WOW, that is sad:95:,,, my heart, thoughts and PRAYERS UP go out to Z and his family!!! I am soooo glad that they are all ok and deeply sorry about the loss of their pets.. Looking at those scoots though I gotta say, I have seen a LOT worse in actual damage to them. Have seen bikes that burned to the point of aluminum melted down.. I really wonder if, with a lot of elbow grease and replacing some unsalvagable parts those both could be runners again. Looking at the fairings and windshields it doesnt look like a lot of melting took place, good indicator that the wiring and such is still ok, possibly. We had a house fire years ago and found out after the fact that our Home Owners Insurance did not cover vehicle loss. I had no Comprehensive Insurance on the vehicles we had back then and ended up taking a loss on them. It might not be a bad idea to find out all about that BEFORE letting the bike(s) go to a bone yard.. If Z ends up keeping them and making them go again, I would be happy to donate any spare parts I have to help get his scoot back on the road.. What a horrible thing to have had happen.. Praying for you all of you Z!!

:scared:WOW ZZZZZZ WOW WOW WOW is that PURDY Orlin !!!! I love "baggers" and LOVE what you got going there my friend!! BEAUTIFUL job brother!!:clap2::dancefool: Cant wait to see it IRL!! Wanna hear something crazy about baggers? Couple years ago I was in our local Harley shop and noticed a new "Street Glide" (bagger) setting next to an Electra Glide Classic (Dresser). Same bike minus the tour pac for the exact same price. Went to the parts counter and had the parts guy look up cost for the tour pac - 2600 bucks for complete set up. I then asked the salesman how they could get the same dollar out of a bike by taking parts OFF it. Guy looked at me and said the Street Glide (bagger, the one with OUT the extra parts) outsold the Dresser ten to 1:confused24:!!! I looked at the salesman and said, but dont people know those parts come off:confused24: and who wouldnt want 2600 dollars in free parts that could be added on if needed? The salesman did the old and said,, most people dont think like that ...

Watched a number of them come and go in the last year for $2000,, $2500ish on the high end Lug.. FYI, I believe those scoots were the detuned model of the V-4 - smaller carbs and all that.. Yamaha didnt spark em back up in horsepower till the later model years of that style (think a quick check in our history section would reveal exactly when that happened). Also not sure about the motor still having a balance shaft - seems like I heard that Mom Yam dropped the balance shafting for those early models, if thats so I wouldnt be surprised that red line has also been reduced..

Wish I was younger and had the spunk I used to have,, doing that last Poll gave me an idea of something I would LOVE to do.. Back a few centuries ago and in another life I LOVED building Chops,, it was soooo much fun.. A new pastime I am discovering is the fun of polling our club members,, I LOVE you lop eared bunch of gearheaded varmints - viewing your perspectives of what works and doesn't work for flipping your trigger just makes me .. I was just sitting here thinking (yep,, even a Puc does have that happen once in a while ) how much fun it would be to build a bottoms up ground pounding full bore custom with each main part of the build being voted on by all our club members before it is chosen for placement on the scoot... Cant help but imagine what such a critter on two wheels would look like by the time we got finished with it........ You ever wonder how Tip has put up with me allllll these years Sometimes?

The Bossman just picked up a GORGEOUS "new" scoot - WOW ZZZZ WOW WOW WOW is it PURDY!! (see this link if you haven't seen Don's new bike yet - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?118738-Well-I-guess-I-m-no-longer-bike-less ).. Some of us think the really cool White Wall tires on that purdy Black 2nd Gen are,, well,, REALLY COOL.. Others,,, not so much.. In an effort to genuinely welcome Freebird's bike to her new home I thought it would be befitting to have a club poll and see who likes those pretty White Walls and who does not.. I am soooo hearing that brother! Went from working in the Blue Berries as a kid here in Michigan to a genuine job pumping gas at Sunoco Gas Station.. It was the mid/late 60's and muscle cars were everywhere.. I loved cranking the dial over to "260" to fill those big block Mopars, Chevy's and Fords sitting there idling lumpely with my nose sucking up the succulent odors of unburned high octane fuel being wasted because of valve overlap in those cammed up beauties.. What an amazing era to be a young gearheaded kid filling my pockets from a good paying job (1.60 an hour) and full of dreams of a new motorcycle and maybe even buying a girl a little something special:scratchchin:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, bike needs takin care of first of course:178: .

Picked up a 1996 Star Royal for a steel
cowpuc replied to mbova's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sure sounds like a stuck solenoid. The only thing having the kill switch engaged and/or key switch off will do when this happens is keep the engine from actually starting with the starter still engaged.. Was the starter still rolling when it fired up and you had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop or were you touching the start button to make the starter engage? I have no idea where the solenoid is located on an RSTD but if you follow the cable coming off your starter it should terminate at the solenoid. Then there should be another cable coming off the solenoid that leads directly to the battery. The solenoid has a set of contacts inside it that are pulled together when voltage is supplied to its coils - that energizes the coil which closes the contacts when the start button is pushed.. If you disconnect the small wire leading to the solenoid and leave the two cables (one to the starter and one to the battery) connected with out the small wire(s) connected and you touch the lead onto the battery and it still does it you will know it is the solenoid is stuck.. -

Got a new (new to me) 86 Royale
cowpuc replied to audio_mekanik's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Agree with VideoAZ! High speed miss: Another thing to try is, remove the side covers, drape a towel over the headlight , start the bike in total darkness and look carefully at the plug wires you should see no leakage.. Check plug caps for high ohms. Make sure you gap your new plugs - .032. Also check carb slides for non-sticky smooth movement, diaphrams for pin holes and sync the carbs. Also check your battery and charging system which it sounds like you did. I would also drain fuel from the carb bowls into a clean glass jar and check for water in fuel - can also compare amount of fuel in each bowl by doing so (four baby food jars work perfect for this), if you have a float set to low you will find it this way. If you find debris in your fuel you can go to an ag store and pick up a 50cc syringe - fill the syringe with carb cleaner and fill the carb until thru the drain hose until the carb cleaner comes out the mainjet (its the hole where the metering rod on the slide goes in). Now pump the syringe to agitate the carb cleaner in the carb bowl. Suck it back out and close the drain. To check the tank for debris/moisture you can remove the seat and remove the fuel gauge sending unit and clearly see in the tank with a pen light. -
