Hey Guys! It looks like its time to do a little maintenance on my Baby Girl including a new front tire, new battery, and a clutch new slave cylinder. Its been leaking ever since I got it, but I've just continued to fill the reservoir once it gets low. I figure now would be a good time to take care of it, before I go to the Black Hills in late April/early May. I know that the book says to replace both the Master and the Slave, but honestly, its just not in the budget. The fluid is clean as I've flushed it probably 5 times in 20k miles. My big question is more about the hydraulic clutch cables. I feel like with 29 year old rubber, it may be time to replace the cable. I looked online and could only find the part for 90 or more dollars, and to be quite honest, that little bit of added security isn't worth 90 bucks to me. I will, in the future, replace the hydraulic brake cables because the brakes undergo some serious heat and pressure, but I feel like something relatively light duty like the clutch cable really doesn't need replaced unless its rotting from the inside. How big of a job is it to replace the clutch cables? Also, is there a cheaper, more generic cable I can go for with the right size fittings for the bike? If I do change it, what are the lengths I should get??? Thanks in advance guys!!

55 in 5th on it is right at 3000rpms, if you follow the speedometer. I know that mc speedos are a little off. I don't shift until at least 42 hundred, but I could see being at 55 in 5th on the speedo on a mostly flat road you could pull 42, just because there's not a lot of wind resistance. But I never ride that slow I usually do about 68

55 should be classified as legal torture! I set it at about 63 which I think is right at 60. Agree that its sure as hell too slow for me too! I just wanted to see the numbers I could pull lol

Hey guys! I was so proud of the ol' girl I just had to say something!!! Monday was about 60, so I decided to take the Venture out for a ride up to the river and just do some general cruising. The wind was blowing hard, as it frequently does in Nebraska, so I decided to see what I could get for max mileage if I went about 63 on the speedometer instead of my usual 68. I rode it in fifth while heading west toward Plainview, but after I went north into those +25mph winds I decided to leave her in fourth and continue doing 63. I rode about 70 miles straight into that wind and also through some pretty steep river hills and then had about 45 miles of the wind to my back on the way home. Now my fuel light usually comes on at about 142 miles. It didn't come on until I had 155.5 miles on the tank and when I filled it up I got 40.8 miles to the gallon. Talk about impressed man, I've only ever gotten mileage like that on this bike in California where the speed limit was mostly 55. I never realized how, on a bike that was designed to ride at 55 mph, how much that extra 10mph can really kill the fuel economy! I also on that same tank of fuel did some in town riding, as I was gonna stop to say hi to my dad who was on patrol that day, but couldn't find him and then around another small town looking for a place to pee

I thought that I read on here that the stock horns are adjustable. Think they got them to be pretty damn loud after the adjustment. Its probably something the dealerships never do but are supposed to. That ring a bell to anyone?

Dad had a VTX, I don't remember what year it was though. As fun as that bike was to ride, 100 miles almost killed me on it

I try to show this stuff to Dad when he tries feeding me the whole "Ventures just aren't nearly as dependable as Goldwings"

Will this oil filter adapter work?

Good call @Flyinfool ! I think puc raises a good point about the cooling fins on the oem filter cap. I think i'll just order the original filters in bulk. Thanks for the heads up guys! -
I'd have to say the Ventures, Voyagers, Goldwings, Vulcan Voyagers, RSVs and the like are luxury tourers. That being said, I'd be interested in the MT-10 but if I was going to go that route I'd take the what is it called? FJR1300

Hey guys! Its been a few months since I posted, boy 2016 was one hell of a year and I'm hoping in 2017 we can go back to the norm. Anyways, I'm buying my brother's old 2003 Honda CB900F Nighthawk from his wife which means I'll be needing a full face helmet. My brother took his life in September and I dug his bikes out to let them run a little bit and I hopped on the CB900 and she had 36,001mi on her when I sat on her that night so I decided then and there that he left her like that for me. His other bike is his 88 Goldwing which I really had no interest in, plus his wife wants to keep it. With me and my brother it was always Goldwing Vs. Venture, so I'd be doing us both a disservice if I acquired the GW. She was on the fence about selling me the 919 but after I took her for a ride she decided she wont sell it to anyone but me. My parents aren't too thrilled about me getting a rocket, but like I tried to explain to them, its more of a super street bike than a rocket, but they never really cared Enough rambling though; this brings me to my question. The cheap full face lid that he wore let ALOT of wind noise through, and the screen fogged up terribly all the time. I'm interested in a full face helmet that doesn't whistle and abuse your ear drums while you ride. I typically don't wear ear protection when I ride, that's why I ride a Venture and not a windshieldless cruiser, so really the inside volume of the helmet is going to be the big seller for me. If at all possible I would like the visor to go up and down, but I feel like that's going to let a lot of wind noise in with an adjustable wind visor. Basically I'm asking what you guys ride when you go full face and what are the pros and cons of your full face helmets? PS: It doesn't really need to be a cold weather full face as I'll take the venture if its chilli. THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY!!!

Hey guys! I have a guy interested in buying my clutch basket but I want to make sure I sell him the right one. Looking through past posts it says on the outer gear on the back side of the basket that a letter and a number shOuld be engraved on it. Mine says 124 on the back of it but I see no letter. The 1 looks like it couldve been an I someone did a bad job of writing in. So does anyone have a picture of where the label is?

Hey yall! Been awhile since I've been on the site with moving and not having home internet and all. Anyways I got back from a trip to Colorado 2 weeks ago and while I was climbing one of the mountains 2 up with the bike fully loaded it just died on me. Plop... nothing... no spitting or sputtering just died. I had a passanger on the back and all the stuff for a 4 day trip loaded up. We were doing about 15 in first just putting up the hill and the fan was on but the temp wasn't in the red by any means. I thought right away that the TCI went out and i'd have to back it down this steep mountain but there was noone around so I shut the key off and sat for about 60 seconds, flipped they ket on and went. Put on about 700 or so miles since then without a single hiccup. That's the only time I've ever been unsure about my 27 year old bike
