  1. Puddle about the size of a dollar bill this morning at 6:30 a.m. . Parked it there last night at 9:30. I'll take a couple more pictures and maybe you guys can help me pinpoint the leak I wipe it off again. It's oil and seems to have a greenish tint. Overnight I realized that it's called the anti dive, not level ride. ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  2. Henry's Hard Grape, Mike's Hard Lemonade, Twisted Tea...all created to make money from the by product of Ethanol manufacture. And how many new Teenage alcoholics are we creating at the same time? ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  3. I've noticed that the gas station where I used to buy premium without ethanol has marked their pumps that all fuel grades have ethanol now. I found the following on Reddit when trying to search for a station that did not put ethanol in their gas. I guess it's what I get for living in a corn producing state but this sounds like it's coming from the source which is not in Nebraska. A while back someone mentioned an additive that they said reduces the effects of ethanol on our carburetors. Does anyone recall what that was or have a suggestion? Do I have to start planning on rebuilding my carburetors every 3 months or six thousand miles or whatever? You all realize that ethanol is the most expensive way to create fuel to just kills gas mileage and engines right? Up yours Al Gore ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  4. I'm sorry. I shouldn't get on here when I'm tired. I have friends they just don't live within 20 miles and it just wouldn't be right to have them have to drive that far to do me a favor. My daughter goes to church in my neighborhood so she can pick me up tomorrow after church and run me up to the car. I'm really starting to wonder if I'm just not supposed to ride this bike because everytime I think I'm ready to go there's two more things that have to be fixed first. New problems springing up not even old problems. I don't like the rust on that break rotor. I mean it's been sitting and not driven but it cleaned up where the pads rub. Does that look normal to anybody? ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  5. Brought the bike home from the mechanic with the carbs no longer dripping and in sync. Also he must have hit my overflow tube somehow pulling the carbs out and my overflow tube at the throat of the radiator was knocked loose again. Put the fairing back on mostly got a rattle I got to find. Noticed a couple drips on the ground under the left front fork. The one place it had never leaked before is now leaking. Seals were all done a couple of years ago. In the picture you'll see that the cooling fins had quite a bit of fork oil on them at the bottom. And the black rubber cover looks like it's leaking but it's dry inside. Looks like the level ride system is making it leak. I thought I was going to put the fairing back on be ready to turn the key and go ride. Oh yeah, and my car is sitting outside the fence at the mechanic shop because my kids are too busy to help me go pick it up and I don't have any friends and I'm unemployed and won't do Uber right now. Tomorrow supposed to be 65 degrees but it doesn't look like I will not be c t f w ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  6. More please! Now you have us all cliff (Or waterfall) hangin'! ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  7. Was sitting here thinking about where to go when I get to start chasing the front wheel soon. I've ridden so many of the roads within a couple hundred miles of Omaha. I was trying to come up with a new place to explore so I tried this, OK Google where is a scenic motorcycle road with more than three curves per mile in Nebraska? Google laughed at me for a full 30 seconds and then said, "Did you mean Nevada?" ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  8. Have you considered backing it down the hill so you can drive up when you want to get out? ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  9. Might be time to say Hi to Jack! ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  10. Got it, Thanks. But what causes the sync to vary so often if new diaphragms and slides? Worn linkage? Were they finicky like that from mile 1? Why these Yamahas as opposed to other engines? Just curious... ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  11. He does show this screw, he shows how it adjust and that he gets them all 4 NSYNC, but it looks like he randomly chose one that was out of sync with the other three. How did he know not to sync the other three to the one that was off? ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  12. Yesterday I dropped off the 83 to get the car Bleak taken care of and syncing done. Which reminds me that Puc' s YouTube video instructing how to sync the carbs doesn't say where to set it. He adjust them so they're all the same but how do you know which one to adjust to? Also, could someone please explain what it is about the 83 that makes it require syncing more than once every couple years like my mechanic insists is all it should ever need? I've tried to say no no no we got to do it but he always thinks I'm crazy. Even though this time it's pretty obvious because of the backfiring and missing. And if it's something that needs to be done so frequently, why hasn't there been a fix for it? I rode a Kawasaki for 5 years and never even gave it a thought. Today I bought a new washbasin at Walmart and made pieces to repair the bucket inside the left fairing that had been cut two or three times by previous owner to put in CB's and radios and crap. The entire bottom and 4in of the back side were cut out and then there was a nice 6 in hole 2 in wide all the way down the length of the front of the box. It ain't pretty but it's watertight and now it's not just a sifter 4 things I would put in there that I wanted to lose somewhere into the fairing or down the road. It's 78 degrees here today. Supposed to be the same tomorrow and then 2 in of snow forecast for Saturday. To the best of my knowledge everything is now ready to turn the key and Chase the front wheel All Summer Long! What a year it's been! I guess now I have to learn how to tour instead of taking test rides to find out what needed to be fixed! Oh, when I pulled up to drop the bike off yesterday there was a blue Venture Royale setting in front and inside I got to meet the owner and only had enough time to exchange pleasantries tell him about this site and trade business cards. I I think it was a 1st Gen, blue, much better condition than mine plastic wise. And he should be joining here soon. He couldn't justify $12 a month, but when I explained that's $12 a year he got excited. I'll be e-mailing him tonight so get ready to welcome a new Omaha guy. Real estate agent. If I've said it once I've said it a hundred times but Thanks to all of you for all of your help and getting to this point! Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
