No. The vintage weekend is in October.

I live maybe 7 or 8 miles from Barber's and have never visited the museum. Most that do visit, love it. If you decide to make the trip, let me know, and if nothing else, will give you some better riding routes to get there while avoiding Bham.

Fuel Sender Replaced
YamahaLarry replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mine varies a little as to what mileage it drops first notch after a fill up. If I am lazy or in a rush and fill with it on the kickstand, usually around 35 to 40 miles it will drop first notch and then at around 165 or so I will get the low fuel warning light. If I sit on the bike and fill it standing straight up, the first notch is at around 55 miles or so and the low fuel light will come on around 180 or so miles. Most of my driving is back and forth to work. Several traffic lights with a 10 mile or so no light cruise at 45 to 60 mph. -
So sad. Hear news of this way too often. Facebook post by his dad: "Rest in peace, Billy Dedrick I will always love you. 6/8/1985 to 8/2/2014. My oldest of five, Billy succumbed to his injuries following a motorcycle accident. Until we meet again, you will be in my thoughts and prayers every day."

Sounds like a good deal. Not ready to tackle adjusting my valves yet, but will try to remember this when I do. Bike has 28k on it, and I guess I should start thinking about when I will check the valves. But, running good at the present, and my motto, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

misbehaving odometer
YamahaLarry replied to Semi-retired's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My '99 RSV goes to the that counter after low fuel warning often. I push the limits. But it does not clear out my #1 trip odometer. They are not the same counter. Just one push of the reset or the select button will put you back to your #1 trip counter. Or, at least that is how it works on mine. -
You could have driven SE for hour and a half and had lunch with me.

Something I must share concerning a Princess Ride I managed...
YamahaLarry replied to YamahaLarry's topic in Watering Hole
Yes she does, purple and pink. I had the flags made in those colors as well and told all bikers that the colors for the day are purple and pink. I also hired a "balloon guy" to tie balloons for kids at the church for free (we had an outdoor event there as well). I had him tie her a special balloon in advance and gave it to her shortly after getting off my bike. Her favorite princess is Rapunzel. Going to try to insert the image in this post. Rookie here so I may not get it right the first attempt. In case you can't quite make out the balloon from this angle, it is Rapunzel on a motorcycle. http://teamthomasj.com/images/emma/emmasmotorcycleballoon.jpg -
First, let me say that I belong to an organization that is much larger than myself. It was created almost 2 years ago to support a 6 year old boy and his family from Ashville, AL His name was Thomas J. Sullivan, aka Superman, and he was a victim of childhood cancer. Thomas gained his heavenly wings on May 26th of last year and we have continued in his name to assist other children and their families, both financially and with spiritual and morale support. Over the past couple of years, I have come to know some very heroic children, some with very sad endings. I get close to some, but I feel that if you can't get close to the families, you can't provide the right assistance. I became very close to a little girl from Oxford, AL last year, and she is a true princess and has absolutely stolen my heart. My wife and I visit the family very often, and have become part of their extended family. This little girl is Emma Mitchell and she has become everyone's princess. Since June of 2012, she has had 3 brain tumor removal surgeries, 3 stem cell transplants, and a portion of her skull removed due to infection in the bone. Through it all, she has been brave and as sweet as a little (currently) 5 year old girl can be. We have had many days of smiles and many days of tears. Emma was proclaimed for the first time to be cancer free a few months back. But sadly, the cancer has come back and a new tumor of a different type cancer in the front part of her brain. Surgery is out of the question now. She has received a lifetime of radiation and the chemo is having no effect. The doctors have told the family they have a few weeks to a few months with Emma. So sad and so heart breaking, but we are all praying for a miracle. The organization of which I belong, Team Thomas J, just recently did a Princess Ride for Emma per my request. I, along with the family's church, put a ride together. The unfortunate part was a threat of bad weather that kept many riders from coming out. Their loss. I just wanted to share the video of the bikes coming into the church. Emma was not able to mingle with people due to her immune system was feared to be a little low and the family didn't want to risk her catching some foreign bacteria. But due to my closeness to the family, I was able to spend time with them after the ride. The linked videos are of the bikes circling to the back of the church where Emma was able to come out and wave at everyone as they rode by. I placed myself at the rear of the ride coming into the church so I could stop and say a few words to her, but also, we have this special song between me and her mom that developed during Emma's Make-A-Wish trip to Disney last year. I hope you enjoy. Just wanted to share. This is what we bikers are all about. The longer video is of all the bikes coming in and the other is a closer one of me getting my princess hug and princess kiss. Turn up your speakers and listen to the music my RSV was playing coming into see Emma. I hope I got the links right.

I can only imagine the heat generated by this thing. Very nice though.

September 19 should be Batman Day. That is Adam West's birthday. And, is also mine and my only grandson's birthday. He is 2 years old and a Batman fanatic.

Practically every day we are all just a millisecond away from similar circumstances. The older I get, the more I have to force myself to be more familiar with my surroundings. I just can't bounce back up like I once could. Hate reading stuff like this but so glad you are okay.

Sunday, I finally got around to installing the chrome radiator cover that my kids got me for Father's Day. After removing the fairings and existing cover, I could tell that if I took out those 2 small bolts close to bottom on both sides of the radiator, it would take me approx 10 hours to get them back in there. Well, maybe not 10, but a pain regardless. So, after some thinking, I decided to slot the holes on the cover. I slotted the top hole to the left side of the bike so it would not be visible while on kick stand and slotted the 2 small holes at the bottom straight back. Installation was a breeze and it looks great. I soon plan to cut out some fine lightweight steel mesh, paint it flat black and contact cement it to the back of the cover for a little added protection to the radiator.

Wow. What an oversight. But yes, I am very interested. Kinda busy this week. Have a big ride coming up this weekend for a child with terminal cancer and working on getting all that put together. Can I hook back up with you next week?

The PO lowered by '99 RSV and would love to undo what he did. Would be willing to swap parts with anyone such as yourself, but I ride every day and would have to be a quick swap. Also willing to just purchase original stock parts from anyone that has lowered their RSV.

If they are small, furry and squeak, they are rats to me.

More like a scream.

I have owned my '99 RSV for just over 2 months now, put maybe 3k miles on it. This weekend I finally got around to doing some checking on things that I had not had time to do and one was to check the air filters to see if they needed cleaning or replacing. Got into the left side first and when I cracked the case open I saw a wad of bits of paper and rat pellets. No rat though. The PO let it set for several months without being started/driven, so it seems that a small rat must have found it's way into the filter area and tried to chew his way further. With no filter on hand, and I ride every day, I cleaned it all real well and patched the area with duct tape so no unfiltered air can get into the carbs. Really hoping no damage has been done. I don't think there has. The hole was on the back end of the filter and was maybe 1/2 x 1 inch at it's broadest points. The right side looked fine and looked almost new. Still ordering 2 filters just so I can sleep better. Anyone else ever have a rat in your air filter? Should have taken a pic, but didn't.

My new to me '99 RSV is rather stiff on the front brakes. I have locked them up once when a lady, oops, woman, tried to squeeze me in the right lane. But, I have to squeeze front brakes rather hard. They are not spongy and the pads look good. Thinking maybe PO used some off the wall brand of pads.

China radiator cover
YamahaLarry replied to bill4you502's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When you get it figured out, let me know what it took. My kids gave me the China version for Father's Day and I will be installing it soon. I looked at the parts manual and it appears that it is a matter of removing the lower 2 bolts holding the radiator and perhaps pushing the grommets thru the holes in the cover and reassembling. I am sure it is more difficult than I make it sound.
