  1. I saw your video about your fall down the stairs. I hope the surgery went well and that your recovering quickly. i just got back from a regional meeting with another forum out in Maggie Valley. LOTS of great roads to ride that you could literally hang around the area for two weeks and not see them all. I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen very few of these SVTC’s out on the road. One guy came up from Atlanta, so here’s a rare pic of TWO of them together in the “wild”. Hope to see you on the road sometime. God bless & ride safe!
  2. Nice there Paul! BTW, how’s the bike doing for you? Just outta curiosity, how many miles have you racked up on her so far? Hope you got that fog light shroud fixed! 👍
  3. Didn’t know that, but took a stab at it. I had over 120k mikes in mine and never heard what you speak of.
  4. I believe that the XVZ1300 right? I had a 91 and what I found to deal with any clutch slip (and the reason for the chirping) is this: 1st I’d recommend replacing the clutch plates & rings. Then when you go to put it back together you’ll notice the clutch spring is nothing more than a concave ring which sits in a retainer basket. I installed a SECOND clutch spring stacked on the first. The retainer basket is deep enough to still catch 75% of the depth of the ring to properly retain it. I had learned about this back in 1993 from a tech tip on what was the Venture Touring Society. Now mind you, you WILL feel MORE clutch lever pull but your clutch will NEVER slip again.
  5. I took mine back on the 4th day after I bought to do the 600 mile break in service. Got over 12k mikes this far and am gonna rack up some more here the next couple days. Going to a Maggie Valley Rally with a different forum 20-22nd. Gonna be riding Dragons Tail, Cherahala Hey, Blue Rdge etc... Have another guy showing up (whom I’ve already met) with his Gray SVTC. Gonna have to get me one of those pics of riding the Dragons Tail. I’ve already become accustomed to dragging the boards in the corners. She just handles so solid in them I wish I could get her over further! Then again, I’ve seen how far over that drag point is when I dropped the bike a while back. Back to the MPG; I’ve found that when doing a bunch of twisty’s like the Dragons Tail that she does better when in Sport Mode. You DO have to make sure you turn the Traction Control ON for that. I’ve rolled on it hard coming out of a turn and broke the back end loose from the torque. Just word of caution on that. I too love the low RPM feel of this bike at crusing speeds. It’s a very relaxed and “un-busy” feel to it.
  6. I’m not gonna re-hash the oil issue, but since it is a flat tappet type lifter, I have upgrade to YamaLube 15w-50 full synthetic with esther. A lttile more expensive but worth the peace of mind to me. Bike has run great since the valve job and my mileage (without babying it) is consistently 42mpg. That’s very impressive for a big bore bike like this. I do note that the mileage drops quickly when you cruise above 75mph. Once you stop adding stuff to your bike and actually start RIDING IT, you’ll see what I mean. BTW, I have a Kuryakyn cup holder. The chrome one with the stainless insulated cup. I had to wait almost 3 months to get it because it was backordered.
  7. There were a couple of us trying to “track” this in the event there was a number of them. It doesn’t appear that there was a “grouping” or “serail # range” affected since to date, ONLY 2 instances can be found. Mine and one other guy. If the issue I had was wide spread, you’d have angry owners all over the internet and forums voicing their displeasure. Thorough searches reveal NO SUCH PROBLEMS. IMHO Don, I think you can relax and enjoy your bike with confidence and just chalk up the TWO known incidences to what it is... a “fluke”.
  8. I’ve even gone so far as to discuss having the rims chromed and the black area re-painted. I think it would look SHARP with chrome next to the black. It’s ONLY $500 per rim. I’m spending my daughters inheritance!
  9. Yamaha did their best to make it “idiot proof”, but we all know that the “idiots” upgrade every year, so nothing is fool proof! Lol! Glad it’s coming together for you. I like the style of the trunk rack and lid covers, but I want CHROME, so I have to pay EXTRA after I get them to have them chromed.
  10. It is really easy Don. After you pull the 5 screws, there are 3 of those rubber grommet type retainers that hold it on. Piece of cake! One of your main fuse blocks is located under the left side. Just mentioned it so you’re familiar with it’s location.
  11. Not at all Leo. Actually very impressed and JEALOUS!
  12. That’s what I thought it was supposed be, two wheels only.
  13. Mate you serious Leo? You’ve been to all 48 contiguous stars by bike? I’ve been through many more states by Car but only filled in the ones I’ve been to on two wheels.
  14. I’ve got over 12k miles on mine. You’re gonna LOVE it!
  15. I never saw one in person, sat on or rode one until I took delivery of mine 29 Dec 2017.
  16. i kinda thought she would be Don. There’s PLENTY of room back there, so I was surprised you were already looking at trying to move it back. Could it be you were going on the assumption of what was needed with your RSV? Just a thought.
  17. Its not like that on the new SVTC’s. It’s sounds GREAT and I know there’s others here who can attest to that same fact.
  18. Weird. Light rain then heavy then light then heavy. Apparently rain bands. Will will go from nothing to strong gusts and back to nothing. The woworst of it will hit over here after midnight. Yet the strong gusts have already caused a few problems with downed trees and power lines. I made it out to the store earlier before it got nasty. We got the essentials so we’re good... Vodka, Rum & Fireball plus some Crown Royal Reserve.
  19. For just a pic of the horn, just look up “WOLO Bad Boy”. I was able to use the stock horn mounting bracket with slight modification. You have to rotate it 90 degrees and cut a new slot for the locking tab and also put about a 30 degree bend in it that moves it farther away from the front wheel. If you don’t do that, your brake lines coming down to the front wheel will rub on it. Even though the SVTC stock horn has a relay used, the circuit will not handle the load and you’ll blow a fuse behind the left fairing cover. Trust me, I KNOW! Here’s about the best pic I could get of it mounted. Hopefully the video link to my YouTube channel shows up.
  20. Thats a GOOD thing! Was wondering about the cables too. That’s good info to have. Thanks for putting it out there.
  21. Hey Don, have you tried to open your gas tank lid since you put the risers in? I had heard from someone else who put them in that it makes fueling a bit more “gnarly”. Handlebars MUST be Centered to open it.
  22. I received a very nice quality 8GB USB Drive when I bought my bike. I guess my dealer (great people) supplied it as I soon found out many others did not get one. I also got the credit card looking one. Very innovative design, but I’ll save it as a backup if needed. Hope you’re enjoying the bike!
  23. You really didn’t miss anything, I assure you.
  24. Im sorry that had to happen. I too hope he finds what he’s looking for but I doubt It. Similiar issues occurred on the other forum he went to. I wish him well.
  25. The YamaLube was a bit pricey compared to the QS, but they had $3 off per qt. so it was 10.99 per qt and takes 6 to do with filter.
