I just had to set my bike down in a parking lot
Flyinfool replied to CMCOFFEY's topic in Watering Hole
Puc I may be able to plug the Snowper Charger into the improved heart to siphon of some of the excess capacity. Lord knows there are enough holes in me now for plugging stuff into....... Besides, I had a Harley once, that was enough for this lifetime. You did notice that I am an equal opportunity I threw the same jab at a wing. -
Is there a way to get some oil to the fan bearing?
-
I think all stands on all bikes use an "over center" mechanism to lock them down. This means that it WILL rise the left side of the bike higher than when resting on the stand. This is why it is so violent when the stand kits in a turn. So on a wing you can not have the motor running to warm up on the side stand while you gear up?

Wow, I guess I just assumed that such a simple, cheap, effective thing would be on at least all high end bikes.

Anyone have the lifter tool for valve adjustments?
Flyinfool replied to Great White's topic in Watering Hole
That is not the development thread. But I did link to the correct one in the first post. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?55831-Help-valve-shim-tool -

Flyinfool replied to Great White's topic in Watering Hole
I have been making the shim tools for a while now. While I am sure you can make one for yourself, I did in my basement, it is not that easy. I found a member that had an original tool that would loan it to me for the purpose of copying it. I made several versions before I came up with one that worked and was not to hard to make. I am guessing Yamaha has better machine capability than my basement. I did learn that just any steel will not work. I had to use 1040 and carbide tools to cut it to make a tool that held up. When I tried cheap steel the buckets just ripped the ramps off the tool after 1 or 2 valves. I sell them to members for about half of what you found them for. There was a whole thread about it during the development. -
Do the big Harleys have a safety switch on the side stand? A few weks ago, I was sitting at a red light, oncoming traffic had a green left turn arrow. I saw a bike coming toward me in the left turn lane and noticed something sticking out the left side. Just about the time I realized it was the side stand he leaned into his left turn. You guessed it, he high sided hard. Fortunately he was only going about 15 MPH and did a good job of tuck and roll and had no injuries other than some minor road rash. After a couple of tumbles he was on his feet before the bike stopped sliding, The bike had some pretty serious damage, when it slid into the curb. Bent fork, handlebar, everything on right side had rash and or was bent. He got POed at me when I said I saw his side stand down before the turn. He was blaming gravel, but intersection looked clean to me. But I was just wondering if there is supposed to be a side stand switch like we have to prevent that from happening.

I have seen 2 Harley's go down at gas pumps since I got my Venture, both cases they forgot the side stand and got off. -
Fortunately my Father is still around. I am really hoping to be able to get out of the house to be able see him today.

FINALLY, a nice quiet uneventful night. Last night was the first night that I slept all night with no wake ups for anything. Even my bladder cooperated. Dang did that feel good. Hopping for an equally uneventful day today, with some quality nap time. But It still did not take more than two steps to remember that I still feel like I got run over by a bus. But at least now it feels like it was a short bus. More drugs.........

New Fuse Box Help
Flyinfool replied to Patmac6075's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No you do not want to just buss one side of the fuse block there are some of the fuses that are bussed together to the switched power head, ignition, signal, fan (key in on), but there are separate power feeds for the parking lights (Key in park or on) backup (hot to battery), Audio (key in on or accy), Acc (key in on or accy)hazard (hot to battery), I wired my new fuse block just like the original so the fuses are the same values and locations as stock. The terminal blocks that I added are in addition to the stock wiring and only have non stock things connected to them. If you really wanted to you could connect the one whole side of the fuse block to switched power, but you will lose the ability to retain radio stations, lose the ability to turn on just parking lights, lose the ability to have hazard lights with the key off, I am not sure what the ramifications of using class while moving would be. I would/did wire it just like it was. Yes everything but acc is hot with the key in on, But when the key is in other positions (acc, park off) some stay hot and others turn off depending on key position. -
So are you saying @cowpuc cut off his beard and that is why his but needs covering..........
-
You have no idea how much I would love to repeat the episode from post #1 right now.
-
So you are saying that those old slow obsolete discontinued 2nd gens are not worth fixing.

And I have heard that your butt needs a lot of covering..........

upgrading bulbs
Flyinfool replied to oconeedan's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If simple is what you want I got my replacement LEDs from Super Bright LED. They are not the cheapest by far, but they are way brighter than the 1157 incandescent. The ones I got are the 45 LED towers. These come in both 1157 and 1156 types. Remember when adding LEDs to match the LED color to the lens color. I have played with some of the less expensive LEDs available the results are very disappointing. There is a huge difference in LED quality between different places. -
Sounds great. But my haircut did not work out near as well.

