  1. I still check in on this site a couple times a week, still riding my 83’Blonde when i get a chance. Weather is starting to turn cooler around these parts, probably only a month or so before hibernation
  2. Home safe and sound about an hour ago..awesome riding and scenery was had by all who attended. Total mileage over about 1000kms over 2 days of superb riding weather. Special thanks to Evan for sharing his very special cottage and property with us( even our bikes were sheltered for the night). Also a very special thanks to our route planner who i know put alot of time and effort into connecting all the best roads available to get us where we wanted to be. It was nice to even see a couple others who joined for part of the ride to keep us company for a while
  3. it was nice to meet you Andrew(albeit briefly)hopefully you can make it out to the meet and greet bbq in the spring and we can get better acquainted
  4. Sounds good Evan, i will be at the end of my road just after 8am waiting for our guide to come by
  5. I have it from a reliable source that I may snore, although I still have a hard time believing it because I have never heard said snoring for myself. As far as hugging goes, get me a couple "beverages"and we can talk about it
  6. HECK YA, I’m down for this, put me down for a bed in the trailer or cabin:eek:
  7. I think there was a black pouch in that box of stuff you haded over to me, you are welcome to get it back if you like. I think its one of the smaller ones with a snap, not a zipper( wherever thats supposed to go) that seat looks awesome by the way, glad you were able to save it!
  8. I once had a seat that dirty, I couldn’t get it clean, so i gave it away
  9. You could start contacting XV100SE(Don), Dogman(Dave), herb1 (Rob), stickhandle2(Mike) or Sleepy2(Phil) they were the second gen bikes that would have been there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Izzy and I will be making it a group of 4 bikes. We will be coming weather permitting as I don’t want to ride with Izzy in the rain... if we cancel i will text/call Carl the night before departure Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Officially booked at the Red Roof, LOOKING FORWARD to meeting some other members
  12. Carl, I’d be fine with the red roof inn also if you are. I’ll call and book tomorrow if you’re down with that. I’ll be getting a room for Izzy and I
  13. Last minute additions here if we may....myself and the girls will be attending. Looking forward to seeing everyone (I tried to rsvp in the calendar but it was closed)
  14. Well this year's meet has come to an end. We were blessed with a beautiful warm(ok really warm) day, lots of good people, good food and good conversation. Got to see a couple folks we hadn't seen in a while and meet a member we had never met before(poor guy,now he's part of the family this gathering was a great success in my books!! Hope everyone got home safe, hope to see you all again sooner than later
  15. HarryHammer, not sure if your filter is in the same place as my 83 but mine is on the left side of the bike behind the frame approximately where the passengers foot rest is, most easily seen from the rear of the bike looking up and forward, it's hard to see from the outside of the bike even with the side cover off because the fuel pump sits right in front of it
  16. SciFiman, really looking forward to meeting you, Mary and I are excited to see everyone again at our place for this meet. We feel honoured that some are even taking time from their vacations to attend.
  17. Only 2 weeks until this event.. check it out... https://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=509&day=2018-9-15&c=1
  18. Thats what I figured..mine is like this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. That's a crappy deal Ben, I am off from wed through the weekend if you need a hand later in the week. Let me know if you need any tools, I can bring them along. What' the radio controller look like that broke? I have one but it is just a up/down(scan?) Buttons and a mute button. I'm thinking yours is probably more advanced than mine being a mk2 but if it' what you need you can have it, I took all the radio stuff out of my bike over the winter
  20. Congratulations Carl and Marca!
  21. Like rbig1 said or you just need to push the buttons harder. Mine does work but some times(alot of the time ) I need to push the buttons harder and sometimes several times before it does what I want it to do, she' a pretty old girl and my 83' isn't what I would call "low milage" but like was said, make sure the wires going into the harness in the back of the controller all seem tight and a resolder like others mentioned wouldn't be a bad move either. It's easy to do if you have a small soldering iron. Here is a link from the first gen tech section http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?493-CLASS-E4-Error-Repair
  22. ....and if you get tired of the view in your garage you can come over for a coffee and look at mine for a while
  23. So i have been worrying about this for a while, considering what i would do if i broke one of those allen bolts in there. So last week after there was some salt put on the roads i figured i was done riding for the season and decided to attack thosetwo little bolts and deal with the consequences whatever they may be. I ran the bike and let it idle till the fan was kicking on and off then shut er off and whipped the middle gear cover off real quick while there was still heat in the motor. I put the long end of a hex key in the top bolt of the slave, put a small deep socket and an extension on the short end of the hex key for some leverage and she was tight but it cracked loose....woohoo now for the lower bolt with the stripped hex head in it, i briefly tried with the hex key and tried hammering a torx bit in there but they just spun in there. My next move was to find a socket that would NOT quite fit over the head of the hex bolt and make it fit by hammering it on there, a 3/8" socket will tightly hammer on and hold the outside of the hex bolt, put a extension in it and a ratchet and it came loose!! one small victory, time to order a new slave and gasket for the middle gear cover:group cheers:
  24. So do we all meet at the bike show then go to dinner?
  25. I vote for you to stick with it too. I spent all last winter picking away at mine with a space heater next to me. My goal last winter was to get my 83' in a safe reliable road worthy state, with less emphasis on the aesthetics. After spending the whole summer riding it, i can say it is a good riding/running motorcycle that hasn't really given me any hassle. I too have more $ into the bike than i could sell it for, but sometimes one needs to look at what its worth in not in $$. I am mechanically inclined but my experience with older motorcycles is very limited and i am learning all the time. Dont be afraid to dig into the old beast, most rebuild kits for the clutch and brake parts are fairly inexpensive and the way i look at it is if you pay attention while taking something apart you can probably put it back together and if you can't somebody here will be able to guide you. Clutch cylinder- fairly easy to get to...just buy a new one, they dont cost alot more than a rebuild kit and from what I've read the rebuild kits are hit and miss Brakes- new lines are fairly simple, i delinked mine, have 2 lines coming from the right hand master cylinder, one line going to each front caliper which i rebuilt myself on my workbench with Yamaha parts in an afternoon Fuel gauge- probably one of two things here(or both)1. the sending unit on the top of the tank needs romoved and inspected, it can be tested with a multimeter as per the instructions found in the service manual on this site here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?3384-First-Gen-Service-Manuals If it checks out ok with a meter put it back in the bike, if it doesnt, you may need to follow the following procedure... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?10519-Fuel-Sending-Unit-Adjustment. Once all the above is established with the sending unit and it is back in the bike try it out, if its still no go... 2. The back of the dash needs to be re-soldered, again something that isnt that hard, i did mine but if you arent comfortable with it someone at an electronics repair place should be able to do it pretty quick and cheap http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?33328-Information-Display-Repair I can't comment on the exhaust and collector because i haven't had to go down that road yet but im sure someone here should be able to help, check the local classifieds for somone parting out a bike like yours Don't get discouraged, focus on each job one at a time and you will get there