  13. Or a woman with a sense of humor which is almost as rare ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  14. I stopped in there the other day and kept them entertained over lunch hour. There's no charge for getting that fixed like it should be. I let him know about it right away last fall. I've only put about 80 miles on it since I got it back from them then. These guys do a lot of specialty speed build stuff as a base of their business and really know their stuff. What I like is they like working on old bikes too and they like working with old guys that don't know what the f--- they're doing cuz we laugh a lot, usually at my expense. I've always lived by The Motto that I'd rather make a fool of myself than have someone else do it! Dropping almost 4 grand with them last year doesn't hurt our relationship much either ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  15. I carried a fire extinguisher in a back pack! No but I cleaned up the pool between the cylinders first. I'll make sure they sync as part of fixing that leak. ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  16. You shouldn't need to pull the stator cover because this thing is in the open-air behind the stator . I could see most of it when I was replacing the slave. I just couldn't get under to really look at what's around it and once I finally got that cover sealed in the Helicoil put in and everything I didn't want to pull it off again to investigate further. I wondered about having to flip that part for the correct angle as well. ( once I saw the schematic that you provided) It's nothing that I'm in a big hurry about. But you know how when you get an idea that would be cool to do and maybe solve problems for others it just kind of sits there in your brain and nags at you when you're falling asleep, chewing a tough piece of meat, sitting on the toilet reading VR. Org posts. It's weird but I can ride for an hour and probably 3 in 10 times I'm trying to shift the wrong direction. Old habits die hard! ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  17. With all this having been said, my original question was whether THIS linkage could be rotated 90 degrees down so that that push rod rises to the rear connection rather than dropping. Again, I have not been able to see where it is actually mounted or what parts may be around it that would be in the way of such a change. I saw it move, noted plenty of clearance below the current position and imagined that it would still be higher than the exhaust so it would not be in danger of being destroyed during a high center situation. ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  18. Ok. I pick things up relatively quickly. But here's the deal, my rocker shifter mounts directly on the shaft coming out. That external linkage is gone and / so I had never seen it! You can see why the whole thing didn't make any sense without that linkage that reverses the direction of the shift action like in my dear friend Puc's video. I'm crazy! Not stupid! My IQ's just over 145. My attention span is just under 3 seconds... Have you ever seen the animated movie, "Up!"? I'm the dog that's constantly distracted by "Squirrel". And I do appreciate the simplification for my sake because I'm learning to be a Yamaha Venture mechanic for the first time. It's fun, maddening, but it looks like I'm just about to reap some Rewards! My brother says that I'm like this, "I have ADHlook at that pretty birD!" ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  19. I'm so happy to have just returned from 25 miles of CTFW! No leaks! I guess the clutch springs are okay if you get Whiplash when you hit the throttle 6000 RPM. Now if I could only remember what order to put the fairing back together in. I still have that dripping carb on number 2 but the mechanic yesterday said bring it in either have it for me the next day or two after I drop it off. Also it idles at about 1100. And she's backfiring on the right side even when I'm just letting off the gas to shift. I really haven't got to ride her since they got done doing the carbs and stuff last fall. I'm just thrilled to have gotten a ride in 52 degrees today! ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  20. We're talking about you and you're over 2 million miles on 83 Yamahas. That's how many 49 Drums of oil, 666 oil changes at 3000 mile intervals, 333 rear tires ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  21. List ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  22. These all use same diaphragm and slides. Set of 4 Robertson cycle for "getting a price now" ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
  23. "that lever placed pointing upwards will create a 1 down, 4 up shift pattern.. Pointing downwardly, it will produce a completely opposite pattern which can be really fun to ride and have the added benefit of one of the best anti theft devices known to man!!! Be right back..." But it just sticks out front and moves the shaft the same direction up and down like the stock on does. If it were upside it would be below the floorboard and you couldn't touch it with your foot at all. It'd also make a good kick stand upside down. Wierd. Nothing changes mechanically except that the toe lever is 6 inches farther forward and 2" up from the stock shifter! GRRRRR! IF all it has was the heel lever and no toe lever, then it makes perfect sense that it would be reversed. As far as anti-theft, it took me three weeks to find neutral after I mentioned it in a post with a photo and one you smart guys told it was reversed! hahaha. Maybe I'm just too thick-headed to be a mechanic....
  24. Why would putting a rocker lever on it make it go backwards in the first place? Seems really bizarre to me ...in the Eternal scheme of things, this isn't even the blink of an eye.
