  1. I suppose every little bit helps. I sent along a few $$$. Hope things start goin' well for him and his family.
  2. YES !!! The dent is right across one of the edge lines that shapes the tank, which will make this a tough repair. If I can get a tank that's in good shape, or at least not so seriously damaged, I'd be all over it. I'm OK with paint and light Bondo work, but trying to reform the body lines is tough. I'd love to have another option. Thanks
  3. Hey, I have a cabin over that a way. Near Sinnemahoning, PA.
  4. Don't know what happened. I was loading her up on a trailer to take her to a local shop to get new tires put on. I strapped the front end down, and went around back to put a couple of tie downs at the rear. I was fumbling with one of the tie downs on the backside, and BAM !! one of the front straps came unhooked, and the bike fell, with the tank landing across the side rail of the trailer. I have no clue how that strap came unhooked. Gremlins..... A tough fix, but I guess I'll have to give it a try.
  5. Wow ! Thanks. I frequently work in Hilliard, so I'll put the letter in the van and drop it off in person next time I'm over that way. If she thinks I'm you, that's cool, I wouldn't want to confuse her. I'll post again after I drop it off and let y'all know how it went.
  6. Cool, Thanks I hoped this great resource may be able to help.
  7. I put an ad in the Chillicothe Craigslist Rants&Raves on the off chance someone down there will recognize the name. I'm not gonna put too much effort into it, but if I get no info back, I'll give it to my Dad (90 yrs old, a WWII Vet, and he still frequents a VFW) Maybe someone at the VFW will be able to get it where it needs to be.
  8. The wife was helping a friend sort through some old stuff to have a garage sale. She found a letter from Pvt. Wetzel McCoy, from Otway, OH, dated May 7th, 1944 to a Mr. James McCoy. I did a quick search on Wetzel and found that he was KIA on February 9th, 1945. No more info was available. Just a name on a list. I was thinking if there were any surviving relatives, I'd like to get this letter to them. Looks like what you'd expect from a young soldier in basic training, he seemed to be doing well and excited about his service. In any case, if anyone knows how to trace such lineage, let me know.

  10. Put me down for 1 - 9" 1 - 11" Thanks:cool10:
  11. Wow.....I figgered I'd post a pic and came to realize I really don't have many pictures of myself. I'm usually the one with the camera taking pics, and don't include myself in them. I gotta do something about that. In any case, the only one I found on my laptop is 5 or 6 years old. I don't think I look too much different. Just a little older. In any case it's close enough that you'd still recognize me.
  12. I'd be interested in a 6 pin.
  13. Hey....I just Mapquested it, and it's not as far as I thought. 400 miles.
  14. Well, then,...maybe we should just do a deal. I sent ya a pm. Thanks:cool10:
  15. I thought about doing the scooter thing, but to get one that will carry the warden and I at highway speeds will be more expensive than an enduro, and would weigh at least as much. Plus, with an enduro I may get the chance to play once in a while.
  16. Now that's tempting. I talked about it with the wife, and we pretty much decided that I need to clear out the stable a bit to make some room, then I'd buy a newer KLR. I'm gonna sell my Nighthawk cb700sc, (cool bike but I never ride it), will also sell the 82 cb900 custom, (needs cleaned up and minor resto work), and also gonna lose the 93 Katana 600, (might just dump it, but all I know that it needs is paint). I was thinking I'd spend in the neighborhood of $5k, which should get a pretty late model. At $2K, yours might be the way to go. Would there be any issues with riding it the 12 or so hours back to Central Ohio?
  17. For some strange reason, no one seems very interested in taking cats. The mama had a litter of 6, and as soon as they get a bit older I'm gonna round up the whole bunch and take them to a shelter. No....I'm not gonna "whack" 'em,....don't know that I'd have the heart to do it, but the best I can do is send them off to a shelter; preferably a "no kill" one. If anyone out there knows someone who wants a kitten, lemme know.
  18. Thanks, I'll let ya know if I end up gettin' it.
  19. I don't typically let them sit that long. Even when I don't use a bike, ...weather permitting.....I'll take it for a short ride once a month of so just to keep it "fresh". In the Winter I start 'em once a month and run 'em long enough to warm up a bit.
  20. The KLRs seem to have parts readily available, and a pretty good network of support.......of course nothing as great as this site.......but seems like some dedicated klr owners out there. I might be starting to like the idea of a KLR......of course I'll have to ride one to be sure.
  21. I love tax time. The government "gives" me a bunch of money every year at tax time.
  22. This guy is asking $2k for it. I'm really not looking for a newer one since I really won't get much use out of it. I doubt it'll get 500 miles a year use. Since I posted the thread I've been researching it, finding mixed answers, and lots of mention of the "doohickey" upgrade. The bulk of the owners don't seem to think 32 k miles is much of a problem.
  23. I've been considering buying an enduro to use when travelling with the motorhome. I figure that style of bike will be light enough to carry on the trailer hitch, rather than to have to pull a trailer to haul my Venture. It wouldn't be used for much more than short hops; giving me an easy option to leave the "mothership" to run errands and such. I have a lot of experience with air cooled enduros, had an xl350, an xl500, an xr600 and a TT500. They were all air cooled single cylinder. I'm looking at a 97 Kawasaki KLR650, which is liquid cooled, but it has 32,000 miles on it. That seems like a lot of miles. This bike will have minimal use, but my old air cooled thumpers would have never made it that long without a top end rebuild. How many miles should I expect to get out of an adult ridden, liquid cooled thumper like this?
  24. I pulled the trigger too. I pulled it on my mini 14....one of the "problem" groundhogs around my place made the mistake of showing himself in the woods today. That aside, I'm not a big fan of Hi point handguns. They're heavy and clunky, but to give them their due, they are a great value, and I believe they offer a lifetime warranty on their guns. That said, a buddy of mine has a .45 and it's never given him any trouble at all. If yours gives you trouble, they'll take care of it. I also don't see the justification in ultra expensive handguns. I have a Taurus 40 and a Sigma .380 for ccw use. I have a hi point 9mm carbine and I love it. (also a great short range groundhog gun) Shoot your Hi point, then try out a more expensive handgun, and if the differences aren't that noticeable or aren't that important, then you've made the right choice. Enjoy
