  1. ...come to Papillion and talk me down off this ledge! I've got countless hours and so much money I'm ashamed to speak about it into this stupid venture. I get one nearly 500 Mile weekend, pull this piece of crap out and take a 30 mile ride on Wednesday and I have this freaking leak in the radiator that I've had to reattach the stupid overflow tube back on 5 times. This last patch is perfect! And the other end of the damn radiator starts leaking out of nowhere! I'm either going to park this effin thing in the backyard and use it as a planter or plant myself and push up daisies! I've been out of work since mid-march with all the Time in the World to ride this thing I've been working on for a year and I got 500 miles out of it. I've been working on it constantly and this is what I get for my efforts. Ok, I have been blessed with one job referral from a guy who knows a guy, an interview two days later,a job offer, a job accepted and it's a great opportunity! The job? Selling new and used Vehicles at the metro area's premier Toyota dealer! ( I am very blessed to be able to go back to selling Vehicles again. Even though I got sidetracked by medical sales for 23 years, I always loved that work when I did it before. And now with the family out of the house and just me and the little dog, the hours won't be a problem except that it will leave very little time for touring on a motorcycle.) I guess I'll just park this POS where I can walk by and kick it in the knee everyday and sell enough cars to buy a new SVTC next Spring.
  2. And money! She's an ugly old gal but she's MY ugly old gal. Let's just say if 10 of them were lined up at the curb and 10 thieves happened to come by, one of the thieves would walk home. I would love to meet up. Today I'm going to accept a sales position at Village Pointe Toyota so my ride time is going to be somewhat Limited. But I would love to take one of those days and meet somewhere. I will have Sundays off. Today my goal is to get the spacers in the top of my Forks replace and I have to find out which one of the black drain hoses came off. It was hanging down a foot when I finished my 270 mile ride last Sunday. I tugged on it and pulled out about 3.5' . Makes me think it had to be either the overflow tube from the throat of the fuel tank or the battery breather tube which doesn't connect to any battery anyway. Last night I went for a little ride and smelled anti-freeze although I can't see a leak anywhere. ( since the drain tube from the Overflow bottle is a clear tube I know that that wasn't the one that came out) I also had oil under the cover where the clutch slave is but after my weekend riding it's dry down there and never has dripped enough to make a spot on ground but my kickstand switch has sent some signals while on the highway so I need to clean that up. I have been working on that thing since March really hard and I've managed to get one almost 500-mile weekend out of her. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
  3. I've got to do a couple more things to my bike and was just offered a new job but we should meet somewhere! https://scenicbyways.info/byway/2187.html ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.

  6. Sounds alot like when I repair anything on my 83! If it isn't done twice, it isn't done right! Bunches of folks on here tell me as I'm telling you, "Think of how experienced you've become in a year!" I repaired my anti-dive units last week and thought I was being smart to improve the ride by cutting the PVC spacers down to 5/8" from the 2" ones that were in there. NOT ENOUGH PRE-LOAD! (She drove really well after adding 11 lbs of pressure to the forks and I got almost 500 miles in two days) but tomorrow I get to tear it apart and put in newly cut 1 1/4" spacers. DOH!
  7. Just a little twist to the "what did you do to your venture today" thread. Today I drove down to Northwestern Missouri. An hour down on I-29 and cruising around Mound City and Oregon and Forest City. 235 mi in 4 and 1/2 hours. Interstate at 80 miles an hour and those blacktop County Roads which are really nice around 60 miles per hour. The old girl is starting to pay me back for all the labor and money I've put into her! Once I got over listening for every little thing and Started Loving the way she handled and just flat out ran I had a lot of fun. Stopped and enjoyed my peanut butter & bacon sandwich at River Breaks Conservation area down in the bluffs East of the Missouri River. (Photo) My kickstand warning light came on for about 5 miles when I was nearing the end of my trip and I flipped it down and back up again and it went out. I was afraid if I stopped it would die on me and I wouldn't get to get home with it but that didn't happen. I've also got one black drain hose that keeps getting longer below the bike but I can't pull on it and have it come out or find out where it's coming from yet. I'm thinking it must be an overflow from the gas tank or carburetors? ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.

