  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVAN!! All the best from Mary,Izzy and I
  2. :sign yeah that:sound like it may just be low on fluid or needs bleeding and isnt completely engaging/disengaging
  3. Thanks for the offer Max, i have my 83' in pretty complete condition now,i was able to scavenge many of the little bits and pieces that were missing from my 84' donor. The only thing i would like in the future are the big upper front pieces in good condition without any cracks because mine are kinda busted up but they still look alright. I know most driveline stuff doesn't go between our bikes but let me know if you need any bits and pieces, i may be able to help you out too Actually now that i think of it Max, if you ever get that 89' to the point that you are willing to let go of the whole front end (fork, wheel, rotors) I'd definately be interested so i can do a R6 brake caliper upgrade
  4. Hey Bob, yes i have both, i will keep them safe until i can get them to Carl or we can think of an alternate plan. i don't want anything for them but to find a good home. Let me know if there is any other bits and pieces that you might need for your 84'
  5. VanRiver, your Walt is one good looking specimen. Thumbsup to all the work you have put into her
  6. Here’s another piece i hadn’t seen before getting my 84’ parts bike Similar to the case guards and such. I wont be using them if anyone really loves them Hey Max, do you still have that blonde parts bike? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I just got it home thismorning. The paint is not original but Looks to have been well done many years ago. It has no battery in it but i hooked my charger up to the battery terminals to see if it would light up and everything seems to light up as it should. Even the dash doesn’t have any errors. I think the gear indicator is kinda cool and think it would be neat to make it work on my 83. This bike not able to be registered for the road so i have no intention to make it road worthy but would still like to get it running just so i can run cleaners through the carbs and such and check the charging system because i would like to know that all the spare parts are working as they should Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Thanks for the replies fellas, most of these ideas have crossed my mind, none are really attractive but that’s the way it goes sometimes with these old girls. I have a set of JIS drivers that i use whenever i can. The small bolts in question here metric hex(allen) head. It seems to be holding for now and will be ok for the next bit until winter hits and i can take the bike off the road to attack them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Pulled the 83 out to go for a ride this morning and when i pulled the clutch in there was no pressure there, open the reservior and its empty. So i take the plastic off checking for leaks(there is no drips where it was parked)and its bone dry all the way down. So i figure the slave is leaking and i take off the the engine cover that hides it (crank cover?)to take a look. Sure enough its pretty wet around the bottom of the slave cyl, so i decide to rip it out and get a new one or rebuild it, this is where the problems begin, the head of the bottom screw is stripped from whoever was in there last, i tried hammering a torx bit in there to get some grip but no luck. I stick an Allen key in the top screw to try to get it out and it is so tight that im afraid of breaking the head off the screw. It is such a bad spot for drilling the screws out and am trying not to snap anything but they are in there real good. I am thinking that it must only be leaking a little bit and burning off on the exhaust because i havent checked the fluid since back in the spring and it has taken until now to get empty. So i filled it and bled it and its up and working and ill keep an eye on the fluid level but i would like to fix it over the winter. Any ideas how im going to get those stubborn little bolts out?.
  10. Do we think it is original color? I dont think ive seen one in this shade of blue before
  11. Just made a deal with the local Yamaha dealer who has an 84' standard, its complete, not sure if it runs, ill definately try to get it running if possible but wont be heartbroken if it doesnt. My intentions for the bike is to tear it down and restore all the parts that are rebuildable and use them as spares for my 83' the plastic looks good and many pieces are better that whats currently on my bike. Ill keep all the plastic and make necessary repairs and possibly keep them for a repaint sometime down the road. I know most body, frame, engine components are interchangeable but i think i read at some point that the 83 was one year only for some of the ignition parts? Or the cdi? Could someone shed some light on what i WONT be able to use from the 84 please
  12. All of the areas mentioned have SOME good roads to ride but to me being up north there are so many more options and beautiful scenery. Of course i will go where the group decides to go and I'll enjoy it whether you like it or not
  13. Hey Dave, we met back in the spring at MarCarl's bbq. Glad you are able to get and ride a little bit again, slow and easy gets the job done! Come by in a couple weeks if you're up to it http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?131235-Ontario-Fall-Meet-amp-Greet-Maintenance-Day All the best, Paul
  14. I just noticed one of these came up on Kijiji in Ontario for anyone who might be considering one
  15. Pardon my ignorance but i have heard the term "levelling links" thrown around here a bit lately.....what are they??
  16. Thanks to Zag for the pic of the adapter. I have the tools and resources to make something similar or i was considering something that bolts to the bike somehow and is permanent like some i have seen on second gen bikes. I'll have to put some thought into it and make it a winter project
  17. Does anyone use these on first gen bikes? I searched and only found posts about second gen bikes and the use of spacers or adapters. I realize the bike has a center stand but to use one of these can one just lift streight from the exhaust(doesn't seem like a great idea to me) as it sits lower than the frame? Or some type of spacer or adapter is needed to grab the bike from the frame?
  18. sorry to revive an old thread but this may help someone along the way. I went for a ride yesterday and i know the signals were working for the first bit of the ride but then they stopped working. they would work some times and not other times, but the Hazards were working the whole time so i read a few threads about the topic and checked the fuse, removed and cleaned the signal switch with no success. after further inspection i noticed that the harness for the hazard lights was a little corroded, so i cleaned it up and applied some diletric grease and viola, my signals are back and the harness was easily accessed by removing the front right signal assembly
  19. Reminder bump. Also another post of encouragement to all new members in the area to come out and meet some other Venture riders, they are a group of awesome folks and most of us don't bite:banana:
  20. I'm trying to put a little summing together for the fall http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=497&day=2017-9-30&c=1
  21. We should try again for a meet this weekend
  22. +3 on the Progressive springs. I recently put them in my83 and it is the single biggest improvement I have done to the bike. On another note I had a broken line on my fronts and could not find anywhere that could make me something to work with the system. I ended up finding one at a local bike recyclers yard as they are not available new from the dealer any longer (for a mk1) they may be for a mk2 I'm not sure of that. Good luck
  23. Wish I could make it but I'm working this weekend. If by any chance it falls flat I'd definitely be in next weekend
  24. This is from the 1st gen tech library http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?493-CLASS-E4-Error-Repaired not too difficult if you're not shy with a soldering iron. If you think it beyond your capabilities then just take it out and take it to an electronic repair person and they should handle it for not too many dollars