Well I managed to wake up again today. Was an interesting night. One of the entry holes to the femoral artery opened up last night. Called the hospital to see what to do. They just said to lay still on my back and hold constant pressure on it. So Erika and I took turns holding me together last night for a couple hours. We were both exhausted once we got the bleeder stopped. She woke up quite a few times during the night to make sure I was not bleeding out. The leak seems to be all plugged up again now and everything back on track. Boy is this ugly, a lot of the bleed was internal, lots of colors down there now. Starting to wish I had gotten some of the good drugs to bring home. I feel like I got run over by a bus. Dan All 3 cars they tried to pawn off on us were worse than our beater. First they brought up a silver Honda Pilot with the side caved in. told them this ain't a Chevy. then they brought up a silver Chevy Cruise. Had to splain we had a silver Chevy Malibu. third time they finally got the right car. But I was not physically ready for the 20 minutes of standing in the sun with the heat and humidity. Hmmmmm..... Now that I am typing this I am wondering if this contributed to my bleeder........

Well I am finally home. I guess I was typing a little incoherently on that stolen phone from ICU......... I hope I did not say anything bad to anyone. The procedure took a lot longer than expected,n Doc said I was really bad. they went in through both groins, both arms and the jugular and down my throat. Have a nasty cut in my mouth. They had to use both Cryogenics and RF energy to kill all of the stuff they wanted to get to. I sure hope there is enough left. I feel like I got run over by a bus. Now the heart has to heal for 6-8 weeks to find out if this actually worked. On the plus side, I was able to get served ICE CREAM at 2:00 am when they got me out of bed for my required walk. It did not help that the valet parking managed to loose our car. and I had to stand out in the 85 degree heat with 75 deg dewpoint while they searched for it. they brought 3 different cars up before they got it right.

Still her. ya ain't rid o me yet. On stolen Phone from icu more latr seeking this in fromicu on stolen Good drugs......

Thank you all for your prayers and wishes, I leave the house in about 20 minutes. Almost got an early start, Nearly passed out in the shower, after resting and sucking wind for 15 minutes checked an my pulse was down to 154. ecg looked real ugly. Almost called 911 for an early start. Now after an hour of rest pulse is down to 104 ecg still looks real ugly. My normal pulse is 44. I guess those drugs I been taking that I stopped 2 days ago were actually doing something. No nitrous but I am getting the super charger reconnected.

re-wire emergency flashers to battery
Flyinfool replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
We are only guessing at what is happening inside of the relays, since we have no info, that is why I recommended a test to be safe. Don I think you might have been correct before you started second guessing yourself. If your new theory was correct then the hazards would be flashing any time the key was on. The hazards appear to be wired hot and the ground is switched to turn them on or off. If there is some small power draw from the hazard when they are not being used this would be no problem with the bike running, it would be a problem with the bike parked, hence the test to be sure. -
This is all great info. Unfortunately I learned most of this the hard way many years ago. I have had heat stroke and heat exhaustion many times, I now get heat issues very easily, BUT I am also now very well attuned to the earliest symptoms and now know and understand what MUST be done immediately. Heat is nothing to mess with. I understand all to well the mentality of us northerners that to control heat you just keep taking more clothes off until you get arrested. The only thing that I learned different from the above info is the critical temperatures. 99°F is mentioned. Yes body core temp is 98.6°F BUT your skin temperature is typically around 86°F. Skin temperature does vary considerably depending on situation, any time the air temperature is above the skin temperature is where you start to gain heat from the air. But I know where it is.......... I'll be off work the rest of this week and probably totally bored........... Now what can I do with that time........... Did I ever mention that I do not like hot weather.........

re-wire emergency flashers to battery
Flyinfool replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
What Don posted looks like it should work, again I'm just basing it on looking at the wiring diagram. I am not sure what they are doing with the hazard relay and 2 flasher relays. It would be nice if there was a depiction of the internal circuit of those 3 relays. When you disconnect the Br wire from the hazard relay, do a check with a ohm meter from the Br wire that is still connected to the flasher relay and to ground. You should have infinite ohms. If you have a ohm reading that means there is something inside of the hazard relay that will always be drawing power and will run down your battery while parked. When you run this new power wire be sure to run it through a fuse.