  9. I should probably mention that I cut the PVC spacers in the top of my Forks to 5/8 of an inch which isn't enough preload. Wants the top out with minimal provocation. I'll cut some an inch long and try them after today. I ran with no air in the forks and today I'm running with 11 lb. She handled it better than she's ever ridden before with none of the swim action and very stable through curves that used to wobble at 60- 75 miles an hour. 1 Interstate exit particularly where you get off at 80 miles an hour and curve up to the intersection and it would want to swim on me there as I lean through that curve and then decelerated. It's a very long curve and exit. I haven't decided whether today's trip will take me North through the less Hills in Iowa towards Sioux City or down into northwest corner of Missouri around Tarkio and north of St Jo. Both are pretty rides but Missouri's about 60 miles of flat Missouri River Valley on Interstate 29 till I get to the pretty part in the Hills that start in Northwest Missouri. But first I have to walk the little dog who's been pouting for about two hours while I putts around with my bike in the garage. He hates any attention I give to motorcycles telephones and tablets! 10. 170 mile day. Only caught the attention of one County Sherif while excelerating up to speed limit out of a turn onto a new highway. He heard me do it but I saw him decelerating for a left turn as I zipped by. Watched my mirror for two miles and didn't see him u-turn. 3 more miles and he shows up in my mirror! I was cruising along politely at 60 MPH and he got right up on me then backed off to follow me for 8 more miles. That sucker had to be FLYING to catch up to me! He got to have some fun at extremely high speed while I was stuck at 60! Just seems wrong... Loud pipes don't always attract the attention you like! Only a little buzzed from exhaust fumes at the time. Wish I could find that leak. Sure gonna miss Yammer Dan's advice. Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
  11. Okay so how do I locate the exhaust leak if it's making me high and I can't see it or hear it? I mean I've seen some funky riding gear but this riding around wearing a snorkel just isn't going to cut it even in population deprived Nebraska where not a lot of people have to see me. The other option is my old World War II gas mask but it's not very effective anymore

Road King with no cat. Took some Custom Fabrication on the pipe to get it to fit and then welded a new support to the rear mounting bolt from the saddle bag support. I get a lot of comments on how good this bike sounds. 14. The Schrader wasn't tight! Yay for me! Held 42 lbs for 24 hrs now! (Went ahead and sprayed everything anyway since this stubborn old woman always seems to hit me with two steps backward for every step forward...forehead slap). As many struggles as I've had to get this thing on the road I'm starting to get a little paranoid about whether I'm actually supposed to ride it or not! Filled the forks by measuring 400 ml. method using a science class type glass measuring beaker which didn't allow any liquid to cling to it. (BEIN'S FORK OIL AIN'T LAUNDRY DETERGENT OR MOTOR OIL) Hope it'll be accurate enough but still not convinced that a few drips off on either side could have any effect. I'll know soon enough though. After dripping out for two days with antidives removed (which are a lot lower than the actial drain holes) and drain plugs out and blowing through my bleed tube through my fingers which covered the top of each fork should have given me level volumes in each tube to start from. Now I just have 15 hours to wait for 2nd coat of JB Weld to cure on the the radiator overflow tube and I will be CTFW by 11AM Saturday, Cinco De Mayo! Forecast calls for 86 degrees tomorrow May the 4th be with you all day today! Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
  15. Today I'm pulling the radiator off my 83 to find the 2in PVC spacer dropped somewhere and never hit the floor. I've searched with lights I haven't pulled off the fairing but can't see anywhere where it would be in there. I did pull off the headlamp and vents on the front to look behind to see if it's inside the fairing somewhere but can't find it. I also managed to knock that stupid drain tube off the throat of my radiator again after fixing it 2 weeks ago. Wish I could find a radiator that had one still attached from the factory. This radiator doesn't have any leaks though once that is J-B welded again so I don't want to trade a solid radiator for a drippy one and how do you know until you put it on? I find the ride to be a little stiff with my Progressive Springs that are in there and the spacer that's about two and a half inches long, can I cut the spacer in half and have it not bang over bumps in the road? (And that's with no air in them like that old lop eared varmint does.) I ordered new Progressive Springs before I found out that I already have Progressive Springs with less than 2000 miles on them in there so I have to return those as well or should I put them on the shelf for next time? How long do Fork Springs last? I'm also going to start some controversy here by telling you all that I have drained both sides of the fork as completely as is possible with the anti Dives (new o rings throughout both which includes the flat ones in the top that seal the plunger) and drain plugs pulled and it's set for 2 days now with no more dripping. Here's the part you'll scream about but, Yamaha Factory technician told my friend on the phone, "There is no reason to compress the fork to fill them. Just put 400 ml of fork oil in each side and there's no reason to compress and measure from the top. If you are compressing the forks you're just making yourself a lot of work for no reason." Then I will be closing her up so I can wait for the weather to clear again. Supposed to have a beautiful weekend weather wise so I've got to get this done now and be ready to roll Saturday about 11 when it gets up to 70 degrees. Oh crud, my new