I checked ebay and amazon and did not see Visteons. Yes, they manufacture the Motorcraft cops and many F150 guys have bought them on ebay much cheaper than the Motorcraft cops.

There are some 96 Venture starters on ebay. Are they the 4 brush starters too?

The Visteons are the ones recommended on the f150online site. They are supposed to be the same as Motorcraft and are much cheaper and supposedly available on ebay. I also saw a recommendation for Araparts. Check rockauto.

Isn't it recommended to remove the drive shaft and grease both ends at this point?

Go to f150online.com for recommendations on cops. They recommend Motorcraft or there is an equivalent from the same vendor that makes Motorcraft that is cheaper sold on ebay. They bad mouth all other brands.

Fork boots are not necessary but they are nice to have. They keep dirt off the upper tube that slides into the seal in the lower tube. Most bikes don't have them. They will probably keep the upper tubes from rusting with age.

I agree with Venturous. That is too much bike for a beginner. It's asking for trouble. Better to start with a 250cc.

And of course look at the choke plates to make sure they are not sticking.

You might want to consider putting some seafoam or Gumout with Regane on the label in the gas to clean up the carbs a bit.

On to Sequoia National Park tomorrow and then to Yosemite, to San Francisco and flying home. We went on the sissy plan, flying and driving a car!

Would have been great meeting you too! If you drive north on highway 163 just after you cross the AZ UT border there is a road that crosses 163. Turn east and go a few miles. It cost $6 I think for a motorcycle to get in the Navaho controlled park. They have a gift shop and museum and you can go on a tour of Monument Valley. The road is unpaved and rough so we paid for a tour in an SUV ($120). High cost but worth it. This is where John Ford filmed many western movies starring John Wayne. Some people drove their cars on the road but I suspect they dragged the bottom in places. They don't recommend riding a motorcycle on those roads but i suspect a skilled rider would not have a problem and you would avoid the cost of having them give you the tour. We plan to drive to Sequoia National Park and then maybe to Yosemite. At the shop at Monument Valley, my wife recognized a tv and movie star, Justin Chatwin, who with two friends had been traveling all over the country on 3 flat black Harley Sportsters camping along the way. He was nice enough to allow me to take a photo of her with him. So now she is following his twitter comments and photos. When we got to Lake Powell, we saw him again after he got pulled over by the police! I am envious of those 3 riders traveling all over the country camping along the way!! One of the riders was a young lady.

The advice I was given by an experienced rider is to keep the bike in gear and be ready to get out of the way by either turning if you are the front vehicle or riding between the cars ahead if you are behind cars. For that reason stay on the side of the lane at a light especially if you are behind cars.

Cowpuc, I was in Jerome, AZ Saturday and I was looking around for an 83 Yamaha Venture with lots of stickers on it! I'm on vacation and not on my bike unfortunately. We flew to Phoenix, drove to Jerome and then to Monument Valley. Monument Valley is awesome! Now, we are in Las Vegas and plan to go to Sequoia National Park in CA next. Okay, I profess my ignorance! I thought turning the pilot screws in leaned out the idle mixture. A friend just told me the opposite. I thought it was the same as most car carbs with the exception of a Holley 4 barrel carb. Anyway, can someone please educate me and save me from my ignorance. Does turning the pilot screws in closer to the seat lean the mix or richen it? Thanks! The shop manual doesn't say how to adjust this because it comes preset and sealed.

Well my newly acquired 89VR is running rich judging by the way it starts without choke and the smell of gasoline. It seems to run just fine. I checked the choke and it doesn't appear to be sticking. Then I pulled the side panels off and checked the two rear carbs pilot screw adjustment. Both are 1 full turn from bottom which should be too lean. Ideas?

Is the 2nd gen starter a bolt in? Or does is have to be modified in some way? Do all Gen 1s have the 2 brush starter? Thanks!

I got my new to me 89VR registered last week but was so busy I didn't get a chance to ride it until today. I'm really impressed with how easy it is to handle. It seems very comfortable. Might need some more foot pegs so I can stretch out my legs a little, especially my right leg. I really like it!!! I love the sound of that V4! I think it is just as easy to handle as the 2006 Wing I test rode a few years ago. I've got to check the choke and adjust the pilot screws though. It's running really rich. It starts instantly without choke in 70 degree weather. It also turns over very slowly especially when warm (but always starts). I think a new battery is in order.

Could it be counterfeit Dunlops? The Chinese have been know to counterfeit almost everything else!

Puc, that tire is one size too small isn't it? I know it is for my 89.

What is the trans code on the sticker that is in the door jam?
