  1. A little up date on my condition. I did continue to take 20mg of rosuvastatin. The Dr prescribed 40mg. The vitamin K2 still seems to be working as I can be much more active without feeling angina. However, I just had my annual blood test performed. My cholesterol is 108. Supposedly the normal range starts at 120. So, I think 10mg daily may be best. Another interesting thing on my blood test is that my red blood cell count is too low along with hemoglobin. I checked last years results and it was at the low end of the scale. Never been low before. A little research revealed that the covid shots will reduce the red blood cell count. I took both of the first Pfizer shots a month or more before last years lab test and I had the booster last November. A little more research revealed that Vitamin B12 increases red blood cells so I started taking that today. No more booster shots for me. If you don't know a low red blood cell count will sap your energy and an old fart like me needs all the energy I can get! Ha!
  2. Lapping the valves may be all that is needed if the valves are a problem. I would put a lot of seafoam or gumout in the gas and see what that does.
  3. As I remember, Cowpuc had 5 of these bikes that he wore out at 180k miles to over 200k miles, and as I remember, only one of them had second gear. The 6th one that he bought from another member had the second gear repair. He really proved how durable these bikes are.
  4. Sounds like that bike is worth repairing, cosmetically in good condition, and with only 5k miles on it. If you can do the work yourself, I'd say get it running well and enjoy! The first thing I would do is a compression test on the engine just to make sure it's okay. The second gear issue shouldn't show up until about 30k miles or more. There is a ton of information on this site to read. One thing cowpuc always recommended on bikes that have been sitting is to put some oil on the valve train/cams before starting. And cowpuc who is no longer a member is famous for buying old cheap 83 and 84 Ventures and putting a couple hundred thousand miles on them.
  5. My 07 RSV choke will stay where I put it. I suspect the carbs are a little dirty and I also recommend seafoam or a fuel injector cleaner added to the gasoline. I use Gumout for high mileage engines with PEA mostly but also like seafoam. It keeps the carbs clean on my motorcycles and yard tools.
  6. Awesome! They are great to ride on short trips!
  7. Welcome! Lots of good information on the site and among the members.
  8. If Yamaha had refined the Gen II bikes, I think it would have sold much better in its later years. Eliminating that annoying clutch basket whine, adding fuel injection and a modern stereo would have been a great start. But nope, they wouldn't do any updates. I don't think the Goldwings have an annoying gear whine.
  9. Used car prices are up. Don't know if that applies to bikes.
  10. If you google that bike name with parts or manual included, sites come up. Seems there is even a forum "chinarider".
  11. I never heard of that brand and did a little searching. Supposedly, it is chinese designed and assembled in Texas with chinese parts. So, you should be able to get some info and parts from Texas.
  12. ReinyRooster, I may be looking at a hip replacement. If you don't mind, could you tell me about your experience with that surgery? Was it performed from the rear, direct approach, or from the anterior? How was the recuperation period? How long? Anything helpful hints you could pass on? Thanks!
  13. Well, if you travel to our southern border you could come right in and settle down in a warmer state! LOL!
  14. Thanks for the update! We're all hoping for the best!
  15. Living in coastal NC I'm spoiled I know but today it's 32 degrees and rainy that may turn into freezing rain according to the weather folks. I'm ready for spring for sure. I don't know how I could stand all those winters I worked in Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. I should have bought a house in Florida when I was working there..... Shoulda, coulda, and $5 might buy a cup of hot coffee.🤪
  16. The Yamaha Royal Star Venture's curb weight is 869 lbs. But, I don't consider it to be top heavy. Some do. It's super comfy and a great road trip bike. If you ride mostly around town, you may want something lighter. Me personally I don't like V-twins and all 3 of my bikes are fours. I don't like vibration and I like the power from a high revving four. My 2 cents....
  17. I once worked with a free spirit type guy who said he had a chevy cargo van that he used as a camper. He said he could spend the night most anywhere and no one would know he was sleeping in it. He said he spent a night one time parked on the street in San Francisco. Wonder what happened to that guy. He was a character and very smart.
  18. In the US, I think you are required by law to stop and assist the people in the accident.
  19. That was a close call! Glad it turned out okay! I was on I95 traveling at 70 plus in my Dodge Magnum behind a SUV. There was a large piece of a truck tire in the road that the SUV ran over and tossed it back to me. It cracked the rubber nose or bumper cover of my car and went under my car. Ended up costing me over $600 to get a new bumper cover including painting. Don't those big trucks still use recaps? They do provide some extra danger to vehicles and especially to motorcycle riders. It would be great if the railroads could take some of the business away from the trucks and get them off the highways.
  20. This question reminded me of a photo I took at Sturgis. I'm not sure what this guy was carrying with him?!!
  21. We will all be pulling for you, Don! As far as the site getting slow, characters like the much loved Cowpuc, Yammer Dan, Flying Fool, and Bongo kept us entertained for sure. And it is winter time when many folks have put their bikes in the garage and are doing other stuff.
  22. Here's hoping that 2022 is a better year for both of you.
  23. The 86 and up have much better front brakes with 4 pistons per caliper. The R1 brakes don't fit quite the same.
  24. If the brakes aren't delinked, it's hard to imagine both front brakes locking up and not the rear. Very DUMB question alert! Could the reservoirs have been completely full? If so pressure from heat could build up. The master cylinders have a little hole that allows the fluid pressure to be relieved back to the master cylinder when the brakes are released. Sometimes those holes get plugged. It may be that the calipers just need to be rebuilt.
