  1. Smart idea with the blanket! I think I need to get a set of these. I wouldn’t mind being able to lean back just a bit more. As it is now, if I lean back to where I want to, I have my fingers curled over the top of the grips but not a “full grip” if you understand my meaning. soeaking of “additions/mods” has anyone put one of the taller wider windshields on? I had one in my 91 Venture Royale and liked the extra protection. It also helped the wife not get buffeted so much. The 3rdP one out there right now is 2.5” taller and 4” wider.
  2. I’ve had mine up to 125mph and it still had room to go. There is NO WAY it was struggling at 103 or 108. I had ZERO problems setting cruise control at 90mph and kicking back with one hand on the handlebars because it was that stable. The engine was not struggling AT ALL and was just “purring” like it could run there all day. As a matter of fact, I ran that speed for 2hrs on a short trip I took and was still getting over 38 mpg. Heck, at 90mph in 6th it was only turning about 3200 rpm. There was PLENTY to go! Just rolled on the throttle and she shoots right over 100 with NO issue. As far as “top end”, I haven’t had the courage to push it to that for two reasons: one is I don’t like going that fast, and two is I truly get worried about being thrown in jail and having my bike confiscated for reckless driving.
  3. WOW Ron, that’s a great price! Wonder why my search for that tire size didn’t show up the Dennis Kirk link? I could’ve got my tire $45 cheaper. Then again my dealership matched the $180 price I found online. Wonder if they’d have matched the $137.00 ?? Oh well, it is what it is. I’ll dig deeper next time.
  4. I’ll let you know how she runs as I put some miles on it. It’s same tread and everything as the OEM, but different in the areas I mentioned. It is nice to know we have some options now.
  5. Hi folks, we all have been upset at the cost of the Excedra rear tire cost at over $300 bucks a pop! Well, I have some good news on a few fronts. First, I just had an Excedra Max 200/60VR16 put on. Yes, it’s slightly taller (less than 1/2” radius) than the 55 but has no problem fitting in the wheel well. Secondly, you’ll notice the “V” rating which is for 149mph. That’s good because the stock is only rated to 134mph despite the fact the bike can go higher. That’s now no longer an issue. It also has a 79 load rating, so it’s rated at 963lbs, about 150lbs higher than stock. A consideration for those who tow. Third, it seems the actual speedometer is now matching the speed listed over ground in the GPS. Lastly the price... can find it online for under $185! That’s right, better performance and cheaper! I was able to get my dealership to match the online price. Total installed was $287.00 Just wanted to get this out there for those who might need a tire soon. I got 15k miles out of mine. Here’s the info: https://www.amazon.com/Bridgestone-Exedra-Rear-Motorcycle-Radial/dp/B00A4BGEZ0
  6. They also make a .22cal version of the air rifle. Single breech break just like that. 1200fps is with standard pellets. If you’ll spend a little bit more and get some “Beeman Silverjet” pellets, you’ll increase accuracy, muzzle velocity will be around 1800fps AND it has 25% greater penetration. The pellets are “machined” and have circle seal gas checks which account for the greater velocity and its machined to a fine point... better penetration. I had a .177 with a 4-7x20 Tasco scope sighted in at 60 yards. I’d use it for dove hunting. At that distance and a breast shot, the pellet went THROUGH the bird. Don’t let that it’s an “air rifle” fool you. Those are NOT toys.
  7. I use that site all the time. Great info!
  8. Good point cowpuc. I’m sure the two don’t mix any better than it does with alcohol. Some things just shouldn’t be mixed.
  9. That just reminds me of the movie “The Untouchables” when Elliot Ness was asked what he’d do if they repealed the law in drinking... he said “I’ll probably go have a drink.”
  10. SVTC seat removal is the same. Bad idea on the “seat jiggle”. That movement is metal against metal and will cause wear over time.
  11. I understand the “reaching” feeling. Currently if I want to lean back to relax, I have to hold the ends of the bars. Can’t say I like that. I’d ask how it feels in steering handling compared to stock but I don’t think you really put a lot of miles on in twisty’s to get a solid feel. I’m sure there’s some difference because it changes the pivot point. Maybe you could share your thoughts on this?
