  1. I can't remove the tailgate/ramp on my trailer due to the way the hinges are attached so I can't have the rear wheel that close to the rear. I don't want to load it diagonally like I did with my 89 because the front of the trailer only has the tongue extending from the body and the weight of the 89 twisted the trailer bed. My trailer is rated for 1600 lbs but it is a light duty trailer bought from Lowes. I may have to turn the front wheel and remove the trunk.
  2. Well, according to the specs on BikeZ, it is 104.5" long, 8" longer than my trailer. So, a uhaul will have to be rented. When I hauled my 89 Venture home, it was within 1" of the tailgate and I ended up loaded it diagonally to make sure the tailgate/ramp didn't rub against the trunk. I wonder if I could remove the trunk and turn the front wheel to make it fit.
  3. Aha! You found it! That's it!
  4. I think the manual states that the caps are 10k ohms. My OEs checked 9k ohms. The 5k ohms caps should give a fatter spark and cowpuc says he never had any issues running the 5k ohm caps. The NGK catalog states that they don't have any for our bikes but had some that would probably work. I didn't try to find those.
  5. I'm sorry he killed himself but it sounds like he should be on the darwin award list.
  6. If you go to NGK.com, you will find an extensive catalog with caps listed for our Ventures. The NGK caps are 5k ohms. I bought a set a while back but have not installed them yet. Okay, I just looked for a XVZ13 and they don't have any. But, I did buy mine from them for a 89 Venture.
  7. #1 I'm surprised that he was caught. But, he did voluntarily pull over when he saw the lights. #2 I think it is insane for a LEO to chase a speeder at 130 mph unless the road is empty and it didn't appear so from the article. Chasing a murderer is one thing, a speeder is something else. I just read about a local guy who was clocked speeding and ran from a LEO. The young LEO overdrove his car, crashed and killed himself, and now the guy who ran is charged with murder? When I was working in southern FL, it was common for the local kids to race from one point to another on their sport bikes on the highways. Dangerous stuff. I had a flock of them pass me several times on the turnpike doing well in excess of a hundred mph, some with their girl friends on the back. I was thinking, I hope they live to have grandchildren. A local FL LEO chased a sport bike with his Harley. He crashed and hurt himself badly. The pd shouldn't allow LEO's to chase while riding a Harley IMHO. They just are not designed for that purpose.
  8. FF, Thanks for reminding me. Talking to the guy, he seems to be for real, but you never know. I will be armed. I wish I had someone going with me. I think I'll tell him that I need to go to the bank to get the cash if I decide to buy it.
  9. I'm not sure I will like a Gen 2. I've never ridden one. But this one is so cheap, I can try it out and sell it if I don't like it. I plan to reduce my bikes to only one whichever one I like the best.
  10. I saw a 2007 Yamaha Venture with 22k miles on craigslist with such a low price, I may have to buy it. Going to look at it Friday with my trailer in tow if it's still for sale.
  11. I think it's federal law that if you sell firearm to a felon, you just committed a felony. If you don't know who you are selling or trading or giving it to, it's best to go through a dealer who can make the call to check the guy's record.
  12. Ain't it great having your own business?
  13. Very Creative!
  14. I suggest you compare the load rating of that 130 tire to a 140 and the same size comes with different load ratings.
  15. The spark plug wires love to corrode at the spark plug cap joint. Maybe unscrew the caps and cut a half inch off the plug wires and screw them back into the caps.
  16. Like always, it's about making money. Mobil could advertise the cheaper Group III as synthetic so that is what they did.
  17. In auto oils, "Full Synthetic" in almost all cases means Group III oil. I don't know of a PAO Group IV oil. Mobil 1, Amsoil, all the oils are mostly Group III with maybe some PAO or Ester added. Mobil 1 was a Group IV PAO oil until the court decided it was okay for Castrol to market a Group III oil as "synthetic". That caused Mobil and maybe everybody else to switch to Group III because it was cheaper to produce. I don't know what is in motorcycle oils because all the oil companies consider their formulations proprietary. Mobil used to brag about their oil being a PAO but not any more because it isn't. On the truck forum I read, a member works in an oil co. lab and he was the one who corrected me when I posted that Amsoil was still a Group IV PAO oil. He also told us many times we were wasting our money buying "synthetic" because he has access to the oil testing. He used Group II Pennzoil or Havoline in his truck and ran it 7500 miles testing it along the way. I think PUC is the smartest oil purchaser. The proof is in the pudding. If you can get a minimum of 225k miles out of your old $1200 bike using cheap oil, why not.
  18. There is the option of taking them to small claims court after they finally pay off the loan to get your payments back.
  19. Yeah, I would replace cracked tires. The original tires that came on my 85ZN700 were not cracked when I bought the bike in 2009 with 1k miles on it. I kept the tires thinking I might put them on ebay. Somebody who wants a collector bike with OE tires may want them. I put about 300 miles on them before replacing them. They look like new except for just a tiny bit of wear. This bike was stored in WI so maybe the cold weather helped preserve them.
  20. There are two walmarts in wilmington nc. The one close to me is not always stocked that well. The other one is larger and really well stocked. I'm not sure what the difference is, whether it's lack of managment or the one is not making enough money and they are trying to keep less stock on hand.
  21. I like the self checkout. I don't want nobody doing nuttin for me.
  22. Be careful, I understand the wildlife folks are like nazis in you state.
  23. Only use oil that meets the JASO MA specification. It is for motorcycles with wet clutches. Rotella meets that spec. Choose the correct viscosity and the proper spec as stated.
  24. As you know the 86 has several improvements such as much better brakes and a transmission that doesn't lose 2nd gear. And if you like the extra luggage capacity, that's a plus. Maybe buy flying fool's 88 bike. It will be ready to ride instead of getting another project.
