valve. -

The pick-up coils are located in the stator cover, where they pickup pulses from the rotating rotor. Those signals are sent to the TCI. The four coils that are located under the battery (and over the TCI) are ignition coils. -
OK. Thanks. I thought my computer was acting up.

The red icons are obscured, but not the blue icons. And thanks ChrisM. I am sure Freebird would not have been able to do it without you.

Yeah, me too. When I try to use that link, Don, I get a 'no permission' message.

Scroll all the way to the bottom left of the page and select "vB4 default style" for a close approximation of the old look (blue).

When you get this new thing all lined out, the 'vanity' in me requests a link to "my threads" (those started by moi) and a link to "my replies" (a link to those threads in which I have replied). Yeah, yeah, I know we all have priorities. Thank you.

So 'Steamer' is Bob?! Who knew! I am going to try and post the pics you posted on Facebook here. With the new forum look and features, I am not sure it will work. Well, I'll be... It certainly is different, but it got done.

My condolences, Scott. -
That item is not an 'air compressor'. It is the cruise control vacuum pump. Someone should set Pinwall straight.

Removing TCI....HELP
Prairiehammer replied to Patmac6075's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The screws holding the TCI are #3 JIS, as Neil says, however, I removed those screws utilizing a #3 Phillips bit, one inch long screwdriver insert bit; inserted into a ¼" socket attached to a stubby handled ratchet, worked well. Tape the #3 (NOT the common #2) screwdriver bit onto the ¼" socket to keep the bit from falling out. It helps to spray the screws with penetrating oil before attempting to remove them. -
Cruise control prob; 1988 xvz 13
Prairiehammer replied to azxvz1284's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Does the 'SET' light flash? If the 'SET' light flashes every two seconds, the vacuum pump or related parts are faulty. If the 'SET' light flashes three times every two seconds, the control unit or its connectors is faulty. Check the 'IGNITION' fuse for proper function and continuity. -
Tuning the First Gen AM/FM Radio
Prairiehammer replied to azxvz1284's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
The radio should in fact tune to any station. And on a well functioning tuner, it will, especially when in 'SEEK' mode. Although it doesn't sound like this is your problem, if the antenna lead is corroded at the antenna base, or the matching box, or at the tuner, the tuner may not be finding a strong enough signal to lock onto a station. The problem seems to be, in your case, moisture or debris or corrosion in the station select buttons or probably in the multi-pin connector beneath the removable audio unit. Check all the connector pins (male AND female) for corrosion and also for accurate engagement. -
Bought an 83
Prairiehammer replied to Godlover's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
To clarify: you may use a an '84 through '89 TCI, 1990-1993 will not work.