  12. No argument there Ron. As a matter of fact, the guy who holds the record on the Dragons Tail is a Darksided Goldwing rider. Motorcycle riding is all about the risks the rider is willing to assume. Whether it be “ape hangar” handlebars or “suicide shifters” or tires... it’s a matter of personal taste and what they feel comfortable with. I was willing to give Darkside a try because I couldn’t find ANY instance of catastrophic failure. Unfortunately I did find one, and that was enough for the wife (and I agreed) to NIX the idea. Having said that, a group rally with another forum I went to had an 80 year old guy riding a Darksided 09 Stratoliner and was tearing up the corners out in Maggie Valley. I was behind him and it was impressive to say the least. For now at least, I’ll stay in the “light”.
  13. Im trying to stick with an MC tire. Looking at a 200/60r16. It has a higher load rating AND speed rating than the OEM. I know there’s plenty of width room. I’m trying to confirm the 1/2” taller radius needed.
  14. I spoke to my dealership and their top tech yesterday. The new SVTC has plenty of room WIDTH wise to handle a 205 series tire. I’m still checking on wheel well height to accommodate the taller profile.
  15. Thanks Don. It doesn’t look like you have them back very far at all.
  16. The closet to stock height is a 205/55r16. From the chart, at 65mph, you are lees than 1mph faster than stock.
  17. Hey Don, you sound “tall” like me. At times I wish I had a little more backward adjustment to the handlebars. Especially when having your feet up on the highway pegs and wanting to “kick back”. Would you mind posting a pic of your risers AND a pic from the side showing how much gas tank cover clearance you have? it would be a pain to change The handlebars, but hat would also keep your gas tank cover clear. WHY they made that thing to open BACKWARDS is beyond me! i appreciate your response Don.
  18. I had contacted Vance & Hines and Cobra directly. They have no plans at this time of producing anything for the New Venture. The issue is that the Catalytic converters are in the muffler slip on portion. I did see a video online of someone showing detailed instructions on how to “drill out” the baffles, but I don’t think it needs it. Yhey sound on this bike actually “matures” over a few thousand miles and actually becomes a bit deeper and a touch louder. Its a very pleasant note that is not intrusive or causes “ringing or droning” in your ears after many hours of riding.. My advice is to WAIT until you have about 5k miles in it BEGORE you make that decision. Give it a chance to “burn in” and the sound to mature. Thats just my 2 cents. I agree with Don on this one.
  19. Youre right Greek. Now that you mention it, I remember American showing pictures of its location 180 DEGREES OPPOSITE the valve stem. Despite my “location error”, my MAIN point is still valid. Any kind of liquid goopy tire sealant WILL make the TPMS... FUBAR.
  20. The one on the SVTV is built into the inside of the rim where the valve stem attaches. I could see any kind of “goopy” tire sealant totally messing that up.
  21. You really needn’t worry. Yamaha would not have offered a 5yr unlimited mileage warranty if they were gonna be on the hook for lots of repairs. Something a lot of people don’t know is that you can have that warranty extended for 4 more years for a total coverage of 9 years! To me, that says they back their product for sure. Yes, I had an issue in the beginning, but they took care of it and I now have 13,500 miles on mine. As with any new release model, it can have issues pop up, but it doesn’t seem to be any more than any other Yamaha models previously. It’s just that this one is getting a lot of scrutiny. There are a lot of SVTC owners who’ve not had any problems AND Long Haul Paul is now racking up the miles on one of his own. Trust me when I say, this is the best touring bike I’ve ever owned. Even Freebird is really enjoying his!
  22. Won’t that sealant jack up your TPMS sensor? It’ll plug it up.
  23. For real? Walmart will Mount it? I know I have to bring them the tire & rim. Never used dyna beads. Where do you get them and how do you put them in?
  24. Well, despite my vocal opposition to “Darksiding”; after watching closely from the rear and 80 y/o guy tear up the corners in Maggie Valley on a “Darksided” 09 Stratoliner I was really impressed. Did the research for a tire and found one but can’t find ANY MC or tire shop near me who will put it on the rim. 🤨 I’m over 13k miles and due for a rear tire but DO NOT want to pay $300+ for a tire. if I have to stick with a MC tire I’ve found a much larger selection available if I’m will to go with 200/60r16 instead of the stock 200/55r16. Any comments of suggestions??
  25. Not a bad idea Ron. The bike comes with ONE key fob but TWO emergency keys. One is locked into the fob and the other can be stored away as you’ve stated.
