HELP! Voltage issue
Flyinfool replied to RoyalRider05's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you did all of the test and still have low voltage it is most likely a bad RR. Here is another test Very similar to the one you used but slightly different. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?81297-Testing-for-a-Battery-not-Charging -
You have enough miles on to have the plugs show an indication of mixture. It is actually better to be reading clean new plugs with low miles on them. Hot temps reduce available horse power because the air is less dense, this usually mans that you will pull the throttle open a little farther to get the same acceleration that you are used to, and less dense air means that the engine will run a little richer.

Glad to hear she is OK. I also was really worried when I read the title. I think a racing crash is a lot less dangerous that a road crash. (I must admit I have tried neither and have no plans to test my theory) At least the track makes an effort to be sure there are no trees rocks or other hard things to run into while doing a butt slide, not to mention having all of the right gear on. While it would be cool to wear the scarred helmet, helmets are designed for a single impact, the energy absorbing layer may already be crushed and will not be able to protect in the next crash. The scratches will create a weak spot in the outer shell that also might not be enough left to protect in the next crash. Since she is racing, there will be a next crash. Some of the helmet makers you can send in a helmet and they will inspect it to see if it is still safe to use. But I would keep the damaged helmet to hang on the garage wall as a memento.

The TCI diodes that fail are not failing electrically, it is a mechanical failure due to corrosion from getting wet. The ones in the CMU are well conformal coated to keep them dry and I have never seen or heard of a CMU with signs that water had gotten in it to start a problem. There is also no track record of the diodes in the CMU failing for any reason. I would/did leave them alone.

I wanna see that.....

That is 33 MPG, while not great mileage it is not that terrible or unheard of either. I have gotten down to 80 miles on 4.5 gallons which is about 18 MPG. My full size 4X4 pickup does better than that. That was 100% due to riding 80 MPH into a 40MPH headwind pulling a trailer with temps in the 90s. Next tank I slowed down, made the turn to cross wind and was back to normal 38 MPG. There was nothing wrong with the bike, just the way I was riding it. Point is it could be the way you were riding and/or weather conditions contributing to the low mileage. As far as the smell, what do your plugs look like? Do they say you are running way rich?

Poison Ivy is bad stuff. I found out the hard way that I am allergic to it. So I get an allergy rash and hives on top of the poison ivy rash. Then I found out I was allergic to the meds that they gave me........ It was not fun. I learned my lesson and never got into it again. I can spot poison ivy from a long ways off.

But then you will need to find 3 track trails........

Face book is what you get if you are walking down the sidewalk while reading a book and come to an uneven sidewalk crack......

When you hit Wisconsin, if you get close enough give me a shout, we'll see if we can get you wrapped around some of the good Ice cream from the dairy state.

I went to the heart doc today for my first checkup since the ablation. He said I ain't dead yet. He said that it looks petty good and has started to reduce the meds. It will be a very long procedure to get off of all of them, as in potential years. Of course the most expensive one will be the very last one to get off of, go figure. So for the next year it will be a lot of hurry up and wait. I am not off of any of them yet, but I will see if the reduced dosage will let me back on the bike. He did say that I can and should now start to increase my physical activities. That will help cuz I am sick of being a couch potato.

MKII Trailer Hitch Mount ?
Flyinfool replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yup, it sure is bent. Can you tell where exactly the bend is? It looks like it is bent in the tubing bend that is by the side bracket. But it is hard to tell in the pics. -
The tamper resistant torx bit is available at Harbor Freight. When You put it back together do not reinstall the tamper resistant screw, You can get a new set of screws at most any hardware store and not have to deal with tamper resistant again. If the slides move easily but do not move with engine running, then the first place to look is at the diaphragms. Hopefully they just were not on all the way and slipped out of the groove. The slides should not move slowly in and out with the throttle, they should be dancing in there. I would pull and check all 4 diaphragms. I never tried, but is it possible to have the diaphragms installed inside out?

MKII Trailer Hitch Mount ?
Flyinfool replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It is all steel, My guess is it bent right at the weld, that would be the weak spot and location of the stress riser. The tubing is .090 inch wall, that tab is .250 inch thick plate. If it is bent in the weld, welds crack easy from bending. But we can guess all we want, once we see the bend It will be easier to determine if it is safe to attempt repair. -
That was before I knew better. AND that is why I said it had BIG issues towing........Once in a while I did manage to stay in my lane for a few yards........

MKII Trailer Hitch Mount ?
Flyinfool replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The 2 sides are mirror image, Yes they should be symmetrical. I do not think you would even want to try to straighten it out. Watch ebay, there are some smart asses that try to sell hitches piecemeal. Great for you bad for them. Had one got really POed at me cuz I just bought the one piece I needed and left him with an incomplete hitch he could not sell. He listed all the parts separate so that he would get more money with his expensive shipping.