rear Tour Master tire (Maybe 1200 miles on it) is losing about 4 pounds a day when riding and I can't find anything in the tire visually. Can I just keep filling it up or should I endeavor to pull the back wheel for the first time to look for a leak? Should I put some stop leak in it? I'm also thinking I'd like to put beads in it for balancing while I'm at it but you can't use the green goo with beads also can you? That wouldn't make any sense to me... 19. Okay so the Yamaha diagram doesn't show it but according to my mechanic Mark Robertson, there is a third O ring and a tiny weep hole at the top of the anti dive unit. He said it took him four tries before they finally found it and fixed the fork oil leak on another anti dive. Also I have near New Progressive Springs already in it. I asked him about the 3-4" spring below the PVC spacer and he explained that that is the top-out spring. I hadn't seen it mentioned in any of the threads I've searched through. He also explained to make sure I mark the cap to where the threads start to bite so that it begins to thread immediately instead of spinning it around till it starts. Those marks were already there from his rebuild so he explained that they always put their mark at the top towards the front of the bike. All great info in my mind. I would still like to just get rid of the anti Dives the next time it starts to leak on me down the road so I still need to find out about the caps from skydock 17. Should I try to get should of him by phone? ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  20. "As for your leaking new o rings, it is possible that the original ones were compressed from age and that the o ring clerk measured the compressed thickness and your new ones are to thin? I do not know what the size should be." -Flyinfool I was thinking the same thing about the O-rings and thought I'd go back today and pick up a couple that are thicker. I quoted the size wrong earlier, what she wrote on the bag was 2.5 by 12. Since the O-ring shop is about 4 blocks from my mechanic, I'm going to swing by the mechanic and see if he put Progressive in, he must have the spacer but why do I need air in it to improve the ride if they're Progressive puc says he never puts air in his Progressive set up? Trying to hit 11 lb with filling it and checking the pressure is a monumental task for me to not lose all that pressure in 1/8 of the blink of an eye! I don't mind the anti dive if it's not leaking! I'm still moving stuff I'm cleaning up my garage to bring home my other workbench and hang all my peg boards which I like to use for tools cuz I can see everything I need without digging through multiple drawers. Then I have to find help to bring home my 8-foot bench. The weather is gorgeous today but there will be more now that that horrible April is nearly over! And thanks to everyone for all your great help! I've learned a little something from all of you and I'm thinking I might have to go to that repair day in Ohio even if I have to go buy car just to meet a bunch of you, and thank you in person and to let you see for yourselves that while I may be a goofball I'm not really stupid or inept. Hahaha ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  21. Thanks camos! That sounds great! Sounds like I what I did pretty much on Monday! Trying to do only one side was dumb, huh? I didn`t remove the wheel though and never have but always a first time! I raised the bike with the lift to get the fork extended but not lifting the tire from the ground. Dropped it back down to compess and squirt out old fork oil. Did you know that if you're dumb enough, that stuff will squirt 6 feet from the anti dive ports? DOH! I had to get my 6'5" 265 lb.neighbor to be able to get the spring compressed enough to start the cap threading back in. There was a 2" PVC spacer at the top and I could get the cap to the top of the fork but not enough to start threading it! (He leaves in the morning to 4 wheel in the Nebraska State Forest out west) My mechanic rebuilt the fork two years ago for the P.O.. I'll stop and see him tomorrow to find out which springs he used at the time. My goal is to get rid of the anti dive and figured to upgrade to progressives. Now I wonder if he put progressives in already (hense the spacer) since none of the threads I've looked up mention pvc spacers with OEM springs? Any ideas for capping the anti dive ports on the fork would be appreciated.
  22. Hoping there are some videos around to show me how to do the springs. Hate the thought of taking the fairing off again as over a third of the mounting tabs/plastic and nuts on tabs are already busted off from Previous owners. I still don't understand why new o-rings only slowed the leak instead of stopping it. What other parts do need to complete the conversion to progressives? Can I reuse the seals that are 3 yr old with very few miles on them and are working fine?? Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
  23. Great to know. I'm supposed to get new progressives by Monday. Still don't know how I'm going to seal off without the anti dives as I haven't had a reply from Skydoc_17 yet. Know of another solution other than his caps/covers? It was not handling great yesterday. I started moving my work area home from my old office/ shop today. Hope to have my garage set back by end of day tomorrow. (I`m optistically choosing to believe that Spring is here finally so won't need the heated space 3 miles from home anymore) Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
  24. They're on their way! Also, you guys probably already know this but while I was with my mechanic he called his contact at Yamaha and found out that each Fork side takes 400ML/CC of fork oil. That way I was able to just fill the one side after draining it. We tried to look it up on the bel-ray conversion site but that thing was put together by somebody who was high! They had yamasuki and other such insane manufacturers. Mostly Chinese I think Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
