Basic bicycle watter bottle holder with adjust able strap.. many here on the site have one. See attached photo of mine mounted next to the am/fm/cb radio... LOL Dan With 58k on the bike already I dont think I am having a problem being to busy at all my friend.. I dont have much more room for anything else unless I add another dash bar like Redneck has done. I really need a tach, and a 9" Sony TV screen, bluetooth hook up and........??? Guest tx2sturgis Posted August 25, 2008 Share #10 Posted August 25, 2008 (edited) Pick, The condensation from the cold drink that runs down on the inside of the coozie can not get out per-say and "could"... and I strongly say "COULD"...build up time and time again with use and the water "could" get up under the gas cap flap and run down into the gas cap key mechanism and cause possible rust and key failure. I know many here have used nothing but the foam coozie's over thier gas cap lock and have never ever had a problem. Like I said..it could happen.. This is just my opinon, and my therory for not using the foam coozie cover is I do not want to be out on the road miles from home when I find out the key does fail and I can not get the gas cap off.. Now again, I am sure those who do not think this will ever happen will chime in, but I am only sharing an opinon, which is not based on anything but pure speculation of what possibly COULD happen, but may never happen.. the rocket buisness coming out in me...sorry.. we must review all options to look for anything that "possibly could go wrong"...all the time.. WOW!! I must say, of ALL the things to worry about, I would put that one somewhere near the VERY bottom, even below worrying about space alien attack, psuedo random neutrino infestations, and the plight of the Arkansas River Shiner. Seriously. The lock components are NOT made of ferrous metal, meaning, rust is unlikely. And, on a moving motorcycle, with the wind blowing around the can and coozie, condensation is not likely to build up for very long, plus anything cold wont stay that way for very long...well....unless its already cold outside! Also, the seal at the bottom is not good enough to hold a 1 inch puddle of water long enough that it could creep inside the lock opening and do damage. Now maybe....just MAYBE...IF you left the bike outside in a heavy rainstorm, and IF the water pooled in that coozie, somehow creeping past the flap, the lock, and the internal seals, then maybe...and I say MAYBE! you could end up with some water in your fuel. OK..folks...back to worryin about the Spotted Owl. ADDED LATER: Apologies to anyone who is extra careful about things like this. I just see the whole lifestyle of motorcycling as a very risky activity. Worrying about fuel cap locks is just not something I do. And since the statement was made: "Now again, I am sure those who do not think this will ever happen will chime in" I thought I'd chime in! I will hold almost everysize, including my coffee mug with handle. this one could be mounted to the passenger grab rails also and it will swivel out of the way of the saddlebag lids when you need to open them. No its not cheap, but the one on my Ultra, has seen 74,000 miles, and previously it was mounted on my Dyna, for 20,000 miles...these things are made to last! As you can see there are many different variations of cup holders liked by the members here. I used the one ECK has on my 1st GEN and really liked it on the other hand the one I have now is pretty good and serves me well. You can get a cup holder to suite your needs and type of cup you want to use from $5.00 to $100.00. I like the clean look of my RSTD handlebars and think putting a water bottle on the saddlebag guards would work OK and let the passenger take a sip too. Will it interfere with the passengers' feet? It's a water bottle holder from Walmart and her husband made the bracket. Cost around $5.00 I ended going to the boat section at Cabella's and got a swivel mount bracket that stays level. It clamps onto the grab rails. You have to be careful which options you go with. If it doesn't swivel or doesn't sit high enough, you can't get your side trunk open. Cost of mine $12.00 and works great. It's also adjustable for larger or smaller drinks. I can't remember the name of it, but they only carry 2 brands, and they guy said they have a lot of bikers use it. The vast majority of stuff I have added onto my bike is stuff that I have picked up on the side of the road... I am currently working my way up to building a bike out of pieces and parts I have found.... Getting close!!!! On the other hand (quite literally) my '06 came to me with two of the bicycle bottle carriers mounted on the handlebars - one on each side, of course. Brenda and I have discovered that it is quite simple for me to lean forward while she reaches up and gets her drink. Ditto when she's ready to replace it. Doesn't bother me to do it for her and she's happy with it. Captain Kanagroo taught me, "Simple pictures are the best." (Anybody else here remember that book he read to us?) One other note with apologies for waxing philosophical (I AM a Baptist preacher, you know). Brenda and I were pleasantly blown away by the number of couples on motorcycles this summer. I think it wonderful that husbands and wifes are getting out and riding together! Funny thing is, the guy I bought my Venture from sold the bike because his wife wanted to ride with him all the time. He never had headsets for the intercom and even had the connectors taped shut. Hmmm. Wonder why?
