    Barn find

The fuel tank is plastic so you don't have to worry about rust. Critters have been known to build nest in the air filter. Replacing the air filter on a GL1800 Goldwing is not an easy task. You have to remove the entire dash and shelter. Then you work your way down to the airbox. Take plenty of photos as you take it apart. They will come in handy as you put it back together. It would be a good idea to put screens over the airbox tubes to prevent critters from getting in. A Honda manual would be very helpful if you decide to tackle the air filter. It will help you with the electrical connections that you have to disconnect. Some are quite tricky in the manner in which they come apart. First time I changed the air filter on my 07 Goldwing it took about three hours. Good luck and have fun on your new bike.
  10. Don't let Donald know about her.
  11. If you plan on spending the night in Maggie Valley, the Maggie Valley Inn & Conference Center caters to motorcycles. They have covered parking for your bike. Nice tiki bar by the pool and entertainment. Excellent restaurant. We did the BRP last year from the southern end all the way to the north end. All 469 miles. The area you will be riding from Cherokee to Asheville is very scenic. Speed limits are 35 and 45 mph on the entire BRP and sometimes slower because of traffic. Have a safe and enjoyable trip.
  12. Congratulations on your first grandchild. They are a lot more fun than your own kids.
  13. Your tongue weight should be 10% to 15% percent of your gross trailer weight. I haul my 07 Goldwing on an Aluma MC10 trailer. My trailer weighs 380 lbs. and the wing is about 930 lbs. My tongue weight is about 190 lbs. The trailer pulls nice and straight even at interstate speeds.
  14. May all of you have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.
  15. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Prayers also that all your travels will be safe.
  16. We have ridden the Cherohala Skyway and stayed in Tellico Plains. The skyway was a beautiful ride. Have also ridden the Dragon, the Moonshiner 28 and the Rattler 209. We plan on stopping quite often and exploring numerous small towns. We have Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Mount Airy and other sites we will be stopping at. We have a full week so we should not have to rush at all.
  17. My wife and I and her sister and husband are leaving Sat. for Gatlinburg, Tn. Spending Sat. night and then on to the Blue Ridge Parkway on Sunday. Riding it all the way from the south end to the north end. May ride Skyline Drive if we have time and the weather is good.
  18. You can take the man off the Harley but you can't take the Harley off the man.
  19. Don, I will be there Friday but will not make it on Saturday.
  20. We did the Cherohala Skyway on one of the trips down south. It is a very scenic route with a waterfall towards the westend by Tellico Plains. As others have mentioned the Dragon is not as bad as the videos make it out to be if you ride like you have some sense. Weekday mornings are less crowded than the weekends on the Dragon. Enjoy your trip, you can't go wrong with any of the routes you have mentioned.
