Drilling Stock Mufflers
Jthomas replied to Whitlow's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Im 3rd owner and it looks like I have after market pipes. They say BUB on the cone. Any idea of how these compare to these mods people are talking about? I got vance & hines on my old bike i sold to my neighbor, so i hear that amazing pipes all the time, makes me miss them. It gave my little 750 shadow a good deep throaty sound. My RSV is similar or slightly louder in volume but more like a roar, but not quite as throaty. -
I wish I could say, but I just have a 2nd gen. Give it a shot, then let us know.

Where? Are we able to have more than 1 location to better reach more people? -
Just installed a LED bulb from superbrightleds.com; P/N H4-HLV4-M Even though the new bulb's power comsumption is only 18.6W, as opposed to the stock which is 60/55W, it flickers when first powering up the bike while the fuel pump is kicking in. Is this normal? I havent taken it out on the road yet because I'm gonna do some other work while I have the fairing split. I really hope the flickering is only during initial power up because my wife has epilepsy and can be sensitive to flickering lights. While I'm here...ya'll know the part number for the bolt that holds the light bar in place? Had to dremel one of them in order to get that stupid thing off.

So i didnt switch to reserve fast enough because cruise control countered the dropping in fuel pressure. Got stuck in a not ideal part of the interstate at night waiting for the carbs to slowly fill back up. After several attempts of starting my battery was starting to get low so i had to turn everything off and wait several more minutes. Killing the headlights killed the flashers. Got it started back up shortly and no issues making it home. But that leaves me wondering if i can rewire the hazards to run while off or at least in ACC so i can stay safer but minimize battery drain. Seems simple, just redirect the switch to ACC, right? Anybody done this and/or think this is a good idea?

I went riding w friends and one turned me onto this sweet GPS for bikers. Its called Calimoto, and its not just California. Itll auto set the route through windy/scenic routes instead of normal GPSs that just take you the most direct way. You can tell it to generate a random round trip ride too if you just want to go somewhere. Share and see others rides in your area.

driving lights, saddlebag guards, and full LED

Thanks to this thread I got new LED headlight on order and those reflectors look amazing. Any luck with LED passing lights that are simple plug and play? -
Many diapers and mats just absorb a large amount of fluids but allow excess to still leak through. Doggy/puppy pads absorb not quite as much but they don't let the oils and stuff leak through. They cheap and really kept my garage floor clean. Also saved my paint job from chemicals by laying some on the areas at risk while lubricating/servicing.

I bet if they did go start a fire the family would sue the gas station and/or gas companies for making gas flammable. Thats when hitting the emergency pump shut off button may come in handy.

Before getting stationed in Commoniefornia we lived in the country in southern MD. Every neighbor, including the little old widow, were armed. Lovee it, we could literally shoot from out deck and had a field dedicated as a range. Got to CA, my wife noticed one of the gun cases had a sticker "not legal in California". Ripped it off, now its legal.

Cool. I'll add this to my winter do list

How bright are the low beam and driving lights? I hate it when people get the ultra bright lows that blind everybody in anything smaller than a semi. I want to see well but not blind everybody, leave that job to the highs.

Ive tried uploading pictures of my bike but I always get the failure to upload. Phone or computer, no luck. Also how do you that map showing where Ive ridden, and is that only ridden w the venture or bikes in general?

Cool, I was just making sure I didn't have a cooling issue since I haven't added a gage cluster...yet.
-
I normally ride my 09 750 shadow to work because it's better on gas and the clutch doesn't give my hand a work out while slowly making my way on base. After riding the shadow i noticed the cooling fan only needs to run for a few seconds after shutting off. But my 07 RSV's fan can take several minutes before shutting off. Is this normal and/or ok? The coolant is full and clean. Ive never had an overheat warning come on.

Whats the Baron front brake adapter? A gage that attaches to the brake reservoir? Is there a port to plug in a OBDII reader? I just remember i have a bluetooth one that i can use my phone to monitor everything.

So I've seen a some guys have changed out the tape deck for a small gage cluster for oil, battery, and temp. I would rather have a tach and maybe a temp gage if possible. Anybody know of a tach mod that would fit nicely into the tape deck slot. If I do this though, am I gonna have to completely give up my AUX in or is there a simple (non-electrician) way to bypass the tape deck? Jon Thomas 07 RSV

Here i go again, noob question. Freebird is probably rolling his eyes by now. What is good idle speed? Without having a tach its hard to tell if my bike is idling high or just sounds bad ass. I roll through my apartment complex at idle doing about 11 mph. Also, is it normal for it to have a weak idle at first but then sound like it racing after riding on the highway for a bit?

Anybody else waves at cops, even those in cars?
-
I notice there isnt nearly as much waving in California as the other states I've lived in. LA, VA, and MD its almost a crime not to wave but here its a meh thing.
-
Cool. Where are these wires located at?
-
Has anybody modified their lights so that the aux lights operate in low beam instead of just high beam? I would think it would be fairly simple. 07 RSV

Cassette/aux door not closing
Jthomas replied to Jthomas's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I fixed my issue w a shot of pb blast on either side. Then I placed a puppy pad over the front wheel in case any exess drips down. -
Wow I cant believe how easy and effective a couple shots of PB Blast! Now I feel dumb for even asking lol. Thanks.

Hey y'all, Recently transferred to San Diego from Maryland for the Navy. Wife and I want to do a lot of trips on this side of the USA while we are here once we find a dog sitter. Are there any fellow riders here that are in the San Diego area? Also, what is the most affordable wired headset for 3/4 & modular helmets? Google is confused when I'm asking for them and keep giving me mixed results. Many of the links that people post here about their headsets are no longer valid. I would prefer a set up with a removable mic since I ride solo a lot and dont need a mic full time.
