BTW: Can someone please tell all these idiots hoarding toilet paper that WE DON'T IMPORT TOILET PAPER.

Several things to point out. A 62% pay hike over 6 years. That's more than 10% each year. I have a friend whose son works at the docks in Houston. He said he already makes well over 100K per year with OT. Using 100K as a starting point in 6 years with OT that would put him very close to if not over 200K per year. The Union leader trying to negotiate that made 900K last year. These types of increase will 100% be passed on to the consumer. Heck if I were 20 or so years younger, I would have crossed that picket line for those numbers. The only thing that will help stem these increases would be automation. Which the union is trying to block 100%. Some of the changes I've read about pensions are really up there too. Some wanted retirement available at 55 to pull from the pensions at 80% of their final 4 years of pay averaged out. As you can tell I am not a fan of unions. For what they did to my dad as well as to me. Myself I was associated to a union for all of 3 weeks when I was too stupid to know better.

Need advice
bpate4home replied to mnorton3256's topic in Links to Classifieds, Craigslist, Ebay, Sales, Etc.
I'm 5'6 with a 29" inseam and had no issues with my '06. Yes, it could be awkward at times mainly when trying to pull it backwards into a parking spot. That is one of the reasons I went to the SVTC, a little lower BUT it has electric reverse/forward. -
East coast friends keep an eye on the front of the east coast. This weekend it could become a tropical depression. This is Sunday night with winds around 60mph.

Sorry for your loss.

This is the bike that enamored me to the Venture. I was 17 when they first came out and a friend getting ready to go into the Army decided he was going to buy one. Going to the dealer he took it on a test ride and bought it. I rode it the next day and was able to ride a wheelie in 3rd gear. I fell in love with that bike. He had it for abut 4 years and I wish I would have bought it off him, just couldn't afford it. I did get to own a gen 2 and now own a gen 3. If the frame is not an issue, I think you're going to have a lot of fun with this bike.

I've run 87 in all of my bikes. Never had any back firing issues accept on my Gen 2. Higher Octane did not resolve that. Had the carbs cleaned and checked, problem resolved.

Rider lost in Death Valley due to the high temperatures
bpate4home replied to BlueSky's topic in Watering Hole
On long trips where there may be long gaps of open road, I'll have a camel pack with me. When it's 100+ here in Houston you could lose a lot of water through sweat quickly. I've got about an hour ride home and several times have had to stop to get some water or Gatorade. Sometimes you just need to stop more often than with every tank of gas. -
One of the things I do for our Firm is tracking and preparing our offices for anything that might impact us. Below is what I sent to upper management about Beryl and its impact on the Houston area. Beryl is about to make landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula as a strong CAT 2 storm. It will weaken substantially over land enter the Gulf as a Tropical storm where it will slowly strengthen to a CAT 1 storm. The converged tracks have moved north to Brownsville TX with US landfall early Monday. The forecast cone still has Houston (nearly all of the TX coast) in the cone of possibility. The European model has moved slightly south with a landfall near Lake Jackson TX as a CAT 2 storm with the track right over downtown Houston. The American model has moved north with landfall near Corpus Christi as a CAT 1 storm with the path west of Houston closer to San Antonio. In either of these scenarios Houston could see 6+ inches of rain. Forecast cone: Spaghetti models European Model (ICON) Landfall prediction GFS Model (American) landfall prediction

Gen 3's are a different beast. 3 drain plugs and 2 fill locations. Same tools though.

I believe there are digital copies here in the files section. Place it on a thumb drive and forget the CD. Computers haven't come with a CD ROM in 7 - 10 years unless it was a added request on order.

Beautiful ride into work this morning in Houston. 74 when I left the house ~5:30. Don't actually come into the office regularly anymore. Pre Plandemic I was in every day and that would generate about 11 - 12,00 miles a year but now . . . . Need to make more time for just riding with no destination in mind.

On my '06 I had something similar to this. Drove me nuts for about 6 months. Then one day I would see the fan on and then it would shut off pretty quick. I replaced the fuse and the problem went away. I don't know why but it did.

Navigation System Updates
bpate4home replied to American's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Not the latest version for the system. I'm currently on 12.0.6 for the system version, not sure if this is the latest though. . Not sure how to check the Maps version. -
This weekend is somewhat a somber one. While we celebrate Memorial day with our picnics, BBQs and other events PLEASE remember all of those that were lost to give us the freedoms we have. To that end we also need to remember those who came home but we lost in the longer battle of recovery from their service. With special attention to those veterans we've lost to suicide due to PTSD. I personally had a friend I hadn't spoken to in quite a while call me early this year who had recently lost a son to suicide. These soldiers tend to be the forgotten ones but who also need to be remembered.

I wonder where he got the Ramrod ethic? Maybe from his mentor? LOL. Glad to hear it's going well.

Today was the 40K mile service. Always fun stuff.
-
That is good news. I'm sure you can get some of our brothers here to come and ride your bike too LOL.

That just means we'll have some fun at each others expense occasionally. LOL. I worked at a company 20 years or so ago. One of the network engineers was from Kiev and was learning English. It could be frustrating and funny. He actually bought 2 translation books at the time, 1 Russian to English and 1 English to Russian. I don't remember any of the Russian but he speaks English very well. At times I wish I would have actually tried to learn it.

It's cool to see this thread going since 2016. All the comments and pics are great to look back on occasionally.

Must've been a weekend curse. A while back my sone hit a raccoon with his Kia Optima. It busted the radiator and the AC condenser. We replaced the radiator right away but he went all summer last year without AC. 100 degrees + for most of it. He saved and got the replacement condenser, compressor motor and lines. He did the work this weekend to install it and still no AC. I was working on fixing some pool lines that had a small leak and what should have been 30 minutes turned into 6 hours. Just finding small leaks. On the last one no one had the right gaskets (The filter housing is from 2005) so I ended up buying a rubber tool mat and making them.
